Introduction
What is Edmodo?
Edmodo is a social media site created for educational purposes. It is a virtual classroom with a layout very similar to Facebook, which appeals to students. Using Edmodo teachers can share content with other teachers and students. Teachers can create assignments and quizzes, hold discussions, and embed helpful links. Students are able to collaborate, hold discussions, and ask questions on an open forum. Both students and teachers can access Edmodo on their smart phones, ipads, home or school computers.

Educational Benefits
Edmodo is an extension of the classroom with a social flare. By giving teachers and students a secure place to share thoughts and ideas, Edmodo connects teachers and students both inside and outside of the classroom. Other ways that Edmodo benefits the classroom include: Student access to their peers and their teacher after schools hours. Ability to network the teacher to other educators around the world. Ability for students to learn from each other online. All interaction is monitored by the teacher. Develop online penpals for the class. Social engagement for all students. Improves communication with students Reduce the amount of paper used in your classroom Safe, closed network: students don't have to include personal information in profile It's free! Sharing digital media such as blogs, links, videos, documents, notes, presentations etc.. Students can participate in online discussions Teachers can expand their PLN (Personal Learning Network) Friendly to the environment by saving paper Students have a real audience for their work Online calendar that keeps all homework organized for teachers and students Create connections with other students from different schools, states, or cultures Teachers can differentiate instruction by creating subgroups of students After posting their work, students can receive immediate feedback and suggestions There are text alerts to remind students of big assignments

If students finish an assignment early, they will be able to move on to the next assignment if they choose. Parents are able to log-on to a personal account with class code and see what their child is learning/doing in the classroom. Creates more parent involvement by giving parents a way to communicate with the teacher without having to come to the classroom. Parents can log-on when and where is convenient for them. Provides quick and easy access to assignments, polls, calendars, and other information on the web. Ability to post resources they find useful and of good quality in the library tab. Provides students another resource for academic information and cuts out the time they would spend trying to find it.
