1. Visie en missie
Visie Stellenberg is die eerste keuse rugbyskool vir leerders in die Noordelike voorstede. Missie Stellenberg moet teen 2014 die top rugbyskool in die Noordelike voorstede wees en in die Premier A-liga meeding. Stellenberg rugby moet: • Aantal spelers (basis) en spanne vermeerder • Kwaliteit afrigters en spanbestuurders kweek en/of werf • Kompeterend teen alle skole in alle ouderdomsgroepe wees • Aantreklike rugby van goeie gehalte speel • Deur die spel ‘n trots vir die skool en gemeenskap kweek

2. Doelwitte

Springbokke In 2000 verteenwoordig Carel van der Merwe die Springbokke op hul Europese toer – speel 4 wedstryde Suid-Afrika (Juniors) Enwill Alexander (vleuel) verteenwoordig in 2002 die SA skolespan en later ook die SA O/19 span wat die Junior Wêreldbeker wen. Drie spelers is al verkies tot die SA Akademiespan, naamlik. Dylan Maree, Jaco Venter en Phillip van der Merwe Provinsiaal (Skole) 2006: WP O/19: JC Kritzinger 2007: WP O/19 Kieran James, WP O/16 Rowan Smallbones en Ryan Bartus (O/16) 2008: WP Akademie: Ryan Bartus, Anton Duvenhage (Kaptein) 2012: WP O/16 Tiaan Swanepoel Tiaan teken 29 punte aan tydens die Grant Khomo toernooi. Hy slaag met ‘n strafdoel van 55 meter in die laaste minuut van die wedstryd teen die Goue Leeus om sodoende die WP in die wedstryd te laat seëvier. Coaches Coaches should: • Recognise the importance of fun and enjoyment when coaching young players. Most learning is achieved through “doing”. • Appreciate the needs of the players before the needs of the sport. Be a positive role model - think what this implies. • Keep winning and losing in perspective - encourage young players to behave with dignity in all circumstances. • Respect all referees and the decisions they make (remember it could be you refereeing next week) and ensure that the players recognise that they must do the same. • Provide positive verbal feedback in a constructive and encouraging manner, to all young players both during coaching sessions and games. Coaches of young players must: • Provide experiences which are matched to the young players age and ability, as well as their physical and mental development • Ensure all youngsters are coached in a safe environment - is there adequate first aid readily to hand? • Avoid the overplaying of the best players by using a squad system which gives everybody a satisfactory amount of playing time. Never allow a player to train or play when injured. • Ensure good supervision of young players, both on and off the field. Recognise that young players should never be exposed to extremes of heat, cold, or unacceptable risk of Injury. • Develop an awareness of nutrition as part of an overall education in lifestyle management. • Recognise that it is illegal for young players under 18 to drink alcohol. • Ensure that their knowledge and coaching strategies are up to date and in line with WPRFU philosophy.

Match officials
Match officials should: • Recognise the importance of fun and enjoyment when officiating young players. • Provide positive and verbal feedback in a constructive and encouraging manner during games. • Emphasise the spirit of the game. • Appreciate the needs of the young players before the needs of the sport. • Understand the physical, social and psychological development of young players. • Be a positive role model. You set an example and as such comments you make should be positive and supportive. • Look to self-improvement e.g. participation In Mini or 15-a-side Courses. Match officials must: • Recognise that the safety of young players is paramount. • Explain decisions - all young players are still learning. • Always penalise foul play. • Play advantage whenever possible in order to let the game flow. • Show empathy for the age and ability of young players. • Be consistent and objective • Ensure that verbal abuse from players, coaches or spectators is not tolerated and is dealt with by the school/club officials immediately.

Parents
Parents are encouraged to: • Be familiar with the coaching and training programme in order that they ensure that their child is fully involved and the coaches are aware of their availability. • Be familiar with the teaching and coaching methods used by observing the sessions in which your child participates. • Be aware that the school/club has a duty of care and therefore, where appropriate, assist coaches with the supervision of the young players, particularly where numbers are large and there is a need to transport youngsters to away games. • Be involved with school/club activities and share your expertise • Share concerns, if you have them, with school/club officials • Be familiar with the “Good Coach’s Code”. In particular: • Coaches should recognise the importance of fun and enjoyment when coaching young players. • Coaches should keep winning and losing in perspective, encouraging young players to behave with dignity in all circumstances. It is important that parents support coaches in instilling these virtues Parents should: • Remember that young people play rugby for their own enjoyment not that of their parents • Encourage young people to play - do not force them • Focus on the young players’ efforts rather than winning or losing. • Be realistic about the young players’ ability; do not push them towards a level that they are not capable of achieving. • Provide positive verbal feedback both in training and during the game. Remember that persistent, negative messages will adversely affect the players and referee’s performance and attitude

Players
Players are encouraged to: • Recognise and appreciate the efforts made by coaches, parents, match officials and administrators in providing them with the opportunity to play the game and enjoy the rugby environment. • Understand the value of loyalty and commitment to adults and team mates. • Recognise that every young player has a right to expect their involvement in rugby to be safe and free from all types of abuse. • Understand that if an individual or group of young players feel they are not being treated in a manner that is acceptable, then they have a right to tell an adult either at the school/ club or outside the game. Players should: • Play because you want to, not to please coaches or parents. • Remember skill development, fun and enjoyment is the most important parts of the game. • Be attentive at all training/coaching sessions. • Work equally hard for yourself and your team and both will then benefit. • Recognise good play by ALL players on your team and by your opponents. • Be a sportsman - win or lose. • Play to the laws of the game and accept, without question, all the referee’s decisions. • Control your emotions. Verbal or physical abuse of team-mates, opponents or match officials IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. • Treat all players, as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take advantage of any player.

Spectators
Spectators are encouraged to: • Act as positive role models to all young players • Respect the school/club with regard to spectator behaviour. Spectators should: • Remember children play sport for their enjoyment not yours. Acknowledge good individual and team performances of ALL youngsters irrespective of which team they play for. • Respect match official’s decisions. REMEMBER: they are volunteers providing an opportunity for youngsters to play rugby. • Never verbally abuse young players, match officials, fellow spectators or coaches. Such behaviour can create a negative environment for young players and their behaviour will often reflect this. • Acknowledge effort and good performance rather than the “win at all costs” ethic. • Verbally encourage all youngsters in a positive way. If you do want to shout make sure it is “for”, and not “at” the players. • Encourage all youngsters irrespective of their ability - never ridicule any individual player, regardless of the team they play for. Remember – it’s only a game.

6. Reëlings en kleredrag op wedstryddae (tuis en weg)
Leerders: • Alle leerders moet in hul volle winter skooluniform die tuis en weg wedstryde bywoon. • Alle spelers moet bly vir die 1ste span wedstryd. (slegs ‘n verskoning die Vrydag voor die wedstryd by die afrigter / span koördineerder is aanvaarbaar) • Alle spelers moet die 1ste span wedstryd kyk, geklee in hul vol wintersuniform met skoolbaadjie • Daar word van spelers verwag om amptelike rugby sportdrag vir wedstryde aan te skaf (trui, broekie, sokkies, sportsak en skoolsweetpak) • Eenvormigheid t.o.v. individuele spanne se opwarmingsdrag, toerdrag en sportbaadjies. Ouers en oud-leerders: • Ouers en oud-leerders word aangemoedig om wedstryde by te woon • Ondersteunersbaadjies (te koop via ondersteunerskomitee) dra op sportdae • Ondersteuners word aangemoedig om funksies na wedstryde by te woon.

7. Faktore wat spankeuse kan beïnvloed
Spanne word hoofsaaklik gekies volgens spelers se potensiaal en spelpeil. Daar is egter ander faktore wat spankeuse kan beïnvloed. Dit sluit die volgende in: 1. Gedrag • Daar sal opgetree word teen spelers wat: – Disrespekvol optree teenoor afrigters, spanmaats, opponente en/of ouers. Dit sluit gedrag op en van die veld in. – Hom aan erge wangedrag in die skool skuldig maak – Hulle skuldig maak aan die gebruik van verbode middels, insluitende drank en sigarette. • Die korrektiewe aksie sal bepaal word deur die afrigters en bestuur van die span, asook die skool se rugby organiseerder(s). Die skool se beleid kan as riglyn gebruik word. 2. Afwesigheid by oefeninge • Geen leerder mag sonder ‘n geldige verskoning wegbly van oefeninge af nie. • Geen leerder mag ‘n verskoning saam met ‘n spanmaat stuur nie. Dit is elke leerder se eie verantwoordelikheid om die afrigter persoonlik in te lig as hy nie die oefening sal kan meemaak nie. (Die afrigters sal hul selnommers beskikbaar stel sodat spelers kan sms.) • Geldige verskonings: – Mediese redes – Siek / Beseer / Dringende tandartsafspraak – Persoonlike redes wat onder afrigter se aandag gebring word • Geen leerder sal verskoon word omdat hy moet leer vir ‘n toets, eksamen of te veel huiswerk het nie. Leerder kan toegelaat word om vroeër te gaan. • NB!!! Oefeninge (soos gekommunikeer) gaan voort tydens die eksamen en is verpligtend, al is daar geen wedstryde oor nie. Oefeninge sal egter beperk word tot 50 minute en sal slegs twee keer per week plaasvind.

3. Beserings • Die kondisionering van spelers en beseringsvrye spelers is ‘n prioriteit vir die skool. • Indien ‘n leerder beseer is, moet dit (vroegtydig) onder die afrigters se aandag gebring word. • In die geval van harsingskudding moet ‘n mediese sertifikaat van ‘n dokter ingehandig word wat aandui wanneer die speler weer mag speel. • Die hantering van beserings tydens wedstryde en oefeninge is die verantwoordelikheid van die afrigter en spanbestuurder, in oorleg met die ouers. • Die behandeling en bestuur van beserings moet gesamentlik deur die belangegroepe hanteer word (afrigter, ouers, speler, mediese praktisyn). • ‘n Volledige oorsig oor hoe om verskillende beserings te hanteer en bestuur kan op die SA Rugby webtuiste gevind word by:

Management of Rugby Injuries

This section encompasses various aspects of injury identification, prevention and management, including on-field acute rugby injuries, acute spinal cord injuries, and concussion, specific injury prevention programs, rehabilitation and return-to-play guidelines, and specific practical guidelines for a coach or referee on when an injury is serious enough to remove a player from the field of play, or when to seek specialist medical opinion. The primary focus of this section and also on the instructional DVD is the appropriate identification and management of potentially serious concussion, head, neck and spine injuries, and BokSmart provides detailed clinical best practice guidelines in these areas. Detailed injury prevention programs are provided on the BokSmart website; the most relevant being on preventative neck and shoulder conditioning. 8. Kommunikasiebeleid van die skool
• Stellenberg kommunikeer met ouers via e-pos en ook SMS boodskappe (parents are requested to ensure that their contact details are correct on the school’s database). • The team coach and manager will use the school’s group SMS facility and website to communicate with parents. • Spanaankondigings vind op Donderdae na afloop van oefeninge plaas. • Teams and players are also individually communicated with via coaches and management team(s). • Wedstrydbepalings sal op die skool se webblad beskikbaar wees en kan ook per e-pos aan die ouers gestuur word. • Wedstrydbepalings word ook in die twee-weeklikse nuusbrief deurgegee. • Alle ander inligting (bv. ouervergaderings en funksies) sal per e-pos, SMS, in die nuusbrief of deur middel van amptelike skoolbriewe aan ouers deurgegee word. • Die ouer-verteenwoordigers sal ook die verskillende jaargroepe via vergaderings en per e-pos inlig. • Individual years and/or groups are also communicated with via other forms of the electronic media, for example “Facebook”, “Stellies Aksie”

9. Beleid oor borgskappe
Visie / vision Die skep en behoud van gesonde gesamentlike vennootskappe met maatskappye om projekte te loods ten einde Stellenberg op alle vlakke optimaal te ontwikkel. Missie / mission Die koördinering van alle borgskappe by maatskappye binne ‘n raamwerk waarin alle maatskappye belangrik en gewaardeer sal voel met ‘n vooruitsig dat hul die bes moontlike blootstelling en advertensie by Stellenberg en gemeenskap sal kry. Beginsels / principles ‘n Borg is ‘n instansie wat in ruil vir voordele aan die skool blootstelling op/in/rondom die skool en die terrein as voorwaarde stel. Dit sluit die skool se naam, geboue, drag, drukwerk en programme in. In sodanige gevalle is dit ‘n voorvereiste dat die skool en nie net die spesifieke aktiwiteit wat die borg nader nie, voordeel uit die borg se betrokkenheid moet trek. Die aard van die voordeel is onderhandelbaar. Dié beginsel veronderstel dat die borg se regte te alle tye beskerm moet word en dat die borg waarde vir sy borgskap moet kry. Die skool se verhouding met enige borg moet so verbruikersvriendelik as moontlik wees. Dit moet vir ‘n borg ‘n plesier wees om met Stellenberg geassosieer te word. Die finansiële komitee sal na die diskresie van die skoolhoof en sy bestuur by onderhandelinge met die borg betrek word. Die aard, grootte, wenslikheid van die borgskap asook die moontlikheid van konflikterende belange moet in dié besluit ‘n rol speel. Indien die borgskap skooldrag betrek, moet die goedkeuring vooraf op die voorgeskrewe wyse van die klerekomitee verkry word.

Wanneer die borgskap die statuur van ‘n amptelike skoolborg aanneem, moet die goedkeuring van die beheerliggaam verkry word. Alle ouers, onderwysers en enige ander moontlike belanghebbendes wat borge vir die skool wil nader, moet kennis daarvan neem dat alle moontlike borgskappe as eerste stap deur die skoolhoof en skoolbestuur goedgekeur of afgekeur moet word. In praktyk beteken dit dat die skoolbestuur kennis daarvan moet neem dat ‘n afgevaardigde borge gaan nader. Wanneer die borg belangstelling toon, moet die skoolbestuur se goedkeuring verkry word voor finale onderhandelinge met die borg afgesluit word.

10. Fasiliteite
Stellenberg High Performance Training Centre A new High Performance Training Centre will be established at Stellenberg High in January 2013. The centre will be fully equipped and will be managed by Coenraad de Villiers. Coenraad het Sportwetenskap aan die Universiteit van Stellenbosch studeer. Hy het 8 jaar ervaring as internasionale atleet in judo en olimpiese stoei. He lived and trained with the USA Olympic team at the USA Olympic training centre and also travelled and competed all over the world in some off the biggest international tournaments. Coenraad het na sy sportloopbaan begin werk met elite rugbyspanne soos die Springbok Sewes, Boland Kavaliers, Maties , UCT, Paarl Boys High, Paul Roos, Bishops en SACS. Hy het ook met ander sporte gewerk soos Maties eerste netbalspan en ook van die Paralimpiese Atlete wat goue medaljes gewen het in die 2012 Paralimpiese Spele. The goal of a HPTC is to develop and guide athletes in their journey to perform and compete at top levels. To achieve this, every player will be tested and Nuwe pawiljoen en gimnasium a profile will be put together for each individual. Every training session will be monitored and data kept, monitoring the player’s progress throughout his or her time at Stellenberg. The HPTC will strive to stay relevant and be a topclass facility where the science of training will be implemented to benefit all the athletes at the school.
