The Miracle of Christmas

Galatians 4:4-5; I Timothy 1:17 Introduction: The greatest miracle of Christmas: The Incarnation--the Word became flesh. Great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh. I Timothy 3:16 Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God. I John 4:2

I. The Time of the Incarnation - Galatians 4:4

But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son. A. God prepared a world. B. God prepared a nation. C. God prepared a family.

II. The Nature of the Incarnation - Galatians 4:4

God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under law. A. Made of a woman He was conceived in the womb of the Virgin Mary by the Holy Spirit, apart from a human father. In order that Christs body might be shown to be a real body, He was born of a woman; in order that His Godhead might be made clear, He was born of a virgin. Thomas Aquinas B.Made under the Law He became subject, like every other man, to the requirements of the law. He fulfilled those requirements. (Matthew 5:17)

III.

The Purpose of the Incarnation - Galatians 4:5

A. To Redeem To redeem those under the law. v. 5 Redeem = to buy back; to repurchase Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. I Timothy 1:15 The Word became flesh to become our Saviour.

B. To Restore 1. The Word became flesh so that those who believed on Him could be conformed to the image/likeness of his Son. Romans 8:29 We were made in His image (Genesis 1:27) but we lost the image in the fall. Through His incarnation we receive spiritual grace to produce the nature of God. His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness. 2 Peter 1:3 2. He wants us to be conformedthat He might be the firstborn among many brothers. God wants to continue His work on earth through us. A Christian is a mind through which Christ thinks, A heart through which Christ loves, A voice through which Christ speaks, A hand through which Christ helps. Guideposts

Conclusion
Has He been born in you? Though Christ a thousand times in Bethlehem be born, If Hes not born in thee, thy soul is still forlorn. Angelus Silesius
