Hemorrhoids is caused by the expanding of the vein's tussocks and cirsoid
under the membrane of the rectal mucous and the hypodermic part of the anal
canal. We can divide hemorrhoids into three types according to the area in which
it occurs: internal hemorrhoids, external hemorrhoids and the mixed type. It is
more common in adults.

1. Clinical Manifestations

The main symptoms are hemorrhaging, prolapse, swelling, itching, pain, a
dropping feeling and the feeling of a foreign substance.

2. Qigong Treatment

1) Lifting Qi Exercise
Practise this 3 to 5 times a day. See the previous section of prolapse.
2) Qiaoqiao (Seesaw) Qigong
Practise this 3 to 5 times a day, 5 to 10 minutes each time. See the previous
section of gestroptosia.
3) Hemorrhoid-curing Method
Standing posture a. Cross the legs, contract the buttocks, make the legs close
tightly and lift the anus. Stand still with the two legs crossed, but relax the muscles
of the whole body. And then contract again. Repeat this about 20 to 50 times.
b. While doing the above movement, add the respiration method to it. After
inhaling enough air, hit the lower abdomen with the two loose fists and exhale at
the same time. Then beat the lower abdomen from light to strong. If you feel
uncomfortable, make it gentler. Repeat this for 20 to 40 times. This exercise is
prohibited for pregnant and menstruating women.
c. Stand with the two legs apart and clench the fists loosely. Raise the fists
through the two sides of the chest to the breast and hold up the head and chest
while inhaling. After inhaling enough air, bend the upper body. Then change the
fists into palms, stretch the arms backward through the two axillas (Fig. 78) and
exhale deeply at the same time. Repeat 6 to 8 times.
d. Stand with two legs close. Raise the two arms along the two sides of the
body. Meanwhile lift the heels and inhale deeply. Then let the arms fall naturally

in the front of the body and lower the heels exhaling deeply at the same time.
Repeat 6 to 8 times.

Lying posture a. Lie on the back with the two legs crossed and relax the whole
body. Contract the buttocks and thighs as tightly as possible and lift the anus with
force as if holding the stool. Try to lower down the parts of the two kidneys to
touch to the bed. When the exercise is done well, add the respiration method to it:
Inhaling while lifting the anus and exhaling while releasing. Repeat 10 to 30 times.
b. Lie down on the bed with the two legs bent and the heels close to the
buttocks. Put the two hands under the head. Taking the soles and the shoulders as
the supporting point, raise the pelvis from the bed and contract the anus, inhaling
at the same time. Then lower the pelvis to the bed, exhaling. Repeat 10 to 30 times.
c. Lie down on the bed, put the two arms beside the body, and relax the whole
body. Raise the two arms to the upper sides and inhale at the same time till the
palms of the hands reaching the highest point above the head. Then lower the arms
along the front of the body to their original place. Repeat 6 to 8 times.
In a word, Qigong treatment has a satisfactory effect on less serious and early
stage hemorrhoid. The patients should choose to practise it accoding to their
personal state of health.


3. Sample Case

Mr. He had suffered from hemorrhoids and difficulty in defecating for more
than 20 years. Whenever defecating, he would sweat all over and hemorrhage,
spending 30 to 40 minutes. He went to see doctors, but all the injections,
physiotherapy, traditional Chinese medicine, and acupuncture had no effect on
him. He declined surgery out of fear of complications. So he turned to Qigong
treatment. He has already recovered completely.
