Thanks to all of your work, this race has broken open. The Squadron campaign has opened a clear lead in every fundraising metric including, mostly significantly, funds‐ available‐to‐spend. We are on now pace to have $1 million more in voter‐contact resources than our closest competitor, Reshma Saujani, and at least $1.5 million more than the third‐place candidate, Letitia James. OUR LEAD IN FUNDS AVAILABLE TO SPEND IS GROWING. This is the most important measure of campaign competitiveness – the amount of money each campaign will have available to spend: private funds raised plus expected matched funds minus money spent. As of the May 11 filing, the Squadron campaign has approximately $647,000 more to spend than the Saujani campaign, and $1.1 million more than the James campaign. Given the trend of the last two filings, Squadron may expand this lead to more than $1 million and $1.5 million, respectively, by September 10. This translates directly into more voter contact – on the doors, on TV and in the mail. Our lead is largely based on a focus on grassroots fundraising – the hardest, and most rewarding work of the campaign – the work that so many of you have been engaged in. THE TREND LINES FAVOR US. The best news for the near future is visible in the trends among the candidates’ fundraising. We raised 26% more than the previous period; the Saujani campaign raised 31% less the previous period; and the James campaign raised $86,074— $31,476 more than the previous period. OUR BURN RATE COMPARES FAVORABLY. Most surprisingly to us, we are seeing an important trend emerging on the spending side. While the Squadron campaign has kept its spending under $50,000 per month, the Saujani campaign spent $318,294 in the most recent 2‐month filing period, and spent more than twice what it raised. Daniel’s campaign is firing on all cylinders because of you. If we maintain our pace and present trends continue, Daniel Squadron will be the next Public Advocate of the City of New York.
