Presented By, Naziya Prinoob Saneesh

Computer

A Computer can be defined as an electronic device that takes input from its user, stores, processes data and generates the required output as per the processing instructions given to it by the user.

Computer hardware consist of the components that can be physically handled. equipments involved in the function of a computer. . The function of these components is typically divided into three main categories: Input. Output and Storage. Hardware (computer) components.

Light pen. Video card. Speakers Floppy disk. Memory card Central processing unit. Mouse. Hard drive Serial port. Parallel port. Compact disc/CD Drive. RAM. USB flash drive. Power supply. Universal Serial Bus(USB) Data ports . Sound card. Motherboard.Basic computer components Input Devices Keyboard. Microphone Output Devices Removable data storage Computer case Monitor. Webcam.

.

CD-RW(Rewritable) units can read and write CD-R and CD-RW type disks. It can only read CDs. Data to and from the motherboard is carried on a 40-pin IDE(Integrated Drive Electronics) cable. . CD-ROM(read only memory) is the older type.Data is stored optically on the surface of the disk. There are two types of Compact Disk Drives available for PCs 1. 2. A 4-pin cable from the power supply plugs into the CDD and provides power to it. CDD have become the predominant removable storage media for PCs and can store 700 Mega bytes of data.

Data is magnetically on multiple rigid disks that are stacked up like panacakes.It is powered by a 4 conductor cable coming from the power supply. Data to and from the motherboard is carried on a 40-pin IDE(Integrated Drive Electronics) cable. .

It is powered by a cable with a 4-pin connector that comes from the powe supply. It stores data magnetically on a removable floppy disk.44 Mbytes. It transfers data to and from the motherboard by means of 34 pin ribbon cable. . which at one time was a large amount of data. Floppy disk hold 1.

4.  Alphanumerical keys(A-Z. 2. . Keyboard layout provides 104 keys organized as four groups: 1. end etc) Numeric keypad Function keys(F1-F2) Data is transferred to the PC over a short cable with a circular 6-pin Mini-tin connector that plugs into the back of the motherboard. 3.0-9) Location keys(home.The keyboard was the first input device developed for the PC.

It is a large rectangular board with integrated circuitry that connects the rest of the parts of the computer including the CPU. or any others) as well as any peripherals connected through the ports or the expansion slots. DVD. the disk drives(CD.The motherboard is the main component inside the case. . the RAM. hard disk.

procedures and documentation that perform some task on a computer system. Software performs the function of the program it implements. either by directly providing instructions to the computer hardware or by serving as input to another piece of software.    . Computer software is a general term used to describe a collection of computer programs. system software such as operating systems. Software is computer programming code that provides a computer with instructions to perform specific task. which interface with hardware to provide the necessary services for application software. The term includes application software such as word processors which perform productive task for users.

 System  Application . Software includes compilers. such as word processors. software comprises programs designed for an end user. linkers. database systems and spreadsheet programs. and debuggers. Software is generally divided into System Software and Application Software. loaders.

It includes a combination of the following:  Device drivers  Operating systems  Utilities  Windowing systems .System Software System software helps to run the computer hardware and computer system.
