SE MA STEM Education Regional Meeting
Increasing interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) st Preparing Students to Live and Work in the 21 Century

I attended the SE MA STEM meeting at Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School on Feb. 5, 2013. There were about 50 people in attendance from the Cape and Islands. Dr. Robert Cody, Dean of Science, Technology, Math and Business at Cape Cod Community College (CCCC) gave a talk about the STEM activities at the college and discussed how they could help the community with STEM activities. Following the talk, we broke into 6 groups and discussed the MA STEM goals which are listed below.

Increase K-12 student interest in STEM Majors: Agriculture & Natural Resources – Architecture - Biological & Biomedical Sciences - Computer & Information Science Engineering& Engineering Technology/Technicians - Health Professions & Clinical Sciences - Mathematics & Statistics - Physical Sciences- Other STEM Majors – precision production, military technology, mechanic/repair technician. 2. Increase STEM achievement of Pre-K-12 students 3. Increase %of students who demonstrate readiness for college-level study in STEM fields 4. Increase number of students who graduate from a post-secondary institution with degree in a STEM field 5. Increase STEM classes led by effective educators (PreK-16) 6. Align STEM Education Programs with Workforce Needs This was one of four regional meeting being held before the annual meeting in May 2013.
