According to Edith Pierce, We will open the book. Its pages are blank.

We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day.

I am very delightful to say that this is the start of the third year wherein our nation is going along with the right path. For the past years, I am proud that we have already started conquering the problems left by the past administration little by little. And I know, this year will bring more fulfillments and achievements.

The past year was not perfect, I admit. We are aware that our country suffered some difficulties like the massive destruction of typhoons, the death of our former DILG Secretary Jessie Robredo, issues on national security and others. Although it was coated with negative matters, still, the past year was mostly made up of good news and events.

We were once considered as the Sick Man of Asia. But because our economy continues to increase, we gained several investors to invest in our country. Our Gross Domestic Product or the GDP accelerated in the third quarter of 2012 to 7.1 percent which made us one of the highest among the members of South-East Asia.

Parallel to the GDP, our all time Philippine Stock Exchange boosted. Several historic and effective laws were passed like the Sin Tax Law and RH Law. The signing of Bangsamoro Framework of Agreement was also one of the good news last year. We witnessed the improvement of our justice system in terms of its administration which proved that No one is above the law.

I am confident enough to believe that this year will be the continuance of the progressiveness and improvement of our sovereignty. But this will never come into reality without you. Without the Filipinos who are my boss, who are the foundation and hope of the nations entirety and the believers of its betterment.

This 2013, let us hold our hands together and start the year right for there will always be hope in pursuing and continuing the good things we have started. Happy New Year! May God continue to bless us all.
