US to collaborate with India on developing global approach to combat terrorism
The US has pledged to collaborate with India on developing global approach to combat increasing terror threats. The Obama administration also asked the international community to take effective steps to eliminate sanctuaries and infrastructure that support terrorism. After the India-US Homeland Security Dialogue in Washington, a joint communique said, the two countries also agreed to enhance bilateral co-operation to combat terror financing and currency counterfeiting. Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde led a high-powered Indian delegation for the dialogue. In a statement after the conclusion of the talks, US Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said, terror threats today transcend national borders, impacting security and economic prosperity of the entire international community. During the meeting, Napolitano and Shinde reaffirmed the commitment of the two nations to work co-operatively on law enforcement issues, to combat common threats and improve bilateral cooperation through the development and application of innovative technology. 2.

International Day for Biological Diversity
Today is the International Day for Biological Diversity.The day is observed on the 22nd of May every year, to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. The theme this year is, 'Water and Biodiversity'. Our correspondent reports that it has been chosen to coincide with the UN designation of 2013 as the International year of water cooperation. The theme speaks of the important role of biodiversity and ecosystems for water security, and therefore for sustainable development. Water underpins human wellbeing and is absolutely necessary for food security, drinking, sanitation, economic activities, as well as securing eco-system services.
