Video of the Week - When steel ball bearings fail Introducing xiros plastic ball bearings from igus
Designed to work in applications where steel ball bearings fail, the xiros plastic ball bearings from igus are dry running, single row, deep grooved ball bearings made to DIN 625 standard dimensions. A xiros ball bearing consists of four components; the outer race, inner race, cage and balls. The first two components and the cage are made of specially formulated tribological plastics with chemical and temperature resistance that maximise service life and minimise the coefficient of friction. Interestingly the balls can be stainless steel, glass or plastic. This offers the customer a chance to choose the best solution based on weight, load capacity, noise reduction, chemical resistance, environment, cost, etc. What applications can benefit from a xiros plastic ball bearing? Because of its dry running properties, xiros is well suited to applications requiring no maintenance and no lubrication. This provides significant advantages in areas where wash-downs are required or in operational environments where the components may decompose and also when the rotational speed is too high for a standard plain bearing. Of course, xiros ball bearings, when used with glass or plastic balls, are non-metallic and non-magnetic. These are only a few of the benefits that xiros can offer.
