One of the most significant aspects of learning a language is learning the vocabulary of that language and its adequate

use. It is not possible to learn a language without learning its vocabulary. In other words, vocabulary learning lies at the center of language learning, and consequently, great attention should be paid to the matters related to vocabulary learning/teaching. Since traditional methods of learning vocabulary – the learning of individual words or memorizing bilingual vocabulary list – appeared to be no longer viable, researchers suggested ways for learning multiword phrases and chunks. In other words, they suggested the importance of focusing on the association between lexical items in order to establish vocabulary learning. The present linguistic study of vocabulary and its central role in acquiring language competence has changed radically in comparison with the previous approaches. Learning a foreign language used to be associated with learning its grammatical structures, with lexis being very restricted. Briefly, the significance of vocabulary in the learning process was inferior while the function of grammar was regarded superior. It was like that until Lexical Approach theory was establised by Lewis, and stated the central role of lexis as the basics of any language
