Bowyer,J Maze Assessment The assessment procedure for MAZE is as follows: readers who score 57% correct or higher are considered an independent reading level, readers who score 44% to 56% are considered at instructional level, and less than 43% at frustration level. Interestingly enough, another passage from Gillet,J.W. & Temple, C. (1990). Understanding

reading problems:assessment and instruction quote Gutherie et al., 1974 states that readers with scores of 85% or better at the independent level, scores between 50% and 85% at the instructional level, and below 50% at the frustration level. The passage is 300 words and will be used for older students such as 4th-6th grade to show how well students can predict or infer words that will fill in the blanks which creates a completeness to the passage. This is also used to measure general comprehension. The criterion is for students to 20WCPM in one minute.
