This Week in Syria, Deeply

Dear Deeply Readers, This week we launched a new series on the Forum, called News Deeply Asks. It's a space to tackle what confuses you most about the conflict, one question at a time -- we kicked off by asking, What Should be the Next Step for Syria? If you'd like to pop in a question for us to tackle, send it to ask@newsdeeply.org. In photojournalism, we looked At a War's Root: Unarmed Protests, and ran a One-on-One with NPR's Deborah Amos, on her near-miss of a deadly bombing. Our Mohammed Sergie looked at the Social Media Buzz: Scuds and Suicide Bombings, while Syrian refugees in Egypt conveyed a kind-of Damascus on the Nile. In Google Hangouts, Jihad Yazigi of the Syria Report gave us a run down on Syria's economy and its humanitarian fallout. Our conversation got cut short by the state of Beirut internet, but not before Yazigi went into details like the street price of the Syrian pound. As always, to help you review, here’s our day-by-day roundup of Syria news this week: Monday: Syria’s Foreign Minister Says Government Ready for Talks with Armed Opposition; Refugees Riot in Jordan Camp Tuesday: Rebels Push into Police Academy as Jets Strike; Russia Wants U.S. to Help Foster Dialogue in Syria Wednesday: Fighting Threatens Historic Mosque; Jordan Sees Surge in Refugees; U.S. Secretary of State Looks at Next Steps in Syria Thursday: Blast Hits Regime-Held Part of Homs; Rebels Seize Iconic Aleppo Mosque; U.S. Pledges $60Mn to Opposition
