Greensboro, NC -- April 1, 2013 -- April 4, 2013 will mark the 45th Anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King in Memphis, Tennessee. The Beloved Community Center will host a citywide meeting on that day [April 4, 2013] to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. King by continuing in his spirit, to stand against the injustices of today, particularly as it relates to the corruption and double standards within the Greensboro Police Department. The meeting will be held from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM at the Greensboro Historical Museum, 130 Summit Avenue. The meeting will begin a process of organizing citizens to engage and dismantle the corrupt, dangerous police subculture that is prevalent in our GPD. The Beloved Community Center recently produced a publication entitled, Our Democratic Mission which documents the Greensboro Police situation and sets forth a citizen driven process to seek solutions. This event is free and open to the public.

The mission of the Beloved Community Center of Greensboro is to foster and model a spirit of community based on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.s vision of a Beloved Community. in this spirit, we envision and work toward social and economic relations that affirm and realize the equality dignity, worth and potential of every person.
