A Rose for Elizabeth Taylor

Charles Cameron

Elizabeth Taylor came to Oxford to support a candidate for the Oxford Poetry Professorship, and my friend and hers (and Samuel Beckett's) Francis Warner was leading the campaign, so I met her in a pub and gave her this rose:

The candidate was Edmund Blunden, going up against Robert Lowell, and he won. 1966 Rose © Charles Cameron, 1966, 2013 etc
