Sub-Assemblies

Functional Requirements • Hoist of crane must be able to travel within an envelope of 20m (lateral) by 15m (vertical) 15m • Maximum capacity of 15 tons without failing 15 tons 20m Constraints • All components must not experience plastic deformation when assembled and under maximum loading • All components must achieve specified minimum FOS under the maximum end load of 15 tons .

Objectives • To design all important components of an overhead crane • To optimize all parts by minimizing their weight while satisfying all functional requirements and design constraints Target Areas for FEA and Optimization • Hoist sub-assembly • Interface between End Truck and Gross Girder • Interface between Cross Girder and Trolley .

9076 kg • Optimized Weight – 39.Optimization of Hook • Initial Weight – 65.4881 kg 15 tons Change in Weight for Hook Optimization .

Optimization of Cross Girder 15 tons • Initial Weight – 133280 kg • Optimized Weight – 10413 kg Change in Weight for Cross Girder Optimization .

Optimization of End Truck • Initial Weight – 2154.714 kg Change in Weight for End Truck Optimization .63 kg • Optimized Weight – 612.
