COLONMUN 2008

Human Rights Council

WELCOME DELEGATES

“A right is not what someone gives you;

it's what no one can take from you.”
Ramsey Clark

Delegates:

It is my pleasure to welcome you to our sixth annual Model of the United Nations, COLONMUN
2008. First of all, I would like to show you our support at any doubt, commentary or observation
you may have before and during the model. It would be an honor to help you at any moment.

As a chair, we can assure you that it will not matter whether you win an award or not, because
the main objectives of this activity are that you learn, that you develop some abilities, and that
you consider the reality in which the world is living. Also, it is important for us that you have a
great time here, and that you get motivated enough to contribute in the fight the humanity must
live to save this world. If you achieve those goals, we can surely say that you have won both
experience and hope, and that is our objective as a chair.

At the present time, the world is facing so many conflicts, that sometimes doing something about
it, might seem to be beyond our possibilities, and even beyond our responsibilities. At this
moment of general crisis in the world, it is unacceptable to wait for others to act, we must do
something all together now. It is no one’s but our responsibility to give peace, justice, freedom
and love to the people around us.

Sadly, we can say that most of the conflicts that threat the human race’s stability, have
something to do with the violation of human rights. This is why the Human Rights Council has a
vital roll in our actual world. It will be your duty to find solutions to the chosen topics, which have
so many people without the opportunity of demanding most of their rights. With this, we are
planning to convince ourselves that even the most difficult problems can have a solution if they
are analyzed carefully, and discussed in peaceful means. And this will lead us to nothing but
hope.

Last, I would like to thank to all of you for taking the opportunity and the time to discuss the
current reality, and how can we solve the critical situation

Our best wishes and let’s become this debate in the best of all.

And the floor is open!

Alejandro Aguilar

President of the Human Rights Council
