You have now read the account of some of the lifechanging events that happened to Kay and me more than twenty-five years ago. I have left out some incidents and details because I do not want to give the dark side any more notoriety than is necessary to convey my message. Unfortunately, today’s proliferation of occult themes through books, movies, and video games is causing many people to think that the spirit realms are only a fantasy. But, this could not be further from the truth. From my experience, I learned that we are spiritual beings having a physical experience, and that our consciousness continues on after death. I also discovered that hell and demons are real. This being so, I am equally certain that heaven and angels are real. But, by far the most profound part of my experience was the spiritual connection I made with Jesus. It was in those moments of sublime peace that the reality of his Spirit of Love penetrated my soul, and I knew without a doubt that he was real. In spite of my rejection of Him, God loved me enough to deliver me from spiritual darkness. He loves all people at all times and calls every soul to His divine Light.

46 The Near Death Experience In recent years, a number of authors have written books describing how they “died” from a sudden illness or trau matic event, and then traveled to spirit worlds. This phenomenon is known as the near death experience (NDE). Two accounts that have been especially helpful for my understanding of the spirit worlds are those written by George Ritchie and Howard Storm. Both men met Jesus in the spirit realm and experienced the same miraculous Spirit of Love that filled me when I chose him as Lord. In Return from Tomorrow, George Ritchie describes the love he felt when he encountered Jesus as a divine Man of Light: “Above all, with that same mysterious inner certainty, I knew that this Man loved me. Far more even than power, what emanated from the Presence was unconditional love. An astonishing love. A love beyond my wildest imagining.”6 In My Descent into Death, Howard Storm writes about the love he experienced when he met Jesus during his near death experience: “I experienced love in such intensity that nothing I had

47 ever known before was comparable. His love was greater than all human love put together. His love totally enveloped me, and I realized that he was indescribably wonderful: goodness, knowledge, power, and love. He was more loving than one can begin to imagine or describe. Jesus did love me.”7 Love is The Way In the Sermon on the Mount, recorded in Matthew’s Gospel (chapters 5-7), Jesus sets forth his ethical teaching. He summed up the Torah and the Prophets by saying that we should treat others as we would want them to treat us. He taught the people to love their enemies and be peacemakers, to be forgiving and merciful, and not to pass judgment on others. He advised them to keep a humble spirit and not to amass wealth, but rather to be generous and caring toward the poor and needy. During his earthly ministry, Jesus attracted a diverse group of followers and broke with the social norms of his day. His traveling entourage included women and a number of marginalized people who were considered to be “sinners” by the religious establishment. Many of these people had little in common with one another. Jesus taught them that loving their neighbors as themselves was the same as loving him,8 and shortly before his

There are good people in bad religions and there are bad people in good religions. along with a stern warning: “ Question: Which is the best religion? It is not so important which religion. but what individuals do with the religion they have been given. or some other denomination.

Too often people find religion to be self-serving, interested in perpetuating itself and controlling people’s lives in order to be dominant… God abhors religion that creates divisiveness between people, that justifies violence, that promotes pride in self-righteousness.”10 Jesus knew there would be people who followed him out of self-interest rather than out of love. So, he warned that many of them who called him ‘Lord,’ and who did great things in his name, would be rejected in the end because their motivations were wrong and their actions were evil. Then, he concluded by saying that everyone who hears his words must choose to act on them, or face destruction.11 The Arrow of Time Time is like a flowing river. It moves in one direction and never stands still. In physics, this is referred to as the “arrow of time.” Jesus told his followers, “Be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.”12 He understood that every mistake we make, whether unintentional or not, carries with it the irreversible consequences of cause and effect. We reap what we sow, and even our thoughts have energy that gives

50 us the power to affect both the physical and spiritual worlds. But, human beings are not perfect and the arrow of time makes it impossible for us to go back and undo our past wrongs. We are all destined to die with the negative consequences of our mistakes. This truth became clear to me when I was in the outer darkness of hell. Ultimately, only God Himself can heal the damage that we do and bring good out of evil. This is why Jesus, as the Messiah, is portrayed in the scriptures as the sacrificial lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.13 Jesus calls every soul to himself when he declares: “ I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life. No one comes to the Father but through me.” 14 Our conscious transition from this world into the next will be seamless, so how we live in this life matters and will determine in which direction we go- either toward the Light or away from the Light. Jesus is the manifestation of God’s unconditional love- a love that transcends all religious, philosophical, and moral debates- a love that is more satisfying than all the wealth, and fame, and power this world can offer. Pursue love because, in the end, everything else is meaningless- a chasing after the wind.
