NPS ALCOHOL DELIVERY STRATEGY

To notify areas of the publication of the NPS Alcohol Delivery Strategy.

Chief Officers and Assistant Chief Officers with responsibility for substance
misuse are asked to: IMPLEMENTATION DATE:
• Note the contents of the strategy, particularly the recommendations 5 June 2006
for areas.
• Ensure that the strategy is drawn to the attention of all staff with EXPIRY DATE:

Working with Alcohol Misusing Offenders - A strategy for delivery has been Regional Managers
published. The Strategy fits within the Government’s over-arching Alcohol
Harm Reduction Strategy for England and complements the Prison Service AUTHORISED BY:
Alcohol Strategy, in order to create a coherent NOMS strategy. Sarah Mann

The Strategy aims to reduce alcohol related offending and harm to health, by
ATTACHED:
providing NPS with a coherent framework for tackling alcohol misuse that is
evidence based. It contains a number of actions for NPD and N/A
recommendations for areas to improve provision. In the absence of specific
funding to support implementation, the emphasis is on consolidating the work
already being done across NPS and building on best practice.

Hard copy versions of the strategy will be sent to all probation areas and an
electronic version is available on the NPS website
