A cv is not a summary of your life, its a summary of your academic work and history

TAILORING See things from the recruitors perspective- which is why it must look like it has been tailored for this application Point out what makes you rather ddifferente, more fit than others for the characteristics of that particular job Remember tailoring its also closely linked to the rule of summarizing. The point of summarizing, as much as that of tailoring is that it leaves your wanting more.

WAYS TO ENSURE 1 - both tailoring and cutting unnecessary part is asking so what? does this make me different, stand out ? 2 you should write max 2 lines what the job was about. But you should also mandatorily add what you brought to that particular job, what was your added value. The best way to think about a process to describe is the even (what you were working on) quantify it (nr of pople, amount of budget) and outcome achieved. Of course you cannot always do at length in a cv but If possible try to abide by the general lines. The point is what the keys are not necessarily responsabilities (which anyway must be included) but achievements (4-5 most relevant, as concreted and quantifiable as possible for the job you are applying for (use value, time quantifiers, etc). Focus on their relevant, their match with the job. For this purpose do a search on the net, what are the requirements of that job ? lso on websites, not just the official site in question. Achievmenets a) money saved b) ionitiatives that you have introduced c) processes youve improved d) save time and money for the company e) recommandations by peers and managers f) added value / made a difference g) increase customer satisfaction h) communicated a difficult point i_) outperformed your peers j) exceeded expectations Also remember use language which has a particular kidn of power. A strong verb initiated, organized etc. if possible name well known organization. Other words- identified, achieved, created, augmented, intiaited. It is about what you have ACHIEVED rather than what you simply did. Its an active

versus passive division. The work you use matters. Ex use not met but achieved, not responsible but headed, not implemented quality procedures but drove quality program, not suggested enhancement but devised improvement

So match your achievements to his requirements Match your tailoring to the companys language. Look at documents of their organization. What are they saying ? Thisn like compliance carefully monitor it says the company is focsed on procedures. Dnyamic language is used if it is about growth. Words like empowerment are used when focusing on peole

Final note DONT JUST DO IN ONE TIME, ONE TWO HOURS QUICK QUIC, KBUT RATHER DURING SEVERAL DAYS

NO ORTOGRAPHIC MISTAKES1!!!!

FORMAT If possible send paper, A4 (mandatory)( 100 gms best, if not 80 gms) If possible slightly creamy colour It is also advised a please dont bend envelope Send directly to the person in charge, not to human resources, it will get lost. And dont use dear Sir but find out his name. Do not call it just cv but your name + cv If you can choose its lengths (it is not standard format) make it maximum 3 pages. IT IS ALSO VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE FIRST PAGE says the most essential things about you. THE POINT: IF YOU PROVE YOU CANT SUMMARIZE YOU ALREADY SAY MUCH ABOUT YOUR COMPETENCE. NOTE ALSO IT IS IMPORTANTE YOU STICK TO THE WORD LIMIT AND CUT AS NECESSARY THRIOUGHT THE CEV, rather THAN CUT BIG at the last finish part.

MISTAKES attract more attention. It will be little things that will show you are not paying attention.

Layout- preferably Times New Roman, Arial, Verdana \ If possible put critical text on the LEFT side of the page Recent items first- chronological cvs work better than functional cvs. Functional cvs are usually used for transfer between areas or coming back into an industry or changing diverse enough functions in which case you must look for transferable skills. Only in this case you may want to bring out old data (ex 10 years ago) and only if it points out to transferable skills Use bullets points. But try to summarize as much as possible. Because too many bullets are difficult to read NO HUGE WHITE GAPS MAKE A HEADER WITH YOUR NAME AND AN EMAIL ADDRESS ON EVERY PAGE, NEXT TO THE PAGE NUMBER, BECAUSE PAGES MAY BECOME DISCONNECTED (for not mandatory online formats) USE A COVERING LETTERS- it is an attachement which is separate from the cv which you also attach to the memail or put in the envelope. Do not put in in the body of the email, since you dohnt know if the email will be printed ITS IMPORTANCE SHOULD NTO BE UNDERE ESTIMATED. It should have between 3 and 5 bulletpoitns that should be telling the employer why you are right for that job. It is not a mere copy paste from your cv. Tis role is to highlight and extend what you have in your cv. If possible it should also have some form of action : such as I would like to call if possible, rather than the passive if I hear from you that will be great

CONTENT (other issues)- APPLICABLE INCLUDING IN STANDARD FORMAT (ONLINE FORMS) CVS Tell the truth. You are allowed to present the best part of yourself, thats what a cv is for. But do not exaggerate. And remember ANY INACCURANCY is grounds for dismissing for gross misconduct. Dont use language you cant support. Ex team player when you are a greaduate. That is Each bullet point should start with a different word, preferably a strong verb or adjectives. So9 the point is rather than put nice adjectives, think of the evidence to prove it Do not use the same words more than once within the same paragraph

Some people say to be careful about too much I and insert some we casue its alos about the environment you are working on DONT PUT INFO IRRELEVANT TO YOR JOB- KIDS AND HOBBILES For not online forms- aka when you can choose your own format note there is an excellent example of a cv in part 7 of the CV audio file of Career library (its am image, just for few brief seconds( If you can choose the format (or the online format contains it) make sure you include a personal profile 3-4 lines paragraphs in the beginning of your Cv (after name and such of course). This is like a powerful first punch which says a) who you are b) why you are interested in me c) what is it that you have that the employer may want. D) (optional) the kind of organization you would like to work in. why do you need a profile ? cause otherwise you are telling them they are just like the job you currently have and since you sent them the Cv you currently dont want the present job so where is the difference ? If you are allowed a personalized stamen (my note=- what is the difference with profile?), you should use it to make an impact. Should contain a) what you have to offer b() when you did similar jobs c) real achievements and contributions d) statement why you want to exercise those skills in this particular job

EXPLAIN THE GAPS. Dont just leave them open. Explain them. It should not be a gap that says you have been doing apparently nothing. Rather it should be a gap which says that you remained positive, that in this time you did not work you did something-0 took on a masters, etc Dont include a photograph unless specifically required. Its because usually you are either too good looking or not good looking at all Dont criticize yourself, dont criticize the others, or refer to them slightly discriminatorily or derisive, even if you perceive it as a joke! Dont include references unless expressely required. Besides, you dont know their mood they are in your employers when they are called. Besides, its usually your job to get references Update your content in due time, not at the last minute. Cause they tell if it has been updated at the last miute ? How ? because you make formatiing mistakes- not the same font, gaps, spelling mistakes etc. Basically, treat your cv as first time every time

Dont use acornmys or jargon that are not appropriate for that particular company. Note I sadi company, not market, for companies, even in the same market, may have different language, jargon etc. Be careful about online presence. You may indicated it . even if you do, even if you dont make sure that your online presence is professional (linkedin, plaxo) Never ever humour. It may sound funny to you, but to the employer it sounds odd at best, or plainly discriminatory at works Usually you should not mention interests and activities, cause they are usually not related to the job. Also you either exaggerate it or put something quite boring. Still, since its usually customary to metion them, the point is this : whatever yo mention, be prepared to talk about something you have done recently and with enthusiasm. Ideadlly soemthign that brings out skills related to the job. FOR ONLINE FORMS- it is particulary important,s ince you cannot use your own pwerosnalized cv but an application form, tob e sure to complete EVERYTHING in the form. REMEMBER most cvs are read by the juniors ina company and never really get any higher if these people dont put them on. And they look for any reason to exclude you. Most important- make your cv consistent and coherent

OTHER ISSUES if possible follow up with an email or phonecall after sending that cv. This hsoulws you are keen and eager for your cv to be considered at the top of the file. But keep conversation brief, with 2-3 reasons why you are an excellent match for the job. Note if there are ny country requirements. Ex in germany cvs are very long, with supporting evidence. So find out what, in that territory, is expected. Bring a copy of your cv at the interview. You may be asked specific questions as to why you used a language
