MTRCB acts on ‘Willing Willie’ child abuse case Tuesday, March 29, 2011 MANILA – The Movie and Television

Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has referred the child abuse case hurled at “Willing Willie” host Willie Revillame to its Hearing and Adjudication Committee (HAC). Since the MTRCB is acting on numerous complaints, the case has been directed to the HAC for “appropriate disposition.” The complaint against Revillame stemmed from the March 12 episode of the show aired over TV5 where a sixyear-old boy contestant was shown dancing impersonating the body movements of a macho dancer. MTRCB chairperson Grace Poe Llamanzares said in a press statement this new case leveled at Revillame is “in accordance with the Board’s duty to enforce the Constitutional mandate that the Senate shall defend the rights of children from all forms of neglect, abuse, cruelty, exploitation and other conditions prejudicial to their development.” Llamanzares reminded other networks who employ children to take extra steps to ensure that their rights are fully protected against any form of abuse. “The Board further emphasizes that whenever children are featured in television programs, producers are abuse and emotional maltreatment’ and ‘any act by deeds and words which debases, degrades or demeans the intrinsic worth and dignity of the child,” she said.
