District President 306 A2 Leo Isuru Senadheera

Most of the time, when individuals become leaders, they tend to exercise authority upon others. This traditional leadership generally involves the accumulation and exercise of power by one at the top of the pyramid. Though the phrase Servant Leadership may look bit uncommon, it was coined by Robert K. Greenleaf in The Servant as Leader, an essay that he first published in 1970. If you see people as a means to serve you, then you are not a servant leader. I would call you a manager or simply a boss. If you view your role as a leader to empower others to become better at what they do, to achieve greater levels of skill and ability, and become better, more productive people in the process, then you are a servant leader. The highest priority of a servant leader is to encourage, support and enable subordinates to unfold their full potential and abilities. Leos, we are working in a volunteer organization. As Leo leaders, our primary focus should be to serve our fellow leos and community, not to exercise authority. Serve first, earn respect, and then you will be able to become a great leader. At Leo District 306 A2, we promote Servant Leadership qualities in building next generation leaders.

What motivated you to venture into Leoism?
I joined the leoism to serve the society and also the Leo advisor in 2008/2009 of the Leo club of Polgasowita, Lion Pujitha Uduwana motivated me to become a Leo.

What were the challenges that you faced as a Leader of Leo District?

I have faced many challenges when I was in various positions. Especially when I planned to do quality projects, which the society needed and managing the time and resources.

I always have an aim and also I made plans according to the time and achieved it. I believe in myself that i can do. I cannot forget my parents and friends. Their encouragements helped me a lot to overcome those challenges.

Listen to everyones ideas...

How did you overcome those challenges?

What are your values in Leoism?

I have lots of friends and I have got lots of experiences about event organizing, team work, many opportunities to show my talents as a leader and I have a got opportunity to serve the society in many ways.

What is the energy you see in Leoism that should be improved for the betterment with your experience?
Friendship is an energy I saw in Leoism, experiences from event organizing, team work.

How did the experiences from Leoism help you in your studies/carrier?

Time management is a really important thing that I got from Leoism, I have learned to face various types of problems in daily life, to identify the society. As I have met Leos who have more experiences than me in my carrier it has been an advantage for me to succeed in my carrier.

What is your message to Leoism as a Leo who came a long way as a Leo Leader?

A Leader should listen to everyones ideas, need to manage with the resources that he or she has and also need to think logically and fairly.

Leadership and Team Building Training Program

Conducted by Leo District Council 306 A2
Leo District Council 306 A2 conducted a corporate leadership/team building training on 30th of December at Sisiras River Lounge, Kitulgala. The training was conducted by 3 of Leos (District President Leo Isuru Senadheera, Leo Charith Siriwardana and Leo Lamal Kottage) for 50 factory staff of Saman Enterprises, Peliyagoda which manufactures plastic items. Since this was the first time Leo District Council 306 A2 conducted a training program to corporate sector it can be considered as a milestone for the district. Further, that was an eye opener on areas we can explore, to show the public that Leos are proven leaders.

but to those who are proactive and take action

We all want success in life but unfortunately very few of us are actually planning and setting ourselves up for success. People have often stated that success is like a stair case and you should climb it one step at a time. If you want success, you must have a plan that can guide you so that you know exactly what to do to achieve success. All successful people have a plan. They have goals in life and they know exactly what to do to get them. They dont sit and wander around what to do; they have a detailed plan and roadmap that they can follow every step of the way towards success. Successful people know where they are going and what they need in order to get there. They have carved out a bright future for themselves and are confidently working their way towards getting to their destination. These are people who believe in the power of goal setting as an effective way of achieving the things they want in life. Here are some tips to help you set your goals in life and how to achieve them. Put Your Goals into Writing

Dreams of Success do not come to those who wait,

One of the very first things you need to do in setting goals is to write all of them down. They have to be specific, clear, and realistic goals. Once you have written them down, plan out how you are going to achieve them, step by step. If you dont plan for success, you are planning to fail. People who dont have goals in life cant live a purposeful life. They are always wondering what to do each day. If you have goals and a plan to guide you to get them, you must also have a strong discipline and determination to take action to achieve your goals. Otherwise your plan will be just a paper that is collecting dust. Ability to Overcome Challenges When you are on a mission to achieving your goals, you are going to face problems and challenges. You must develop an attitude and confidence to face your challenges and overcome them. Do not expect a smooth journey. The journey to success will be full of challenges and roadblocks; those who have the courage to face their problems and overcome them are going to succeed. Those who give up amidst of challenges are not going to succeed. Believe in Yourself One of the most common factors that hinder us towards achieving our goals is our lack of self-confidence. If you do not even believe that you can actually be successful, then there is just no way that you can do this. Selffulfilling prophecies are more powerful than you think. Have a Backup Plan Changes in life is inevitable. No matter how well you plan, you must be ready to embrace changes. So you need to have a backup plan or plan B. Dont put all your eggs in one basket! That is the advice I want to give you. Always strive to build your safety net. To sum up, I would say Success would never come to you until you make an effort to achieve it. Therefore do not wait for anything; go ahead and achieve it. Do Not Wait For Success - Plan For it Written by: Leo Isuru Senadheera
