A View of Grade Two

Equipping students to impact the world for Christ Do Hard Things

February 18, 2013

Dear Parents and students, It was fun to watch the great performances in the Jan Brett plays! We're thankful so many parents could join us. The performances are on video on the blog. It would be wonderful if you and your child could watch and reflect on the form how he/she did. Please remind your child that Mrs. Hino had to turn up the volume to over 400% for it to be that clear. Mrs. Hino will be traveling with her husband this week and so we appreciate Mrs. Paul coming in to substitute. Language arts -We'll be doing regular Daily Five time and reviewing reading strategies by playing "Guess the Strategy" when Mrs. Wordell is reading to the class. This week we'll be focusing on strategies that help comprehension. The students will begin writing a letter to Jan Brett. This will go through the writing process of a rough draft and then a final draft. The students will be sharing something about themselves, telling about their favorite Jan Brett book, and sharing an idea for a new book. You could discuss some of these items with your child to get the brainstorming going. The letter will be worked on in class, but it is always good to have some ideas before the actual writing.

Bible - Bible memory - many have not said Matthew 13: 8, 23. Since it is a short week we will wait for our next memory verse. We continue learning about Jesus’ miracles: Unmerciful Servant Matthew 18:21-35, Laborers in the Vineyard Matthew 20:1-16 and The Tenants - Matthew 21:33-45. Mathematics - The students will have some time to work on World Education Day on Thursday. On Friday they will be going to the gym to see the middle school science fair.

Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”
