DEFINITION:-

Body Language is the non-verbal communication of


thoughts , ideas and emotions through body
movements.

 It is a word-less communication.

 Itconveys hidden messages from sender


to receiver.

The main aspects of Body
Language
 Gestures-

A Gesture is the verbal or non-verbal body


movement used to emphasize an idea,
feelings, emotions or a state of mind..

• e.g.- Touching face, hands over mouth, glancing


indicates--Lying.
Shaking of head sideways shows- Rejection or to say
‘NO’.

This include the movement of


head, eyes, eyebrows, lips, neck,
shoulders, fingers and so on.

Examples of Body Language
 Sitting with hands clasped behind head, legs crossed--
CONFIDENCE.
 Tapping your feet indicates-- Distracting /
Boredom.
 Crossing arms shows– UNWILLINGNESS to
LISTEN.
 Tilted Head expresses– INTEREST.

 Shaking Head shows– ‘NO’ or Negative Signal.

 Arms crossed on chest indicates-- Defensiveness.

7. Finger on mouth–- Silence.

8. Standing with hands on hips-- Readiness,


Aggression.

9. Hand to cheek-- Evaluation, Thinking.

10. Rubbing the eye -- Doubt, Disbelief.

11. Open arms, nodding– Responsiveness, Eager.

12. Touching face, hands over mouth, glancing– Lying.

 Open mouth & raised eyebrows– Shocked.

 Eyebrows furrowed, lips pressed together– Anger.

 Eyebrows drawn together, drooping upper lip-


Sadness.

 Relaxed eyes,corners of lips raised, mild smile-


Happiness.

 Patting/fondling hair--Lack of Self-Confidence.

18. Eyebrows raised &drawn together, lips
streched, eyes open wide, drops of
perspiration on face -- Fear.

 Lifted eyebrows,wide open eyes, slightly


open mouth, a strange sparkle in the
eyes.– Surprise.
