"Strategy for Project ABC" >>> Implement Strategy” Problem: Themes & Goals are uncoachable & therefore are potential time wasters. Goals can be polished but a profesionall coach goes one important step further, & this simple technique is a cracker! They "Contract". Contracting is coaching jargon for creating a specific, achievable target/outcome... (and here's the genius of it)... for a specific time frame. It looks simple, but you'll be surprised, it takes guidance to implement. Sample contracts for the above themes & goals: ? “Brainstorm 5 possible solutions to improve morale.” ? as a team on the first short term milestone ”Decide to reach for the project strategy.” Now imagine meetings with clear, agreed targets that everyone focused on achieving. Add several other ILS coaching skills & methods to make meetings really work!

CASE STUDY
TRAINING OBJECTIVE: “Equip marketing management team with methods to improve meeting productivity”. ILS trained 18 managers in a 1 day ILS Coach@Work “Meetings that work” seminar. Here is a snap-shot of some ILS persuasion coaching skills to try out. Backtracking - use people’s own words in conversation. Listen well, and weave a single important word they used in your next sentence. Softening - ask questions with softeners to relax people into creative resourceful thinking. E.g. “So, what could some ways of fixing this be?” instead of “How will you fix this?” Reframes - when someone tells you what they don’t want, reframe with a coaching question so that they focus on what they do want. Spiral UP - spiral down is thinking & conversation focused on the problem, the past or negativity. Change the focus to spiral up, which focuses on solutions, the future and positivity.

TENSION to FLIGHT
The crossbar in individuals represents an inner conflict within the persons mind. Example: “procrastination” versus “decisiveness”. One aspect of the pair is judged as "bad" and the opposite aspect polarised against it. Inner conflict then ensues, robbing the person of the energy they need to move forward towards their goal. A kite cannot fly if the crossbar is unbalanced, so we coach the polarity to reframe the judged negative aspect and transform the tension into constructive energy. By doing this the individual is able to more easily transcend the tension and rise to meet their goal. The crossbar in group dynamics and meetings represents group tension or conflict. Groups can then divide into polarised dynamics that waste time and energy. Each side tries to prove that it is right and the other wrong. By coaching the group crossbar the tension can be transformed and the group aligned towards the common of the goal.
