WELCOME TO BILINGUAL DIGITAL MAGAZINE (BDM)

This magazine has been developed by students at IES ALTA AXARQUIA, Periana, Mlaga, SPAIN and their teachers within a project to promote the use of the languages used in our school: ENGLISH AND SPANISH. The students have created, looked for information they have decided the contents of the magazine. On the other hand, the teachers who have participated in this magazine have supervised their works, have created the different sections and they have also contributed with their effort to make this project a reality. Thank you. This magazine has been created to be used by anybody: teachers, students of other high schools and countries all over the world; their families and anyone who wants to improve both English and Spanish. La cara de Espaa frente a los pases extranjeros siempre ha sido infame mostrando simplemente su lado juerguista. Caracterstica errnea que define a los espaoles de holgazanes, ya que Espaa tiene muchsimas ms cualidades como por ejemplo su gastronoma, bebidas, restaurantes y muchas ms cosas que hacen de Espaa un pas nico en todo el mundo. La hospitalidad de sus habitantes y el don de gentes que tienen los espaoles hacen que cada da atraiga a ms extranjeros para visitarla. Su historia y cultura se remontan a siglos y siglos en la antigedad, de esta manera cada vez se da a conocer ms Espaa y el Castellano se ha convertido en un importante idioma.

Gastronoma espaola. Si por algo es conocida Espaa es por su buen arte en la cocina, la variedad, y el saber hacer de cada comunidad ofrecen al comensal opciones tan variadas como sabrosas. Est llena de tradiciones e influencias que se remontan a la era de otras culturas como la de los musulmanes, por ejemplo que habitaron largos siglos dejando muchos productos y tcnicas de aprendizaje que antes no se tenan. La comida es una de las cosas ms importantes para los espaoles y como se pueden adquirir muchos productos frescos es muy fcil de obtener sabores exquisitos. 10

Hay muchos ingredientes, en los que cabe destacar el aceite de oliva y el ajo siendo los favoritos para los espaoles en sus recetas. Los quesos con sabores, jamones y chorizos son la especialidad espaola, ya que gozamos de una ganadera de lujo. La comida espaola es muy tradicional y diferente en cada regin, cada una tiene su toque personal ya que los suelos son diferentes y tambin los pobladores de ests. En el norte el clima es mucho ms fro que en el sur, es por eso que los platos son ms elaborados y calricos, mientras que en Andaluca los pescaditos fritos y las tapas van mucho mejor con el clima templado y benvolo para salir de bar en bar, cualquiera sea la poca del ao. Cabe destacar la dieta mediterrnea. Los cientficos han puesto de manifiesto que este estilo de vida es beneficioso para la salud y el bienestar de las personas. Es rica en alimentos naturales como el aceite de olvida, ajo, tomate, etc. En cada una de las comunidades existen comidas espectaculares y cada una diferente a la otra. La comida ms famosa de Espaa es la Paella Valenciana y existen muchas variedades. Famoso es tambin el gazpacho andaluz. Vmonos de tapas. Otra de las costumbres tpicas de los espaoles y que gusta mucho al extranjero es el irse tapas con los amigos y las cervecitas a la hora del medio da, el ir de tapas pone de manifiesto una forma de vida. En la actualidad beber buen vino est de moda, los vinos peleones que durante dcadas tuvieron su lugar en las mesas espaolas, han sido sustituidos por buenos vinos de mesa, muchas veces elaborados con las rigurosas normas que establecen las denominaciones de origen. Los enlogos son los expertos en vinos. El aumento del consumo del vino y su calidad han forjado una cierta cultura del vino con bebedores cada da mas entendidos y exigentes, tambin las visitas a las bodegas se ha disparado y este hecho ha dado a los productores una nueva fuente de ingresos: muchas bodegas pequeas venden parte de su produccin durante las visitas tursticas. Los vinos de Espaa se dividen en denominaciones de origen y los que gozan de ms calidad y prestigio internacional estn en La Rioja, Rivera del Duero, Catalua, Navarra, Pas Vasco y por ltimo los vinos andaluces que han alcanzado renombre mundial, imponiendo las muy singulares y sutiles caractersticas propias de cada regin. Fruto de esto es la extraordinaria gama 12

de matices, consistencia, cuerpo, aromas, color y edades con que se distinguen los jereces, manzanillas, moriles, mlaga, etc. Son tanto y tan bonitos los adjetivos con los que se caracteriza cada vino que merece la pena citar algunos: aterciopelado, aromticos, complejo y genuino, aroma de avellana. Restaurantes espaoles. Espaa posea uno de los ms importantes restaurantes de todo el mundo. Hay bastante consenso en situar al El Bulli como el mejor restaurante del mundo. De hecho este consenso crece aun ms si se trata de designar el mejor cocinero del mundo actualmente: Ferrn Adri. Segn las voces ms especializadas, estamos ante el primero de la historia: "el mayor genio de todos los tiempos". Por tanto, hablar de El Bulli es referirse a muchas cosas. Al menos 30 rehenes y once secuestradores han muerto este jueves durante el asalto del Ejrcito a una planta de tratamiento de gas en el este de Argelia en la que un grupo de terroristas islamistas ha mantenido a decenas de forneos y argelinos secuestrados desde el mircoles, segn ha informado una fuente de los servicios de seguridad argelinos. Snow has brought the UK to a standstill once again and new research has revealed the adverse weather conditions may cost the UK economy a massive 11 billion each year as people find it difficult to get to work.

LAS VEGAS, Tanya Angus was a perfectly healthy 20 year old woman, when she noticed that her clothes were beginning to not fit.
At the time she was 5 11 and 115 pounds. But ten years later, she now stands at 6 6 and 480 pounds, and continues to grow. After multiple misdiagnoses, Angus was finally told she is suffering from acromegaly, often associated with gigantism.

Acromegaly is a syndrome in which the pituitary gland produces excessive amounts of human growth hormone. There are a number of causes that can create this problem, but unfortunately for Angus, she has the most common and most difficult to treat. A brain tumor has wrapped itself around her pituitary gland, causing the overproduction of hormone. Doctors have performed multiple surgeries to remove the tumor but it repeatedly grows back. In 1999, when Angus began growing out of her shoes and suffering from headaches, she went to a few local doctors to get checked out. Unfortunately, they all dismissed her complaints as minor issues. It was not until Angus moved back to Las Vegas that her sister immediately recognized something was wrong and got her properly diagnosed. Now, Angus may suffer permanently due to how long she was afflicted before being treated. Doctors have yet to find a treatment that can help her. She decided to come forward and speak to the media so that others may learn from her predicament and get treated early. Acromegaly affects 2 out of 1,000,000 per year. Some other well known acromegaly sufferers include actor Paul Benedict and self-help expert Tony Robbins.

The most recognizable victim may be pro-wrestler Andre the Giant. One of the WWFs most famous wrestlers, Andre was billed anywhere from 6 10 to 7 4 tall and 500-565 pounds. He went on to famously play a gentle giant in the film The Princess Bride After refusing to be treated for his condition, he died at the early age of 46 due to cardiac complications. 40

El pasado da uno de abril, los alumnos de 3 de ESO fuimos a Arroyo Toquero , en Mlaga. El objetivo de la excursin era que aprendisemos a orientarnos por un terreno que no conocamos. Cuando llegamos all, haba dos monitores que nos explicaron todas las seales que haba sobre el mapa y cmo debamos orientarlo. Muchos de nosotros no habamos hecho nunca orientacin pero nos pareci un deporte muy divertido y adems al aire libre. Con este deporte nos lo podemos pasar muy bien acompaados de nuestra familia, amigos... Esperamos volver a repetir esta actividad el prximo ao.

Last 1st of April, of 3rd of ESO students went to Arroyo Toquero in Malaga. The aim of the activity was to learn to do a course with a map in a unknown place . When we got there, there were two monitors who explained all the signs that were on the map and how we should used the map. Many of us had not done before this kind of activity but we discovered that it's very funny and also you can enjoy to be outdoors. With this sport we can have a great time together with our family, friends ... We hope to repeat this activity next year.

El terremoto fue el da 25 de diciembre de 1884. El terremoto sembr el caos y la destruccin en el municipio de Periana. Este ao se cumple el 129 aniversario del terremoto que caus 58 muertos. Los cortijos de mediado del siglo XVI se haban convertido en una aldea de 65 familias, unos 250 300 pobladores, a mediados del siglo XVIII y en una puebla consolidada, de 600 familias, algo ms de 2000 habitantes, al entrar en el siglo XIX. Poco ms de 80 aos despus, el ao del terremoto vivan en el trmino de Periana unos 4000 habitantes. Para entender la magnitud de la catstrofe, hay que recordar que 158 edificios quedaron completamente en ruinas y que otros 146 quedaron seriamente daados, en su mayora en el pueblo. La aldea ms afectada fue Guaro, practicamente desapareco con el corrimiento de tierra que se produjo. Con estos datos, a los que hay que sumar los deslizamientos de arcillas, grietas o simas y dislocamientos de fuentes y aguas subterrneas. Periana fue el trmino ms daado, de las 106 poblaciones afectadas, con un balance global de 800 muertos, 1500 heridos y 17.000 edificios afectados. Hubo una amplia solidaridad y ayudas externas canalizadas por la comisin regia y del obispado, gracias a estas ayudas se reconstruyeron la Lomilleja y el pueblo. Aparecieron nuevos barrios como el Carrascal y la Plaza del Obispo. Cuando la vida en el pueblo no se haba repuesto an del terremoto sobrevino la crisis del viedo y la del cereal, que afect a la economa del pueblo. Pero hacia 1920 se haba remontado y la crisis econmica y la poblacin rondaba ya los 4500 habitantes. El terremoto lo vivieron nuestros abuelos, bisabuelos o tatarabuelos. El terremoto de febrero de 1969 que tuvo su epicentro lejos de Periana, ech de noche a muchos vecinos del pueblo, quiz por el miedo que despertaba el eco del terremoto de 1884. Estara bien conocer aquel episodio por el enorme impacto que tuvo lugar en la vida de nuestro pueblo y tambin para encontrar sendas de futuro, igual que las encontr nuestro pueblo despus de aquel y otros cataclismos. 45

Despus el paso por las naves de criado de moscas blancas, para la experimentacin con ellas, y la del cultivo de tomates, en la que se intenta restaurar el sabor del tomate tradicional, ms sabroso y carnoso. Para finalizar la visita en La Mayora paseamos por los amplios campos de aguacates.

A continuacin hicimos una parada en la playa de algarrobo costa, en la que tomamos un delicioso helado casero.

Y finalizando la excursin pasamos por Trops, donde tras otro video informativo sobre el origen de la empresa y de la calidad de sus productos, nos hicieron una visita guiada por las instalaciones.

Las matemticas es una de las ciencias ms antiguas de la humanidad, con la utilizacin de los nmeros remontndose a hace ms de 400.000 mil aos. Siempre se han usado las manos para hacer cuentas, pero con el paso del tiempo necesitaron representar nmeros cada vez mayores y tuvieron que inventar smbolos adecuados. Al empezar a dedicarse a la agricultura, el ser humano tuvo que idear un sistema para medir el tiempo de siembra y cosecha, y en su etapa de comerciante, necesit crear un sistema para fijar el peso, volumen y el valor de sus productos para intercambiarlos con los pueblos vecinos. Desde hace 5.000 aos la mayora de las civilizaciones han contado como lo hacemos hoy aunque la forma de escribir los nmeros ha sido muy diversa. -Sistemas de numeracin aditiva, en el que se acumulan los smbolos de todas las unidades, decenas, centenas,... necesarios hasta completar el nmero, como en el sistema egipcio, romano, griego, hitita, cretense, armenio y judo. -Sistemas de numeracin hbrida, en el que se combinan el principio aditivo con el multiplicativo. En los anteriores 30 se representaba con 3 smbolos de 10, pero con este nuevo sistema, se usa la combinacin del 3 y el 10. En esto se basaba el sistema chino clsico, asirio, armenio, etope y maya. Este ltimo utilizaba smbolos para el "1", el "5" y el "0", siendo este el primer uso documentado del cero. -Sistemas de numeracin posicional, en el que la posicin de las cifras nos indica si son unidades, decenas, centenas..., como el sistema chino y babilnico. El sistema de numeracin actual fue inventado por los Hindes en el siglo II, e introducido en Europa por los rabes a travs de Espaa, extendindose desde aqu al resto del mundo. Se trata de un sistema decimal, dado que emplea diez smbolos (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) y es de notacin posicional. El nmero cero es probablemente el nmero ms interesante. Today we want to present you to Auryn, a group that sounds everywhere. It is a group Spanish and British pop. The idea of forming a group belonged to Blas Cant. He wanted to form a group to capture all the musical ideas that it had. It joined with Dani Fernndez (both took part in Eurojunior) and with him and three more members, Carlos Marco, lvaro Gango and David Lafuente, formed the group whom they called Auryn being inspired in the name of a mystical lucky charm of The Never-ending story.

Esta Boy-Band, ha seguido los pasos de Los Beatles, y esperan ser tan grandes como ellos en Japn. La historia se ha repetido, ya que los cinco tuvieron un recibimiento similar en este pas, que el de sus abuelos del pop, hace 50 aos.Con respecto a su visita a Japn, 1D van a empezar a rodar aqu su pelcula en 3D. Drum and bass, also known as DnB, is a type of music that is hardly known in Spain. Drum and bass is widely known in England, it all started in 1990 when drum and bass was created out of a mix between break beat and jungle. Drum and bass has been a big part in my life I started listening to it when I was five years old (when I moved to Spain) and from the first moment when I heard it I loved it. Drum and bass has changed a lot since I was five years old, now I love dubstep but I still love drum and bass .People think that DnB is a lot like techno but its not, I hate techno, techno has no rhythm its just 1 beat repeated very fast, DnB has a fast beat but its NOT TECHNO and its got rhythm. A normal DnB tune has got 178 bpm (beats per minute) there are loads of artists that make DnB such as Aphrodite, benny page and TC.

Drum and bass, tambin conocido como DnB, es un tipo de msica que es poco conocido en Espaa. Drum and bass es muy conocido en Inglaterra, todo comenz en 1990 cuando el drum and bass fue creado a partir de una mezcla de break beat y jungle . Drum and bass ha sido una parte muy importante en mi vida, empec a escucharlo cuando yo tena cinco aos de edad (cuando me mud a Espaa) y desde el primer momento en que lo escuch me encant. Drum and bass ha cambiado mucho desde que tena cinco aos de edad, ahora me encanta dubstep pero todava me encanta drum and bass. Las personas piensan que DnB se parece mucho tecno pero no lo es, no me gusta el tecno, tecno no tiene ritmo es slo un sonido que se repite muy rpido, DnB tiene un ritmo rpido, pero no es el tecno y tiene ritmo. Una meloda de DnB normal, tiene 178 bpm (latidos por minuto) hay un montn de artistas que hacen DnB como Aphrodite, Benny Page y TC.

EL MLAGA C.F. HACE HISTORIA EN EUROPA

Los aficionados dan las gracias a su modesto equipo por hacerles soar. El Mlaga C.F. hizo historia al quedar cuarto en la liga BBVA 2011-2012 y clasificarse para la previa de la Champions League por primera vez en su historia, pero no queda ah la cosa. Una vez superada la previa contra el equipo griego del Panathinaikos, se encontr encuadrado en el grupo C de la fase de grupos junto a los belgas del Anderlecht, los rusos del Zenit y los italianos del Miln, en el cual pas como primero de grupo tras no perder ni un solo partido pero si empatar tres partidos y ganar los otros tres. Una de las 3 victorias tambin pasar a la historia, ya que gan el partido ante el equipo ms difcil de la fase de grupos, el A.C. Miln, ganando el partido 1-0 en La Rosaleda. El mximo goleador del equipo en la competicin fue Eliseu con 4 goles, por delante de Joaqun e Isco con 3 goles cada uno. Una vez pasada la fase de grupos el Mlaga se enfrent ante el Oporto en octavos de final, en la ida gan el Oporto 1-0 en Portugal, pero el Mlaga supo remontar este resultado en la Rosaleda ganando 2-0 con goles de Isco y Roque Santa Cruz y as pasar a cuartos de final. En cuartos de final el Mlaga se enfrent a los alemanes del Borussia Dortmund. En la ida en la Rosaleda el resultado fue de empate sin goles. En la vuelta en Alemania ni la suerte ni el arbitraje acompa al Mlaga y perdi 3-2 con dos goles del Borussia en el tiempo de descuento. Este fue el injusto final del Mlaga en su primera participacin en la Champions League. No obstante, todos los aficionados de la ciudad y de toda la provincia, entre los que se incluye un grupo de britnicos residentes en la costa del sol, que se hacen llamar Guiri Army estn orgullosos de la actuacin de su equipo y lo han demostrado acompaando a su equipo en sus desplazamientos por Europa. Ellos esperan que el Mlaga les siga haciendo soar en el futuro.

MLAGA C.F. MAKES HISTORY IN EUROPE

Supporters thanks their modest team for making them dream Malaga C. F. made history as it finished in 2011-2012 La Liga in fourth place and thus the club qualified for the Champions League play-off round for the first time in its history. However, this wasnt all. Once Malaga won the play-off round against Greek team Panathinaikos, it entered the group stage in Group C along with Belgium team Anderlecht, Russian team Zenit and Italian team Milan. In this group, Malaga finished in the first place after not losing a single game. The club only drew three games and won the other three. One of the 3 winning games will also make history as they won the match against the hardest team in the group stage, AC Milan, 1-0 at La Rosaleda Stadium. The teams top scorer in the competition was Eliseu with four goals, ahead of Joaquin and Isco with three goals each. Once the club overcame the group stage, Malaga faced Porto in the round of sixteen. In first leg, Porto won 1-0 in Portugal. However, the club was able to get over this result at La Rosaleda winning 2-0 with goals by Isco and Roque Santa Cruz and thus it qualified to the quarter-finals. In the quarter-finals, Malaga faced German team Borussia Dortmund. In the first leg at La Rosaleda the result was a goaless draw. In the second leg in Germany, neither the luck nor the referee were on Malagas side as the club lost 3-2, with Borussia scoring two goals in injury time. This was Malagas wrong end in its first appearance in the Champions League. Notwithstanding, supporters from the city and the province, including an important group of British expatriates living on the Costa del Sol and who called themselves Frente Guiri Foreigner Army are proud of their team performance as they have proved travelling with their team all around Europe. Todo comenz en el ao 2008 .La seleccin espaola se presentaba con pocas opciones alzarse con el titulo continental. La seleccin espaola, comenz su andadura en el torneo. Comenzaba en un partido que le enfrento a la seleccin rusa, Espaa dio un recital de toque y consigui un buen resultado de 4-1. La gente comenz a alabar el juego de la seleccin y su juego se conoci por todos. Espaa llegaba a cuartos como invicta junto a selecciones de la talla de holanda y Alemania. En cuartos se enfrento a italia, Espaa arroyo a italia el partido pero no consiguio ningn gol. El partido tuvo que solucionarse en la tanda penaltis. Estaba ah ''El Santo de Espaa'', Iker Casillas que consigui dos grandes paradas , gracias a eso Espaa pas de ronda. En simifinales no hubo ningn problema y Espaa arroyo a Rusia por 3-0. Llegaba el gran momento, Espaa se 66

enfrentaba a la todopoderosa Alemania. Espaa vapule a la seleccin Alemana con un gran juego. El momento del partido ocurri en el minuto 39, Torres superaba en velocidad a Lahm y con un toque stil bati por arriba a Lehman. En ese momento empezaba un ciclo histrico.

Espaa comenz con una dolorosa derrota, pero en los 2 siguientes encuentros consigi 2 importantes victorias que le dio el pase a octavos. En octavos se enfrentaba al Portugal de C.Ronaldo. Espaa consigui a base de trabajo y esfuerzo desactiv a la estrella portuguesa y acabo imponindose por 1-0 con un gol de Villa. En cuartos nos enfrentbamos a una seleccin dura como la 67

paraguaya. Espaa sigui fiel a su estilo de juego. Iker Casillas detuvo el penalti a Cardozo y casi seguido Villa dio el pase a las primeras semifinales de Espaa en un mundial. Las semifinales no se presentaban nada fcil, Alemania la rival de Espaa, haba barrido a todos sus rivales y adems con un buen juego similar al de la seleccin. El partido estuvo muy igualado con ocasiones para ambas selecciones, pero se decidi en un crner botado por Xavi que Carles Puyol se encarg de meterlo en el fondo de la red. Espaa sellaba el pase a una final de un Mundial... Llagaba el gran dia, el 11 de junio de 2010 en la ciudad de Johannesburgo, Espaa disputaba el partido ms importante de su historia. La seleccin sala con su once de gala y su rival, Holanda tambin. El partido estuvo marcado por el dominio espaol y la violencia excesiva de algn jugador holands. En los 90 minutos no se deci nada. Llegaba la prrroga y con ello ms nervios. Casillas se convirti en una pieza fundamental, pues le sac 2 manos a Arjen Robben. Llegaba el final de la prrroga todo el mundo estaba pensando en los penaltis, bueno todos menos uno... El gran Andrs Iniesta que en el minuto 116 a pase de Cesc meta el gol ms importante de su vida. Toda Espaa en ese momento saltaba de alegra. La seleccin Espaola iba a ganar el primer mundial de su historia, Iker Casillas levantaba el primer mundial que acreditaba a la seleccin la mejor seleccin del mundo, y ah no acababa todo...

Aunque parezca extrao poca gente confiaba en las posibilidades espaoles puesto que Espaa llegaba a la Eurocopa con la baja de su mximo goleador David Villa. Espaa comenzaba con un empate a 1 contra Italia, Espaa jug con falso 9. El resto de la fase de grupos fue coser y cantar para la seleccin. En cuartos, ya esperaba la Francia de Benzem y Ribery. El partido pareca complicado pero en el terreno de juego se demostr justo lo

contrario, Espaa pas por encima de la seleccin gala y acab imponindose por 2-0. En semifinales tocaba enfrentarse a Cristiano y compaa. El partido fue dursimo, mucha igualdad y ocasiones para ambos bandos. Llegaba la prrroga y en ese periodo de tiempo tanto jugadores como cuerpo tcnico pensaban ya en la otra tanda de penaltis. Acab la prrroga, era el momento de la muerte sbita. Casillas volvi a vestirse de hroe, detuvo un penalti a Joao Moutinho y Bruno Alves estrell el baln en el larguero. Espaa pasaba a la final de la Eurocopa 2012. En la final esperaba el mismo rival que la seleccin espaola haba comenzado la Eurocopa, la seleccin transalpina (Italia). El encuentro se antojaba complicado, pero slo fue un pensamiento, porque Espaa gan por 4-0 a Italia. En ese momento Espaa se converta en la nica seleccin en ganar 3 grandes ttulos consecutivos. Espaa ya se haba convertido en una seleccin que ser recordado por siempre, en el futuro hablarn de ella como una seleccin invencible, fuerte y sobre todo... UNA SELECCIN HISTRICA E INIGUALABLE.

El Motociclismo estilo libre es una modalidad de motociclismo en la que los competidores deben tomar saltos, realizar acrobacias en el aire y aterrizar prolijamente. Se realiza con motocicletas de motocross (motocross estilo libre; en ingls: freestyle motocross, abreviado FMX) o cuatrimotos, en cuyo caso se disputa sobre tierra y arena; y con motonieves, en cuyo caso la superficie es nieve. La principal competencia anual de motociclismo estilo libre son los X Games de verano (motocross) e invierno (motonieve). Red Bull X-Fighters es una serie de torneos de motocross estilo libre que recorre el mundo y atrae e los mayores exponentes de la disciplina. La Federacin Internacional de Motociclismo posee su propio torneo, el Campeonato Mundial de Motocross Estilo Libre. Existen tres formatos de disputa de motocross estilo libre. En sesiones, en las que cada competidor dispone de un perodo de tiempo para recorrer un campo lleno de saltos de distinto tipo y realizar varios trucos. En mejor truco consiste, cada competidor pasa por una serie de saltos (entre uno y tres) e intenta realizar los mejores trucos. En ambos casos, un jurado determina el puntaje en funcin 73

de la complejidad, la novedad, la variedad, la extensin y la prolijidad. En Speed & Style ("velocidad y estilo"), dos competidores se enfrentan en un circuito doble, uno con saltos y el otro sin ellos. Cada competidor recibe puntos por sus trucos, y al ganador de la carrera se le suma la diferencia de tiempo a su puntaje. Quien logra la mayor puntuacin gana la competicin. Estas competiciones suelen durar cerca de dos horas y pueden conbinarse con bmx.

The freestyle motorcycle is a form of motorcycle racing in which competitors must take jumps, perform stunts in the air and land the jump neatly. It is done with motocross bikes or ATVs, in which case they race over land and sand, and snowmobiles, in which case the surface is snow. The main annual competition for freestyle motorcycling are the Summer X Games (motocross) and winter (snowmobile).

Red Bull X-Fighters is a tournament series for freestyle motocross. They go touring the world and attract the greatest exponents of the discipline. The International Motorcycling Federation has its own tournament, the World Cup of Freestyle Motocross. There are three formats of freestyle motocross. In sessions, in which each competitor has a period of time to cover a field full of different types of jumps and perform various tricks. And the best trick is: each contestant goes through a series of jumps (one to three) and try to perform the best tricks. In both cases, a jury determines the score based on the complexity, novelty, extent and neatness. In Speed & Style, two competitors face a double circuit, one with jumps and one without them. Each competitor receives points for their tricks, and the winner of the race is added the time difference to your score. Whoever gets the highest score wins the competition. La cada de: La cada de un mito

Lance Armstrong naci el da 18 de Septiembre de 1971. Armstrong desde pequeo empez a despuntarla en el ciclismo ganando varios torneos. En el 92 Armstrong firm su primer contrato como profesional en el equipo Motorola. En 1995 Armstrong le diagnosticaron cncer de testculos, tambin en ese ao consigui ganar la ltima etapa del Tour de Francia, esta victoria fue muy recordada al ver a Armstrong sealando con los dedos al cielo en recuerdo de su compaero Fabio Casartelli. Armstrong cre una asociacin con su mismo nombre para ayudar a las personas que padecan de cncer.Armstrong se hizo leyenda al conquistar 7 ttulos del torneo ms prestigioso del ciclismo, el Tour de Francia. Este en el ao 2000 gan una medalla de bronce en los JJOO de Sydney quedando por delante del espaol Joseba Beloki, este ao tambin se le concedi el Premio Prncipe de Asturias de los Deportes. El 18 de julio de 2005 Armstrong anuncia en Georgia que se retirar del ciclismo profesional en junio, Armstrong se despeda del ciclismo como una verdadera leyenda, inigualable y un modelo a seguir. En el ao 2008 Armstrong confirmaba su vuelta al ciclismo profesional en el equipo Astana. En el ao 2011 Armstrong disputaba su ltimo Tour de Francia , tras pasar este ttulo Armstrong confirm su retirada definitiva. El 13 de junio de 2012 fue acusado de dopaje por la Agencia Antidopaje de Estados Unidos (USADA). El 23 de agosto de 2012 la USADA decidi finalmente retirarle sus siete ttulos del Tour de Francia por dopaje, adems de suspenderlo de por vida. El 22 de octubre de 2012 la UCI ratific la decisin de la USADA. El 17 de Enero de 2013 , en una entrevista con Oprah Winfrey, confirm que se haba tomado sustancias dopantes como el EPO, o testosterona. Uno de los momentos ms impactantes de la revista fue cuando Armstrong le dijo a Oprah el momento en el que le tuvo que decir a su hijo que dejara de defenderle, en ese instante a Lance se le saltaron las primeras lgrimas. 75

Al final de esa entrevista Armstrong era para todos el mundo una persona falsa y mentirosa, Armstrong tuvo una carrera plagada de xitos pero al final lo que contaba era que TODA la carrera de Armstrong haba sido todo una completa MENTIRA

In 1995 Armstrong was diagnosed with testicular cancer, but still managed to win the last stage of the Tour de France that year. This victory is well remembered by Armstrong fingers pointing to the sky in memory of teammate Fabio Casartelli. Armstrong created an association, called Livestrong, to help people suffering from cancer.Armstrong became a legend by winning seven titles in cycling's most prestigious event, the Tour of France. In 2000, he won a bronze medal in the Sydney Olympics ahead of Spanish cyclist Joseba Beloki, and was awarded with the Prince of Asturias Award for Sports. On July 18, 2005 in Georgia, Armstrong announced he would retire from professional cycling that June. Armstrong left cycling as a legend, and a unique model. In 2008, Armstrong returned to professional cycling on the Astana team. In 2011 Armstrong rode in his last Tour de France, after winning this title Armstrong confirmed his retirement. The June 13, 2012 he was accused of doping by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). On August 23, 2012 the USADA finally decided to withdraw his seven Tour de France titles for doping, and banned him from cycling for life. On October 22, 2012, the UCI confirmed the decision of the USADA. On January 17, 2013, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Armstrong confirmed that he had taken performance-enhancing drugs such as EPO and testosterone. One of the most shocking moments of the interview was when Armstrong told Oprah about the time he had to tell his son to stop defending him. In that moment Lance burst into tears. At the end of that interview Armstrong was seen by all the world as a false and deceitful person. Armstrong had a successful career, but at the end what counted was that Armstrong's entire career had been a complete lie.

La utilizacin de sustancias o de otros medios para mejorar la marca es tan antigua como el deporte de competicin. Se se sabe que ya en las antiguas olimpiadas de Grecia se utilizaban dietas especiales para fortificarse. Existen distintos tipos de dopaje: No solo drogas sino tambin analgsicos, dietas especiales y ahora tambin se han descubierto transfusiones de sangre que contiene ms glbulos rojos para aumentar la circulacin del oxgeno a travs del cuerpo. Hace ya unos aos en el Sur de Alemania se practicaba otro tipo de dopaje: Mediante el aborto. Mujeres abortaban a sus hijos ya que en el estado de embarazo es cuando la mujer desprende ms energa, globulos rojos, etc...

Hoy en da el deporte en el que ms se dopan los deportistas es el ciclismo debido a la gran resistencia y durabilidad que se debe tener en este deporte.

Esto significa superar obstculos que se presenten en el recorrido, tales como vallas, muros, paredes, etc. Los practicantes del parkour son denominados traceurs. THE MAN WHO WITNESSED AN INVASION

Dean Talboys is now a Brit expatriate living a quiet life in the Axarquia region in the province of Malaga. He has working experience in software designing and in defence, oil, retail and real estate sectors. Notwithstanding this, hes a writer too, and he has written and published one book on the subject of Stonehenge and he has also published several articles on ancient history including a theory on the original use of the Great Pyramid at Giza. However, this interview is not about Deans writing career but about his experience with war when he was working in the Middle East twenty years ago. Actually, today we will be talking to a man who witnessed the Kuwait invasion by the Iraqi troops. We will be asking him a few questions about how he felt, who he was with... H: Dean, how did you feel at the time and who were you with? D: I felt confused and didnt know what to do, I was with different people because they moved me around a lot for my safety. H: Did you ever move back to your home? D: Yes, I did and while I was there the soldiers came into my house. H: And what happened? D: I was in my house when I could hear them, so I hid under the bed and I was worried because I was having a cup of tea and I had left it on the table and it was still hot making it as if someone was living there.They didnt notice it and then they left H: And what happend in the end? Did you stay in your house? D: I left Kuwait and went and stayed with a friend for a few days. H: Have you ever been back to Kuwait after that happened? D: Yes, I have. I was there a while ago visiting a friend. H: So, what happened to all your possesions? D: Lots of my things were left behind but i still have some things. We will finish asking Dean one last thing H: Dean, have you ever been in any other situation like that invasion? D: No, I dont think I have ever been in one as bad. 109

No obstante, esta entrevista no trata sobre la carrera literaria de Dean sino sobre su experiencia con la guerra cuando trabaja en Oriente Medio hace veinte aos. De hecho, hoy hablaremos con un hombre que fue testigo de la invasin de Kuwait por parte de la tropas iraques. Vamos a preguntarle unas preguntas sobre cmo se senta, con quien estaba ... Un Escritor entre Nosotros

Muchos en el instituto conocemos a Rafael Alcolea como profesor de ingls, pero lo que muchos desconocis es su faceta como escritor de literatura juvenil. Ya ha publicado su primera novela: LEGADO INFINITO, y espera publicar la segunda este prximo verano. Actualmente trabaja en una tercera novela y un libro de relatos en Ingls. Vamos a preguntarle por esta otra faceta desconocida: C: Qu podemos encontrarnos en tu novela Legado Infinito? R: Legado Infinito es una novela de aventuras, misterio y elementos sobrenaturales. Bsicamente es una historia para entretener y pasar un buen rato leyendo. Algunos crticos dicen que es perfecta para llevar a la playa. C: Cmo se te ocurri la idea de la trama? R: Durante una visita al observatorio espacial en la Islas Canarias. Al ver aquellos enormes telescopios pens en cuantas cosas se podran ver con ellos. C: Cundo suele escribir? R: Casi siempre de noche. Cuando los personajes reales de mi vida duermen, y los ficticios se despiertan. Aunque a veces cuando una idea aparece escribo donde sea. C: Cunto tiempo tarda en escribir un libro? R: Depende de la historia, el pblico al que va dirigida, etc. Pero normalmente alrededor de un ao. C: Cmo te ves dentro de unos aos, como profesor o escritor? R: Me veo enseando Ingls y contando historias que sirvan para despertar la imaginacin y evadirte.

A Writer among us
Many in the school know Rafael Alcolea as an English teacher, but what many of you dont know is his role as a writer of young literature. He has already published his first novel: ENDLESS LEGACY, and expects to release the second novel this summer. Currently, he is working on a third novel and a book of short stories in English. Let's ask him about this other unknown occupation: C: What can we find in your novel Endless Legacy? R: Endless Legacy is an adventure, mystery story with some supernatural elements. Basically, it's a story to entertain and have a good time reading. Some critics say it is perfect to take to the beach. C: How did the idea of the plot? A: During a visit to the space observatory in the Canary Islands. Seeing those huge telescopes I thought they could explore anything with them. C: When do you usually write? A: I Almost always write at night. When the real characters of my life are asleep, and wake up the fictitious ones. Although sometimes when an idea appears, I write anywhere. C: How long does it take to write a book? A: It depends on the story, the audience to which it is addressed, etc.. But it usually takes about one year. C: How do you see yourself in a few years, as a teacher or a writer? A: I see myself teaching English and telling stories that serve to develop my students imagination.

Conoca muchas historias de fantasmas en la carretera. Pero la historia que le en un peridico me impact. Hablaba de una carretera fantasma. Se cuenta que hay una carretera comarcal en Paiporta, cerca de Valencia, dnde ocurren unos sucesos un tanto extraos. Y lo ms impactante es que en los ltimos meses ms de 10 personas han muerto all. Y no se sabe la razn exacta. Nadie se haba percatado de esta circunstancia ni se le haba dado importancia hasta que se ha producido el testimonio del seor Martn. Este hombre narra un suceso impactante que ha causado impacto y que ha hecho que se investiguen los hechos. El Sr. Ruiz vive en un chalet situado en la carretera mencionada. De este hecho deducimos que la conoce a la perfeccin.

Una noche conduca hacia casa de regreso del trabajo. Iba con mucha precaucin ya que en el ambiente reinaba una niebla muy espesa muy poco propia de aquella zona. Nunca haba visto una niebla tan densa. Nunca. Y, de repente, tuvo que dar un frenazo brusco. Se encontr ante un cruce en la carretera, pero un cruce...un camino que no haba visto nunca. l llevaba 10 aos viviendo all, pasando dos o tres veces al da por ally nuca haba visto ese camino. Reanud el trayecto con una sensacin de extraeza enorme, dudaba si realmente haba visto un cruce o era slo su imaginacin. Poda haber sido un efecto de la luna en la niebla pero es que estaba seguro que all haba un camino. Al da siguiente regres por el mismo camino, direccin al trabajo, y al pasar por el mismo punto un escalofro recorri su cuerpo: no haba ningn camino all. En aquel lugar slo haba un terrapln de 4 metros de altura. En ese momento se dio cuenta que si hubiera cogido el camino habra cado por l y se habra despeado. Gracias a que conoca el trayecto no lo cogi. El suceso le haba dejado muy confundido y lo coment a unos amigos suyos al llegar al trabajo. Todos rieron, salvo uno que palideci al instante: haba odo hablar de esa carretera, de la historia de un camino que apareca sbitamente en una noche de niebla densa, pero nunca la crey. Ahora todo pareca aclararse. Todo era cierto. Ellos han estado investigando en esa carretera han muerto ms de 10 personas despeadas pero lo peor es que no es el nico caso en todo el pas. Existen muchos accidentes en noches de niebla extraamente densa ser casualidad o ser que existen ms carreteras fantasmas?

I knew many stories of ghosts on the road. But the story I read in a newspaper shocked me. It spoke of a ghost road. It is said that there is a regional road in Paiporta, near Valencia, where few events that occured were strange. And most striking is that in recent months over 10 people have died there. And no one knows the exact reason. No one had noticed that fact had been given no importance until it has produced the testimony of Mr. Martin. This man tells a shocking event that has made an impact and has made an investigation of the facts. Mr. Ruiz lives in a villa on the road above. From this fact we deduce that he knows perfectly. La vida de Pi es una novela fantstica de aventuras escrita por el canadiense Yann Martel. En la historia, el protagonista Piscine Pi Molitor Patel (en honor a "Piscine Molitor" una piscina pblica de Paris), un joven de la India, de Pondicherry, indaga sobre la religin, espiritualidad y lo factible desde una edad temprana, y sobrevive 227 das en un bote junto con un Tigre de Bengala despus del naufragio de su barco en el Ocano Pacfico. La novela fue rechazada por al menos cinco casas editoriales de Londres antes de ser aceptada por Knopf Canada, que la public en septiembre de 2001. La edicin de Reino Unido gan el Premio Booker al ao siguiente. 'La vida de Pi' est dividida en tres secciones. En la primera, el personaje principal, Pi, un adulto, recuerda su infancia. Se le puso de nombre Piscine Molitor Patel por una piscina en Francia. OPININ PERSONAL: No haba escuchado nada sobre este libro hasta que vi el triler de la pelcula en televisin. Un amigo de Inglaterra me regal el libro como regalo de Navidad, as que decid leer el libro antes que ver la pelcula, porque como en muchas ocasiones, la pelcula no es tan buena como el libro. Al principio el libro me pareci bastante difcil y no enganchaba, ya que la primera parte es toda sobre Religin y espiritualidad, y seamos honestos, no es algo que me chifle. Pero persever y consegu llegar a la segunda parte del libro , y ya no pude dejar de leer. No he ledo un libro como este, que salte adelante y atrs en el tiempo tanto, pero el final es el que te atrapa. Te deja pensativo y hacindote preguntas, No voy a contar que pasa porque no voy a destrozarlo, pero de veras que lo recomiendo a todos aquellos que quieran un libro que les deje un buen sabor de boca., aunque tengan que ser pacientes y perseverar como hice yo. 116

REVIEW: LIFE OF PI by Yan Martel

Life of Pi is an adventure fantasy novel written by Canadian Yann Martel. In the story, the protagonist Piscine "Pi" Molitor Patel (in honor of "Piscine Molitor" a public pool in Paris), a young man from India, Pondicherry, explores religion, spirituality and feasible from an early age, and survives 227 days on a boat with a Bengal tiger after the sinking of his ship in the Pacific Ocean. The novel was rejected by at least five London publishers before being accepted by Knopf Canada, which published in September 2001. The UK edition won the Booker Prize the following year. 'Life of Pi' is divided into three sections. In the first, the main character, Pi, an adult, remembers his childhood. They named him Piscine Molitor Patel by a pool in France. He changed his name to "Pi" when he started high school, because he is tired of making fun of him with the nickname "Pissing Patel" ("Patel the frequently wet child"). His father owns a zoo in Pondicherry, which offers a lifestyle Pi relatively well and some understanding of animal psychology. Personal Opinion: I had never heard of Life if pi until I saw the movie trailer on T.V. I was given the book as a Christmas present from a friend of mine in England, and I decided to read the book before seeing the movie, because, as in many cases , the movies adaptation is never as good as the book. I found the book quite hard to get into because the first part is all about religion and spirituality, and to be honest taht isn't my cup of tea. But I persevered and once I got onto the second part, I couldn't put the book down. I have never read a book like it, it jumps around from past to present, but the ending is what makes the book. It leaves you hanging and wondering, I won't say what happens because that would spoil it, but I would certainly recommend the book to anyone who wants a good book, even though they may have to be patient and persevere with it like me.
