October 9, 2012 The Honorable Jorge Perez, President Board of Aldermen City of New Haven 165 Church Street New Haven, CT 06510 Re: Disposition of 580 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven, Connecticut Dear Alderman Perez,
I respectfully submit for communication the proposed sale of that property known as 580 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven, Connecticut, which was formerly the site of Martin Luther King, Jr. School (the “Property”) to Elm City College Preparatory, Inc. (“Elm City”) for the purpose of developing a new high school. The City of New Haven is proposing to sell the Property for a purchase price of $1,500,000.00. Elm City College Preparatory, Inc. intends to develop a school at the Property to serve as the permanent home for Achievement First Amistad High School. Elm City already operates a number of schools within the City of New Haven and I am confident that the new high school site will prove to be another positive addition to one of New Haven’s most vibrant communities. Accordingly, I would request that the Board of Aldermen act favorably upon this proposal. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Very truly yours, Erik C. Johnson Executive Director Livable City Initiative
