LEARNING THEORIES-COGNITIVE By: Ashley Cognitivists Allen Paivio Robert Gagne Howard Gardner Benjamin Bloom Key Points of Cognitivism According to Cognitive Theory, activities like thinking and remembering seem like a behavior, thus providing an avenue to use behavior analysis to measure their effect on learning. Classroom implications What the teacher does under this theory(with/out technology)? Teachers should use visual aids such as a graphic. When using media: There are two separate channels (auditory and visual) for processing information. Each channel has a limited (finite) capacity. Learning is an active process of filtering, selecting, organizing, and integrating information based upon prior knowledge. What the students do under this theory (with/out technology)? By the teacher stimulating the student during the lesson, the student will then respond and participate based on the nature on humans. The students mind then starts organizing and making decisions based on what they are seeing. The students mind can be compared to a computer. Information will go in, be processed, and then lead to an outcome. My Opinion Based on this learning theory, our students will interact based on how we stimulate them. I am a bodily kinesthetic learner and need lots of visuals so the research I did helped a lot since I learn like this in many of my classes. Notes are not always helpful for me but examples always are.
