A. Introduction Psychiatric area is one of exposure of the nursing students .

Our group was lucky to be assigned at the psychiatric area at (DMH) Davao Mental Hospital .We had encountered several common psychiatric disorders such as different types of schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. We chosed to study Bipolar I , Manic phase with psychotic disorder. We chosed this type of disorder for us to understand and appreciate this type of psychiatric ailment.

Bipolar disorder, formerly called manic depression, is a mental illness that causes people to have episodes of severe high and low moods. People who have this illness switch from feeling overly happy and energized to feeling very sad and vice versa. Because of the highs and the lows or two poles of mood the condition is referred to as "bipolar" disorder. In between episodes of mood swings, a person may experience normal moods. Mania describes the periods when the person feels overly excited and confident. These feelings can quickly turn to confusion, irritability, anger, and even rage. Depressive describes the periods when the person feels very sad or depressed , usually lost of interest in pleasurable activities and lastly social withdrawal.

According to Statistical Count of Right Diagnosis which was published at March 1, 2013 . Philippines prevalence rate for Bipolar disoder is 1,034,900 million
