The Saber-tooth Curriculum is a famous satire on curriculum development, which was published in 1939. It tells the story of New-Fist and his curriculum. In a post-apartheid South Africa we can still learn a great deal from this satire. Write an essay in which you reflect on the following issues: 1. Explain in your essay which universal principle is illustrated by the saber-tooth curriculum.
2. Are there any links between the Saber-tooth curriculum and the implementation of outcomes based
education (OBE) and the national curriculum statement (NCS) in South African schools? Briefly explain your answer. 3. In your essay you should also reflect on the different curriculum approaches advocated by Tyler, Stenhouse and Freire. Were the implementation of OBE and the NCS in South African classrooms based on these scholars' insights? All essays must be typed using Arial font, size 12 with 1 1/2 line spacing. Your essays must be 2-3 typed pages in length. Dr de Beer has granted you a 1 week extension on the due date for this essay. Thus you will NOT be submitting in class next week but rather the week after next in your lecture.
