A View of Grade Two
Equipping students to impact the world for Christ Do Hard Things
January 21, 2013
Dear Parents, Today is the start of a new semester. We want to continue to help your child prepare to do their best in school. Beginning this week, we expect the students to copy everything, exactly as written for the homework notebook, no more abbreviations. Your child also needs to be responsible to bring back each day their homework notebook, folder and any homework. Many of the students need to work on IXL at home as well as at school. This does not need to be every night, but at least 2 times a week for 15 minutes will help their math progress. Language arts - This week we will be reading more books by Jan Brett and enjoying their wonderful illustrations. We will be doing our regular Daily Five and getting together in small groups to practice helpful reading strategies. On Wednesday we'll add the word conversation to the academic vocabulary notebooks and celebrate National Handwriting Day. Bible - We begin a new unit on Jesus’ Miracles. We will be dramatizing and recording the various stories. This week we will look at: Miracle at Cana, John 2:1-11; A Soldier’s Faith, Matthew 7:28 - 8:1, 8:5-16; Calming the Storm, Matthew 8:23-27; Healing the Demoniacs, Matthew 8:28-34. You can
help your child be a more active participant by reading and discussing the stories at home. Mathematics - We will be working in small groups on identifying shapes. Other students will be working on IXL and games to practice their math.
