MARITIME MUSEUM OPENS THE HOLIDAY SHIP MODEL EXHIBIT
The Annual Holiday Model Guild Exhibit will open on December 5 and continue through January 27, 2013 at the newly located Channel Islands Maritime Museum overlooking the Channel Islands harbor at 3900 South Harbor Boulevard. The exhibit includes a broad range of hand-crafted ship models: historic sailing ships, warships &
th

workboats reproduced in miniature and built to scale by some of southern California’s leading craftsmen. Not only are the ships realistically represented in miniature, but some of the models have taken as many as five years to build. Ever wonder how that ship got in a bottle? A model maker will be on hand to show you how it’s done! See construction techniques as well as the colorful histories of the ships. There will be model-building demonstrations by the Model Guild members each weekend during the show, 11-4 pm. The opening of this exhibit also provides the opportunity to debut the completion of a significant re-design of the Museum’s permanent Ship Model Gallery, showcasing a collection that now numbers more than eighty models. The collection includes the largest U.S. Museum display collection of rare 18 century bone models created by French prisoners of the British during the Napoleonic Wars, plus nine models representing the life’s work of legendary southern California master modeler Ed Marple. The Channel Islands Maritime Museum is located at 3900 South Harbor Boulevard on Bluefin Circle in Oxnard’s Channel Islands Harbor. It is open 11 to 5 daily. Admission is free with membership; Adults $5, Seniors (62+) $4, Children (6-17) $2. Information: CIMMVC.org and 805-984-6260.
