MAD SCIENTIST...

Were mad because were sick and tired of seeing people get sick and hurt. We want to help others learn so, together, we can eradicate these diseases!
Introduction: The Centers for Disease Control in Columbus, OH has just been contacted by Washington, D.C. Reports have been issued stating there has been a large increase in the number of cases of non-communicable diseases across the country. You are a scientist working for the CDC and have been given the task of identifying a

disease, stating the causes, describing the symptoms, and outlining a prescribed course of treatment. As always, illustrations are extremely helpful in getting your information across.
Task: Your job as the Scientist working for the CDC is to research your assigned disease. In order to help your country reduce the number of active cases, you need to be able to identify the symptoms of the disease, the cause of the disease, describe the effects the disease has on the body and state the course of treatment. After you diagnose your disease you need to present your findings to the Executive Board at the CDC. They will use your information to improve the health of the American people. Procedure:
1. You will work individually on this project. 2. Each individual will be assigned a non-communicable disease. 3. Using the resources below, you will answer the following questions: 4. Slide 1: Name of the disease and your names. 5. Slide 2: What are the risk behaviors for the disease? 6. Slide 3: What are the effects/symptoms of your disease? 7. Slide 4: What is the recommended treatment for your disease? 8. Slide 5: What are prevention tips? 9. Slide 6: Please include a list of your works cited. 10. You will present your findings in a 5 part media project (Ex. : one slide for each question, including

works cited).
11. Your project will include appropriate graphics, readability, and all required information. 12. Each person will also turn in (2) 3X5 cards with your disease and name printed at the top and your

names and G/P/D at the bottom.

13. Card 1: List risk behaviors/symptoms of your disease. 14. Card 2: List treatments and prevention for your disease. 15. Students will take notes using the Non-Communicable Disease worksheet during each presentation.
