Here’s to short work weeks. Cheers! SOCIAL  2013 Summer Special Olympics Games of North Dakota – Fri 5/31 & Sat 6/1, Davies High School. Friday includes a fireworks display with the athletes and Saturday’s opening ceremony includes the Parade of Athletes and the North Dakota Law Enforcement Torch Run. See more under Sports.  Alley Fair – Sat 6/1, Downtown Fargo. Alley Fair is a community gathering that will activate and transform the alleyway behind 300 Broadway for a day by bringing together some of Fargo’s best arts, music and food. We hope to design an environment that will encourage visitors to rethink urban landscapes. The event will be family friendly from noon-7pm with games, food, and other exhibits by local vendors. From 8pm until the event concludes, Alley fair will be 21+ featuring a live music performance by Post Traumatic Funk Syndrome. Tickets are only for the evening concert, all other Alley Fair afternoon activities are free of charge. Vote with your checkbooks and sign up ASAP. Sure does help the planning team.  Eco Chic Junk Market – Sat 6/1, 10am-5pm, Eco Chic parking lot. The area's only junk and repurposed event. Come find one of a kind repurposed and vintage pieces. Rumors of cupcakes from Libby's Cupcakes, Etc. (if you've never tried these they are AMAZING!) and much more! Inspired by actual events, this suspense thriller follows notorious contract killer Richard Kuklinski from his early days in the mob until his arrest for the murder of more than 100 men. Appearing to be living the American Dream as a devoted husband and father, in reality Kuklinski is a ruthless killer-for-hire.  Classic Film Series: How To Marry A Millionaire – Thu 6/6, 7:30pm. Starring Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall. $8 PLAINS ART MUSEUM  Plains Art Museum announced the launch of Blue Star Museums, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 1,800 museums across America to offer free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Leadership support has been provided by MetLife Foundation through Blue Star Families.

YOUNG PROFESSIONALS NETWORK  YPN Goes to the Redhawks – Tue 6/4, 6:30pm social, 7:05pm first pitch. The YPN wants to take you out to the ballgame! Join the YPN as we partake in America’s favorite pastime. As an added bonus, it’s Duck Dynasty night at the Redhawks so feel free to dress in your fanciest camouflage. SPORTS  FM RedHawks vs. Sioux Falls Canaries – Thurs 5/30, 7:02 pm – Community Volunteer Appreciation Night.  The Special Olympics North Dakota (SOND) State Summer Games will be held at Davies High School on Fri 5/31 and Sat 6/1. SHOUT OUT  Even if the weather turns out to be not-so-great, please consider stopping by and supporting the Alley Fair event. I give them a lot of credit for taking the time, effort and cost to organize a creative event like this for our metro. There are a lot of cool things being developed by our residents and showing our support will keep that going.  Once again, Microsoft Fargo is hosting a DigiGirlz camp! This 3-day camp is a great way to get girls in middle and high school interested in technology. 2013 Camp is June 11-13, girls must be 13 at the time of application. DigiGirlz is free to attendees. Watching the trailer for The Sapphires (showing at The Fargo Theatre) reminded me a little of one of my favorite movies, The Commitments. If you haven’t seen it, you should give a try someday.

Rev your engines and support the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Red River Valley. This ride is the largest ride event to benefit a Ronald McDonald House in the U.S! Last year, over 1,500 bikes road around scenic lakes country to benefit RMHC. Come for the whole weekend and see bands like Tripwire, Face for Radio and more.
