Teach Like a Champion : Strategies to Promote Academic Success for Your Students (Grades K–12) Based on Doug Lemov’s best-selling Teach Like TM a Champion: 49 Techniques That Put Students on the Path to College, this course explores practical strategies for creating a culture of excellence in the classroom and transforming all students, even those considered unmotivated or at risk, into high achievers.

Building Academic Language in the Content Areas Discipline in the Secondary Classroom: Positive Behavior Management (Grades 9–12) Based on Randall Sprick’s book, Discipline in the Secondary Classroom: A Positive Approach to Behavior Management, this course examines research-based practices for increasing students’ motivation to learn and strategies for preventing behavioral issues in the secondary classroom. The Autism Checklist: Strategies to Support Academic and Social Growth for Children With Autism The ESL/ELL Teacher’s Survival Guide: Strategies to Support English Language Learners (Grades 4–12) Based on The ESL/ELL Teacher’s Survival Guide: Ready-to-Use Strategies, Tools, and Activities for Teaching All Levels by Larry Ferlazzo and Katie Hull Sypnieski, this course examines effective practices for supporting English Language Learners (ELLs) in the classroom as well as strategies for communicating with parents and community members. (Grades K–12) Based on The Autism Checklist: A Practical Reference for Parents and Teachers by Paula Kluth and John Shouse, this course examines the characteristics of individuals on the autism spectrum and explores practical strategies and resources available for helping them succeed both academically and socially. Educators also consider strategies for teaching literacy and math skills and creating effective learning environments for these students.

Accreditation The Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership at Walden University is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs and advanced educator preparation programs. However, the accreditation does not include individual education courses offered to preK–12 educators for professional development, relicensure, or other purposes.
