A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA SPRINGS, NEW YORK

WHEREAS, on December 14, in Newtown, Connecticut, the lives of twenty young school children and six adults were ended by a man armed with semi-automatic weapons and high capacity ammunition magazines, and WHEREAS, next week the Saratoga Springs City Center will host a gun show. Such shows have been regularly featured at the City Center for many years, and exhibitors have offered a wide variety of items for sale to the public, including semi-automatic weapons and high capacity magazines as permitted by law, and WHEREAS, we recognize the constitutional and lawful purchase, sale and ownership of guns according to state and federal law. We must also recognize, however, that the Newtown tragedy, so recent in our memory, has caused profound grief and sorrow across our nation. News of the tragedy has been particularly difficult for young children. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved as follows: 1. This Council respectfully urges all exhibitors at the City Center gun show in January to refrain from exhibiting semi-automatic weapons and high capacity ammunition magazines of the type used in the Newtown tragedy. 2. This Council expresses its thanks and appreciation to all exhibitors who comply with this request.
