Liberals discriminate against most Canadian parents
For Immediate Release February 25, 2005 OTTAWA – Maurice Vellacott, Conservative MP for Saskatoon-Wanuskewin, in the House of Commons today asked Ken Dryden, the Minister of Social Development: In a recent Vanier Institute study, daycare centres rank a distant 5th when Canadians are asked who they would prefer to care for their pre-school children. A parent, grandparent, another relative and home daycare all ranked higher. Even in Quebec, which has a daycare program of the kind that the Liberals plan to introduce, most parents would prefer to have children cared for by a relative. Conservative Party policy would allow parents to make their own child-care choices. Why do Liberals continue to promote a plan that discriminates against the preferred child-care choices of well over 75% of Canadian parents? – 30 – For further comment, call (613) 992-1966
