The number of slave states was more that the number of free sates. Three important events were happened in that time which could greatly influenced the condition of slavery. The first event was

They thought that more slaves states would increase the power of slaves states as they became majority in number. Sanford decision which illustrated Missouri compromise unconstitutional. But it couldn’t satisfy the north in a full extent. . Slavery should not be permitted into new states was the argument among them (timeline. The second event was that Kansas -Nebraska Act.compromise of 1850 which took place between the north and the south in 1850. By this act the territory into Kansas and Nebraska territories was shaped illustrating that there slavery would be identified by sovereignty. The last important event that took place in that time was Dred Scott vs. More new slave sates were added into territory which made the north angrier as they were strongly against the slavery. According to this decision demolishing slavery is not possible in United States. By this both north and south agreed with an agreement. 2011).
