African Americans have played a unique part in American history and how this nation was founded. They have continued to play a role in society and how certain industries have been changed. The first, I would have to say, is the topic of slavery and the abolishment of it. I can only imagine that slaves believed there would never be freedom for them but there were some brave enough to fight for what they believed in and for those who wouldn’t fight for themselves. With help from many people and even whites and political figures, they were freed and this furthered the equality process in our country. Next would be the civil rights movement in America. Even though slavery had been abolished, Black Americans were still not getting equal treatment. There were many people who had enough with sitting idly by as they were being treated this way and decided to take a stand. Through marches, protests, speeches, violence and civil disobedience there was finally a change made. Many bad things had to happen for this change to come but the people understood the risk associated with equality. So now that equality had been gained the sky was the limit on what they could do. Lastly, I would like to mention the Black American influence in music! I mention this because I am a big fan of the Rap genre, specifically Rap music of the 90’s and before. Black Americans influence in Hip Hop, Rap and R&B was what made it what it is. I’m not sure if there would be much of these genres if not for them. This genre has evolved with the times and has influenced the last couple generations. Maybe in good ways, maybe in bad ways, this is not a speculation on good and bad. So I absolutely agree that there has been quite an influence on America from the time of slavery till now. We as people and a nation have learned through the years how we should be to each other and how to live in harmony with different cultures and races. We have struggled to bring this idea to light and have lost many along the way in the cause. What must be understood is that not all of the opposite races were out to enslave or segregate, only the ignorant ones. These people should be educated before they corrupt too many other minds!
