news. I’m Daisy Rivadeneira. Spring appears to be nonexistent in New Jersey after the state was hit with a few inches of snow yesterday. The storm caused a messy commute for many on the highway, and an even bigger problem with flights. Things are back to normal now and we are expecting the temperature to slightly increase over the weekend.
Even though we aren’t going through spring weather at the moment we are experiencing spring-like effects. According to research by allergist Leonard Bieroly (Bur-oli), it’ll only get worse. By the year 2040 pollen counts will average about 22- thousand grains of pollen per cubic meter. About 10 years ago the average was around eight thousand. Bieroly believes that airborne allergy is increasing because of climate change.
But onto some brighter news, a lucky 44-year old immigrant in New Jersey woke up a millionaire this morning after winning the 338 million dollar Powerball jackpot.
Pedro Quezada (Keh-zah-dah) learned of his good fortune after walking into Eagle Liquors in Passaic. The first person to hear about his life changing event was his wife.
I'm the millionaire, Ines, put on the TV so you can see me, or come down to the liquor store right now.
His first priority will go to helping his family. The last time someone won the Powerball jackpot was more than a month ago, which was valued at 217 million dollars.
We are still in recovery from the destruction after Superstorm Sandy, but efforts are being made by local residents to make it better. In Point Pleasant Beach, a group of volunteers are working together to build the world’s tallest sand castle. The previous record was set by Ed Jarrett, which was 38 feet.
The shore will also be receiving some royalty aid from Prince Harry this upcoming May. Governor Christie assured the English Queen her grandson won’t be getting into trouble.
The Academy Awards will be moved to March for one year only to avoid any conflict with the closing ceremonies of the 2014 Winter Olympics. The 22nd annual Winter Games will be celebrated from February 7th to the 23rd in Sochi, Russia.
