Employment Opportunity: External/Internal Job Posting POSITION: Wasa-Nabin Youth Program Worker ages 13-18 AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY: • To ensure the development and implementation of a full range of program services that will assist in youth making healthy choices through early intervention strategies • To ensure that the Wasa-Nabin program is grounded in culture and based on healthy development principals and practices • To conduct an intake, needs assessment of youth, and develop a plan of action to meet the needs of youth referred to the Wasa-Nabin program • To coordinate individual and group activities (physical, social ) as required meeting needs of program clients • To refer youth to counseling and support, as required • To liaise with community youth’s services • To increase cultural understanding of Native youth and their families to the broader community QUALIFICATIONS: • Awareness of nutrition, physical fitness, safety and health st andards for children and youth. • Knowledge of Aboriginal culture, general lifestyle of Aboriginal people and traditional lifestyles is an asset • Shall possess education and work related experience in the social service work area, preferably in youth related work, i.e. Child and Youth Workers and/or Social Workers • Knowledge of social, cultural and recreational needs and interests of children and youth • Ability to work professionally, collaboratively with youth and their families as well as agency, community and agency personnel • Satisfactory criminal records check • Excellent written and oral communication skills • Organizational and file management skills • Above average computer skills • Documentation Skills and Reporting Skills • Must Possession of a valid driver’s license • First Aid and CPR an asset PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES: High level of motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision Friendly Team player Personal, approachable and supportive demeanor to work with Aboriginal youth High level of enthusiasm & determination Ability to work well with others Ability to handle high levels of stress when necessary and ability to adapt well to new and changing circumstances CLOSING DATE: Thursday, May 9rd 2013 SEND RESUME TO: Morgan Hare, Executive Director Odawa Native Friendship Centre 12 Stirling Avenue Ottawa, ON, K1Y 1P8 (613) 722-4667 (fax) executive.director@odawa.on.ca Preference will be given to applicants of Aboriginal ancestry.
