Baptism of the Lord Sunday

New Sermon Series Begins January 20 Journeying With Jesus from the Manger to the Cross
Weve already started looking at the life of Christ in his birth at Christmas, but in the 10 weeks leading up to Holy Week and Palm Sunday, well be looking at various stops in his ministry along the way, always asking the question of how Jesus presence in the world makes a difference in our lives, and how we are called to follow in his footsteps. Please note: This is different than what we announced last Sunday, but there has been a change in plans based on what we think will be most helpful for our church at this time.

Read the New Testament in 2013

Through the leadership of some of our United Methodist bishops a number of folks throughout the United Methodist Church across the world are making the commitment to read through the New Testament in 2013. We will be reading a single chapter each day, starting with Matthew 1 on January 1. We want to invite all in our church to join in this effort. Take some time later today to catch up by reading the first 6 chapters of Matthew and tomorrow you will be in sync with brothers and sisters throughout the world reading the bible together. We have put a schedule of the readings (with links to the scripture passages) on our web site at www.oldhickoryumc.org/NTPlan . Take just a few minutes each day to focus on your relationship with God, and to better connect to the story of faith.

Our youth group is gearing up to attend the annual Warmth in Winter youth rally sponsored by the Tennessee Annual Conference on January 25-27 at the Embassy Suites Convention Center in Murfreesboro. This is a great event, and given our recent success with our youth lock-in we want to make sure that we support our youth in attending this great experience. Be watching in the days ahead for our youth to announce a special fundraising dinner to help raise the needed funds for this purpose. Also, if you would be willing to sponsor a youth to attend, please talk to Craig Taylor and he can let you know how much it costs to be a sponsor. We are also continuing to need persons to help with our youth program. We especially need women who would be willing to mentor and disciple some of our girls. If you think you might be called to help, please talk to Craig as soon as possible.
