We hope that the time of your engagement has been filled with joy! In order to help you and your fiancé strengthen your relationship as you look toward to your new life together, the Office of Faith Formation of the Diocese of Brooklyn provides a marriage preparation program known as Pre-Cana. The program's name is taken from the Gospel story in which Jesus joins in the sacred celebration of a wedding feast in Cana. By turning water into wine for the wedding guests, Jesus stressed both the celebratory and transformative nature of marriage. Our Pre-Cana program focuses on these aspects of married life. By meeting with other engaged couples in a group setting facilitated by a husband and wife team, you and your future spouse will be able to learn about the many joys and challenges married couples share on a daily basis. The Pre-Cana sessions provide both of you with important opportunities to learn about communication skills, conflict resolution, decision making, family planning, and how to deepen your own spiritual lives both as individuals and as a couple. There is a variety of scheduling options for your participation in the Pre Cana program. Some meet on weekends, some meet once a week during evening hours, while others are retreat-based. May your preparation and the wedding celebration itself launch you both into a grace-filled lifelong commitment!
