high defnition & broadcast live on 710 ESPN Seattle & Mariners Radio Network.
ODDS AND ENDS…Mariners are 4-4 to open the 2013 season…have opened on the road each of
the last fve seasons (longest streak in club history)…currently third in the AL West, 1.5 games behind
Oakland & Texas (5-2)…4 of the Mariners frst 8 games have been decided by 2-or-fewer games (2-2),
and featured 2 extra inning affairs (1-1).

a season with back-to-back games allowing 3 or fewer hits in each game since the Reds in 1970.
• Spring Wins - Mariners set a spring club record with 22 wins, trailing only KC (25) for most in MLB.
BULLPEN BANTER…the Seattle bullpen has combined for a 3.00 ERA (7 ER, 21.0 IP) and a .178
opponent batting average (13x73)…stranded 12 of 14 inherited runners…Tom Wilhelmsen is tied
for the AL lead with 3 saves.
STEALING SAUNDERS…Michael Saunders is T2nd in the American League with 3 stolen bases…
Saunders led the team with 21 stolen bases in 2012.
MORE MORALES…Kendrys Morales is batting .500 (8x16) with 3 doubles, 1 home run and 5 RBI
over his last four games…after opening the season 1-for-12 (.083), Morales has raised his batting

game this season...eight games, eight different line-ups.

allowed 30 runs in its frst eight games, and all have been earned runs.
NO DAYS OFF HERE…the Mariners are the only team in the Majors that is yet to have an off day...
Seattle and the A’s were the only teams in the Majors to play each of the frst seven days of the
season, but the A’s were off last night…the Mariners frst off day will not be until next Monday (April
15), a string of 14 games to open the season without a day of rest meaning the Mariners will start
the season with a full extra week more of consecutive games than any other team.

HR LEADER…Michael Morse leads the AL and is second in MLB with
5 home runs (Atlanta’s Justin Upton, 6)…Morse is the second player
in club history to hit at least 5 home runs in the team’s frst 7 games
of the season, joining Ken Griffey Jr. in 1997 (had 6 HR)…Morse led
all players during spring training with a club record 9 home runs in 20
Cactus League games.
WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD...Houston is the frst team to be added to the AL West since
the Mariners joined the league in 1977…the last change to the division occurred in 1994 when the
AL West changed from a seven-team format (California, Chicago, Kansas City, Minnesota, Oakland,
Seattle, Texas) to a four-team format (California, Oakland, Seattle, Texas).
LONGBALL SURGE…the Mariners have hit 9 home runs in their frst 8 games, including at least one
homer in every game except home and road Openers…Mariners hit only 4 home runs in their frst 8
games last season, and recorded only two streaks of 6+ games with a HR all season (season-high
was an 18-game streak Sept. 9-29).
KUMA…Hisashi Iwakuma has struck out 10 and not walked a batter in his frst two starts this
season (14.0 IP)…he is just the fourth pitcher in club history to pitch at least 6.0 innings and not walk
a batter in each his frst two starts of a season…Cliff Lee was the last to accomplish this, recording
three straight starts in 2010, joining Mike Morgan (1987) and Jamie Moyer (2002).
DID YOU KNOW?…that AAA catcher Mike Zunino leads the minors with 12 RBI and 7 extra-
base hits?...Zunino (3x4, R, 2B, HR #3, 4 RBI last night), has hit safely in 3 of his frst 4 games,
