What do we have money to do?

y
From E Madison St to S Jackson St Partially reconstruct and pave the outside lanes Partially overlay the interior lanes of pavement Upgrade signals Install Transit Signal Priority (TSP) Install fiber optics Install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras sta c osed c cu t te e s o (CC ) ca e as Provide detection Improvements Install license plate readers for travel time information Make bus stop improvements k b Repair sidewalks Make lighting improvements There is also the potential for an additional grant to fund transit speed and reliability improvements north of E John Street to Montlake Boulevard. An announcement on award of the h f h l k l d d f h grant should occur in the first half of 2013. From S Jackson to Rainier Ave S Upgrade signals Install Transit Signal Priority (TSP) Install fiber optics Install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras Provide detection Improvements Install license plate readers for travel time sta ce se p ate eade s o t a e t e information Provide access improvements to S Hill Street

THE FACTS

What do we have to consider?
One crucial key to the future of this corridor’s cross section is an analysis of how a three-lane cross section would affect transit on the corridor.

THE FACTS

What other challenges do we face?

A three-lane section at the Yesler, John and Madison intersections would result in a level of service shortfall, causing delays that adversely affect the function of the corridor Average Vehicular Daily Traffic Volumes: ◦ 20,000 Boyer Ave E to E Madison St ◦ 16,500 E Madison St to E Jackson St ◦ 13,400 S Jackson St to Rainer Ave S

THE FACTS

Preliminary study indicates LOS F under 3 lane scenario

What data do we have about volumes as they exist today on the corridor?
Pedestrian Average Traffic Volumes are: • Pedestrian volume counts during the PM p g peak hour at rd counted 17 pedestrians on average, Union and 23 traveling N-S along 23rd on four separate days between 56:45 pm.

Higher pedestrian volumes were documented traveling E-W along Union Street – averaging 54 pedestrians during that same peak hour.

THE FACTS

What are some of the other constraints?
Right of way constraintsroadway width and building p (as footprints ( narrow as 35’ in some locations)  Purchasing additional right of way (property) not scoped in funding sources.  Limits ability to expand cross section through property acquisition
