A View of Grade Two

Equipping students to impact the world for Christ Do Hard Things

January 7, 2013

Dear Parents, Happy New Year! Thank you for all the great gifts we were able to send to Cebu Children’s Shelter and for your help in wrapping them. Thank you also for the goodies for the Christmas party. The students will be surprised and hopefully pleased to see the desks in a new arrangement with their name on a desk. This means that they will be able to store their things inside the desk for the rest of the year. Language arts - After three weeks off, we'll need to spend some time reviewing our Daily Five routines so that the students can use their time productively reading and writing. We'll be starting our unit on much-loved author and illustrator Jan Brett by talking about her life and exploring some of her books during read-aloud time. We will take some time to look at the “Hard Things” we wrote about in the fall and set some new goals to work on for the second half of the year. Bible - We are beginning a unit on the Christian Life based on the book of James. The memory verse is James 1:19-20. Each night beginning on Tuesday your child will bring home a booklet with a verse at the top of the page that we discussed that day. We will spend some time talking about what it looks like and sounds like at school and at home. Your child’s

homework is to draw a picture with captions OR write a few sentences about what it looks like and sounds like and return the booklet to school the next day. The completed booklet is due on Wednesday, Jan 16 and will be used to help with the final assessment which will be writing a letter to a “friend” who has become a Christian and telling the friend how to live a Christian life. The letter will be written in class on the 17th. Mathematics - We will continue our geometry unit. We’ll start the week off with a special snowman and snowflake project.

My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. James 1:19-20
