so it is difficult if not impossible for disabled people to enter. Supporting facilities like hand rail or guiding blocks are also absent. The ramp should be of 1:12 gradient and 1400mm in width. Suggestion: Provide a ramp at the side with a wider landing and use double swing or automatic sliding door instate. As for particular spaces like toilets and parking lot. (According to Code of Practice on Access for Disabled Persons to Public Buildings (First Revision) and Malaysia Standard 1331) . there are none in the Biotech 3 building. Figure 1: The Main Foyer of Biotech 3 Observations: No ramp for the disabled and the excess door which only swings outwards is closed to the landing.Analysis The current condition Biotech 3 being an old building does not have any facilities for the disabled. but steps. There are no accessible entrances. Further observations and suggestions will be explained below. All the entrances into the building do not have any ramps.

Other than that. Also the doorway should be wider. al least 1000mm wide. so that it faces the hallway for easier excess for disabled people. .Figure 2: Male toilet in Biotech 3 Observation: There are no separate toilets for disabled people and one of the general toilets is as shown in the picture. there are no hand rails available at all. Other than that. instate of a drop into the toilet use a gradient for smooth access for wheelchairs. Suggestions: Change the entrance to the toilet. The entrance of the toilet as seen is narrow and one needs to turn 90˚ degrees immediately to enter the toilet.

Figure 3: Hall way in Biotech 3 Observation: No supporting facilities. Suggestion: Provide guiding blocks and hand rail. like handrail or guiding blocks. .

no through road to this exit. and provide guiding blocks for the blind. Suggestion: At least provide a ramp so that disabled people on wheelchair can exit.Figure 4: Side exit of Biotech 3 Observation: this exit works as a fire escape. No ramp available. .

therefore users with walking disability cannot go up to the other floors. Suggestion: Provide lift for disabled people. .Figure 5: Vertical access (stairs) on Biotech 3 Observation: The only type of vertical access is stairs. Because ramp will take up too much space on site.

. however the ramp is too steep and it is hard for disabled people only wheelchair to go up. Suggestion: Make a proper ramp wit gradient 1:12 and provide proper access to the ramp from the parking/ road.Figure 6: Side exit with ramp Observation: The only exit with ramp. And there is no proper path from the road/ parking to this ramp as can be seen on the picture.

Figure 7: Blok B access from parking Figure 8: Entrance to one of the rooms at Block B of Biotech 3 .

Observation: From Figure 7 it can be seen that there is a proper access that disabled people can use to access the building from the parking. So it means the wheelchair is still unable to access Block A through Block B parking. eventhough the access from the Block B parking is sloped and is easily accessed by disabled. Figure 9: the entrance into Block A from the walkway link from Block B. Other than that. it is still a step from the link from Block B to Block A. However from Figure 8 it can be seen that the rooms are one step higher. Suggestion: It would be better if the accesses to the rooms are gradient instate of a drop. (no ramp) .

Figure 10: The parking of Biotech 3 Observation: Newly drawn parking lots. but no disabled parking provided Suggestion: .
