* “Marc Garlasco has been on the northern border of Gaza for the past five days watching what he says are white phosphorus munitions exploding over a crowded refugee camp.”
*Source: Christian Science Monitor

* “Mr. Garlasco, a senior military analyst for New York-based Human Rights Watch (HRW), says that the way Israel is using the incendiary device is illegal. White phosphorus shells contain more than 100 felt filaments that ignite upon contact with the atmosphere, drift to earth, and burn intensely for at least 10 to 12 minutes”.

* “While the phosphorus explosives are widely condemned for raining down indiscriminate harm, questions have also arisen about the possible use of another weapon called Dense Inert Metal Explosives, or DIME, that was created by the US Air Force. DIME is designed to be used in crowded urban areas since the weapons are highly lethal but have an extremely limited range of explosive force that can reduce collateral damage.”
*Source: Christian Science Monitor

* “Italian scientists from the New Weapons Research Committee, which examines emerging military technology, said in a statement that “evidence is mounting” of DIME usage, saying the wounds may be “untreatable” due to metals like tungsten that enter the body. DIME is packed with tungsten dust that forms micro-shrapnel upon detonation.”

* ”Norwegian doctor Mads Gilbert, who worked in Gaza’s main Shifa hospital during the first weeks of the conflict, and who spoke to media in Egypt and Norway in recent days, is the main source for allegations of DIME use.”This is a new generation of very powerful small explosive that detonates with extreme power and dissipates its power within a range of five to 10 meters,” he told reporters. “There is a very strong suspicion I think that Gaza is now being used as a test laboratory for new weapons.”

Using powerful shells in civilian areas which the army knew would cause large numbers of innocent casualties; Using banned weapons such as phosphorus bombs; Holding Palestinian families as human shields; Attacking medical facilities, including the killing of 12 ambulance men in marked vehicles; Killing large numbers of police who had no military role.

“Israeli military actions prompted an unusual public rebuke from the International Red Cross after the army moved a Palestinian family into a building and shelled it, killing 30. The surviving children clung to the bodies of their dead mothers for four days while the army blocked rescuers from reaching the wounded.”

“Innocent Palestinian people are being treated like animals, with the presumption that they are guilty of some crime. Because they voted for candidates who are members of Hamas, the United States government has become the driving force behind an apparently effective scheme of depriving the general public of income, access to the outside world and the necessities of life.” “Regardless of these intricate and long-term political interrelationships, it is unconscionable for Israel, the United States and others under their influence to continue punishing the innocent and already persecuted people of Palestine. The Israelis are withholding approximately $55 million a month in taxes and customs duties that, without dispute, belong to the Palestinians. Although some Arab nations have allocated funds for humanitarian purposes to alleviate human suffering, the U.S. government is threatening the financial existence of any Jordanian or other bank that dares to transfer this assistance into Palestine.”
Former US President Jimmy Carter

“Gaza is a prison where 79 percent of households live in poverty, and children scavenge through dumpsters. It is also an Israeli target range, where schools, bridges and electric plants have been destroyed.” “In the West Bank, Israel continues to expand its settlements and build its wall deep inside Palestinian territory, destroying dozens of Christian and Muslim Palestinian communities. Meanwhile, Palestinians are the first occupied population to be placed under international sanctions”.

SIR Gerald Kaufman, the veteran Labour MP, yesterday compared the actions of Israeli troops in Gaza to the Nazis who forced his family to flee Poland. Sir Gerald, who was brought up as an orthodox Jew and Zionist, said: “My grandmother was ill in bed when the Nazis came to her home town… a German soldier shot her dead in her bed. “My grandmother did not die to provide cover for Israeli soldiers murdering Palestinian grandmothers in Gaza. The present Israeli government ruthlessly and cynically exploits the continuing guilt from gentiles over the slaughter of Jews in the Holocaust as justification for their murder of Palestinians.” He said the claim that many of the Palestinian victims were militants “was the reply of the Nazi” and added: “I suppose the Jews fighting for their lives in the Warsaw ghetto could have been dismissed as militants.” He accused the Israeli government of seeking “conquest” and added: “They are not simply war criminals, they are fools.”

A SENIOR aide to the Pope has sparked a serious diplomatic row between the Vatican and Tel Aviv by describing Gaza as “a big concentration camp”. In an interview with Italian media on Wednesday, Cardinal Renato Martino, president of the Vatican’s Council for Justice and Peace, said “Defenceless populations are always the ones who pay. Look at the conditions in Gaza: more and more, it resembles a big concentration camp.”

ISRAELI right-wingers are furious at the acknowledgement in a new schoolbook that Palestinians were forcibly expelled when Israel was established in 1948. They claim it undermines Israel’s legitimacy as a Jewish nation state. Zevulun Orlev, the leader of the National Religious Party, called on the education minister, Yuli Tamir, to step down after she gave the go-ahead for the new textbook, which is much more honest about the 1948 war than many Israelis are. “Some of the Arab residents were forced to leave their houses and some were expelled and became refugees in the neighbouring Arab countries,” the book says. The book says that what for Jews was a fight for Israeli independence was for Arabs “a catastrophe, a war of disaster and loss”.

In July 2008, 21 South African activists, including ANC members, visited Israel and Occupied Palestine. Their conclusion was unanimous. Israel is far worse than apartheid as former Deputy Minister of Health and current MP Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge explained: “What I see here is worse than what we experienced - the absolute control of people’s lives, the lack of freedom of movement, the army presence everywhere, the total separation and the extensive destruction we saw....racist ideology is also reinforced by religion, which was not the case in South Africa.”

“History has shown that when a society has lost its sense of humanity, it will cease to be part of a civilised society. Whether it is justification for power, ideology, racism, greed or religion, its moral degradation and deterioration is self destroying and unsustainable.”

• Are there 2 types of terrorism? One sanctioned by the West and the other perpetrated by the rest? • The US government actively supports Israel (financial and weapons)* in committing these atrocities and genocide, while the rest of the world turns a blind eye (Britain and Australia included). • Are there 2 types of human rights - one who deserves, and one who does not? • Are there some people who are immune to prosecution from war crimes?

The credibility gap of the west is becoming an unbridgeable chasm.
* Since 1949 the U.S. has given Israel a total of $83.205 billion. With interest, it will come to a staggering $133.132 billion. It could mean that U.S. government has given more federal aid to the average Israeli citizen in a given year than it has given to the average American citizen.
