HARVEST BAPTIST CHURCH PRAYER DIARY — SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE TIMES 9:00 & 10:45A.M.

MONDAY—EVANGELISTIC PRAYER Chronological Bible Reading: Leviticus 13-15; Matthew 25:24-46 Monday, February 11 Exodus 34:20 But the firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb: and if thou redeem him not, then shalt thou break his neck. All the firstborn of thy sons thou shalt redeem. And none shall appear before me empty. Heavenly Father, Master and Redeemer: Every firstborn was yours, but since the ass was an unclean animal it could not be presented for sacrifice. What then? Should he be allowed to go free from the law? No. The life is what is required, but God will not accept it. There is no way of escape except by redemption. The creature can only be saved by substitution—by putting an innocent lamb in his place. If not redeemed like this, he has to die. O My Father! Does __________ or __________ know the ass is a biblical type (a picture) of a person lost just like them? And they must die an eternal death if they do not accept the sacrifice of the Lamb of God on their behalf. Here is a lesson. I was the unclean animal. I am rightly the property of the God who created me. But I was so sinful God would not, God could not accept me. It has come to this. The Lamb of God must stand in my place or else I die forever. Let all the world know my gratitude to the spotless Lamb of God who bled and died for me, and redeemed me from the curse of the law. Which should die; the ass or the lamb? Should I not pause and compare? The value of a soul is worth less than the life of the Son—and yet the Lamb dies and man-the-ass is spared. O God, I admire your boundless holy love in this! I am a worm, bought with the blood of the Highest. Dust and ashes redeemed with gold. What doom had been mine if a redemption price had not been found. Save __________ likewise from the wrath to come! Do it for Jesus’ sake and to honor his death. Amen. A DAILY PATTERN FOR PRAYER & BIBLE READING Chronological Bible Reading: Leviticus 22-24; Matthew 27:1-22 Thursday, February 14 † Rom. 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. And there was by Saint John baptized, all righteousness fulfilling; The eye of sense alone is dim, and nothing sees but water; Faith sees Christ Jesus, and in Him the Lamb ordained for slaughter; He is the true Baptizer. In tender manhood Jesus straight to holy Jordan wendeth; The Holy Ghost from Heaven’s gate in dovelike shape descendeth; That thus the truth be not denied, nor should our faith e’er waver, That the Three Persons all preside, at baptism’s holy laver, And dwell with the believer. Thus Jesus His disciples sent: Go teach ye every nation, That lost in sin they must repent; and flee from condemnation: He that believes and is baptized, obtains a mighty blessing; A new-born man, no more he dies, eternal life possessing, A joyful heir of Heaven. —Martin Luther, 1541 TUESDAY—FOCUS ON CHRIST’S LIFE Chronological Bible Reading: Leviticus 16-18; Matthew 26:1-37 Tuesday, February 12 Luke 10:1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. O Lord Jesus: At your first coming you sent seventy disciples out to prepare the way in front of you. Allow today that the pastors, ministers and missionaries of Harvest church would likewise be used to so prepare and make ready your way. Give them your grace to be able to turn the hearts of the disobedient toward wisdom as they counsel today. In that way, at the rapture of the church, where you carry us away to the judgment seat of Christ, we will be found acceptable in your sight. Prepare me to live and reign with the Father and Holy Spirit forever. You gave your only-begotten Son to take my nature upon himself. Grant that since I have likewise taken his nature on me by salvation, I might have daily grace, renewed by your Holy Spirit, through the same Lord Jesus Christ who lives and reigns with you forever. You pour-out on me the new light of your Word. Allow the same light that kindles in my heart to shine forth through my life, not just enlightening others, but setting them alight by the gospel! Raise up, I pray, your power, and come among us and upon us with great might in revival. Through my own sins and wickedness I am severely hampered in running the race. Give me your bountiful grace and mercy to help and deliver me so I can speed with your purposes in this life. Father, I ask it all through Jesus Christ my Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, Jude 1:25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and for ever. Amen. FRIDAY— CORPORATE PRAYER MINISTRY Chronological Bible Reading: Leviticus 25-27; Matthew 27:23-44 Friday, February 15 Prov. 4:4,21 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. Holy God and Righteous Lord: Teach us to really love your word like Job did (Job 23:12), and like Jeremiah did (Jer. 15:16). Then, our reading and our study will become a labor of love, and a joy we look forward to with delight. Psa. 119:96-97 I have seen an end of all perfection: but thy commandment is exceeding broad. O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. We plead with you to give us patience to study as well as to read; to meditate as well as to scan, and to openly contemplate throughout the day. Lord, help us take our Bible with us at all times in our hearts, and not leave it in our drawer after devotions. Give us responsive hearts. Make us willing to pay any price necessary to be saturated with your words. Jesus is so worth it! Come Holy Spirit, breathe light into our thoughts and life into our speech as we meditate and pray over your word. Thank you, Father for the unspeakable gift of the Lord Jesus. All the unknown joys he gives were bought with agonies immeasurable. How can we praise you enough for sending the Lord Jesus, who became a man of sorrows so we could know fullness of joy? We bow down in grateful adoration before you, Lord Jesus; before you who bowed so low you lifted us up to be with you forever. What are our shallow griefs compared to your infinite sorrows? You are chief among ten thousand to our souls. Teach us to live under the shadow of your cross as we walk through this life today. Our great Savior, these things we pray to your honor and glory, for the joy of your soul and the accomplishment of your mission by us. Amen. WEDNESDAY—REVIVAL PRAYING Chronological Bible Reading: Leviticus 19-21; Matthew 26:38-75 Wednesday, February 13 2 Cor. 1:11 Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf. O Dear God: Since you give me power to bless people by my prayers, then do not let me scrimp the supplication and so cramp the blessing! What is it that I want the most? In one word it is the Holy Ghost. Let the Holy Spirit be given to my spouse, and they will fulfill their role as a mate. Let the Holy Spirit be given to my child, and they will develop a tender conscience. Let the Holy Spirit be given in my job, and I will find favor with my employer. Let the Holy Spirit be given to my church, and we will have a desire to follow Christ, a hunger for your word, and a love for the lost to save them and for the saved to disciple them. I will find the Savior and become a useful servant! I pray the Holy Spirit will visit us in more fullness so divine blessings we cannot attain for ourselves will attend our services. Let us see souls saved, Make worship be prominent. Make strife stop. The hearing of the preaching is the vehicle, but the power lies in the Spirit of God! I can never go wrong with the Holy Ghost. You keep me right and lead me into all truth. And if you will send your Spirit out among the congregation, then the right preachers and faithful ministers will rise. The leaders of leaders will emerge. Since the Spirit of God is the might of the church, he speaks with power in us so he can communicate power through us. He is the Spirit of holiness. He leads us to obedience. He purges from sin and creates the image of God in me. His presence is revival itself, so for this thing I pray. Grant unity, because if the Spirit is in us and abounds, we shall not be easily divided or discouraged. We plead this in prayer for Jesus’ sake. Amen. SATURDAY—IN THE PSALMS Chronological Bible Reading: Numbers 1-3; Matthew 27:45-66 Saturday, February 16 Psa. 119:33 Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end. Lord Whom I Love and Long For: This section of Psalm 119 is made of a prayer and a plea. It teaches me the keys to prayer, because a desperate dependence and sense of extreme need are woven into the tapestry of this text. The previous eight verses shudder with a sense of sin, quiver with a feeling of weakness, and tremble with a childlike admission of folly. They cause the man of God to cry out for the only help by which any soul can be rescued from falling into sin. So do I! I long to have you Lord, for my teacher. My heart will not intuitively grasp what it needs to know, and it will not learn from a less-effective instructor. A great sense of slowness to learn drives me to seek a great teacher. I thank you Lord, that my very desire to learn your way so well is in itself an assurance you will teach me. If you make me long to learn the marrow of your word, surely you will satisfy my desire. This I need so badly, for only those who are taught of God never forget their lessons. When divine grace sets me on the high way and right path, then I will stay true to it. When I give up the grace of faith for flights of fancy, I am left to my own devices, because mere human intelligence has no enduring influence. Perfect my holiness in the fear of God as I progressively comprehend your promises (2 Cor. 7:1)! If I begin in God, stay with God, and live by God, I will endure faithful to the end. But those who start without the Lord and do not continue in the word get deflected and stray from true spirituality. I want to drink-in divine instruction so I can keep my integrity, walk uprightly, and be godly in Christ Jesus. Amen.

TO Jordan came our Lord the Christ, to do God’s pleasure willing,

INSTRUCTIONS:

Baptists tend to ridicule liturgical churches that use "prepared prayers" because they lack spontaneity. But for many Baptists, their prayers are so predictable they are no more spontaneous than written-out prayers. The result is we end up praying the same things over and over. This daily Prayer Diary will prompt you on a wide range of prayer requests you might not normally think of, while forcing you to articulate a deeper devotion to God. We have included a daily Bible reading schedule. This plan will take you through the Bible chronologically in a year. Do not read ahead and do not try to catch up. Use each day as it comes. Then you can know that on any given day, dozens of other people are lifting their hearts in the same mind to God. Pray what is written, but use what is prayed as a springboard for your own relationship with God. You learn to pray by praying. —Alan

GIVE GOD THE FIRST PART OF EVERY DAY. The first commitment is to a daily quiet time with God. Our weekly Prayer Diary provides a template for daily devotions. 2) TITHE—WORK 1 Cor 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. GIVE GOD THE FIRST DIME OF EVERY DOLLAR—no questions asked. Ten percent is a miniscule amount in our affluent society, but it must come off the top in order to show that God is our priority. We want the blessing of the firstfruits (first devotion, first dime and first day) to flow out to the rest of our resources. 3) TEAM—WORD Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. GIVE GOD THE FIRST DAY OF EVERY WEEK. You should fellowship with a group of believers around the word of God every Sunday in our church.

Secret prayer is the secret of prayer, the soul of prayer, the seal of prayer, the strength of prayer. If you do not pray alone you do not pray at all. Our Lord Jesus Christ would go nowhere till He had prayed. He would attempt nothing till He had prayed. “Oh,” says one, “I live in the spirit of prayer, and therefore I do not need times and seasons for prayer.” And do you think that Christ did not live in the spirit of prayer? Yet He had to have his special time and place to pray. Do not fall under the injurious notion that because your spirit cries to God in prayer all day long, therefore there must not be some season for more immediately coming into God’s presence. If you imagine this, I am afraid that it will prove a snare to your feet. The Lord Jesus Christ, who knew better than you do that the main thing is the spirit of prayer rather than the act of prayer, yet Himself retired into desert places to maintain the act and exercise of prayer. Be spiritual. Be baptized into the spirit of prayer. But do not be deceived by the enemy, who can steal a spirit away while we dream that we only spiritualize it. We had better preserve the very bones of prayer—the posture, the time, place—rather than let it all ooze away into an impalpable mental condition. God keep us prayerful. He will do so if He makes us like His dear Son. Charles H. Spurgeon, 1834-92
