Focus. Visualize the power of focus. You may remember the games we played in childhood with the magnifying glass. One of them was to catch the rays of the sun and bring them all together into one bright point of light, one focus point. This single point of concentrated sunlight could burn through almost anything — a withered leaf, a green twig, sheets of paper, the bark of a tree, your skin. Imagine how incisive your mind would be if it were able to achieve a similar focus. Meditation, the art of the gurus, can build our capability to attain better focus. The gurus say our mind is filled with thoughts, or snippets of thought moving around, mostly aimlessly. These thoughts act as a barrier to receiving energy from all the space around us. If we could somehow slow down and remove all these thoughts that get in the way, we will be able to draw in additional energy into our body. This added energy can help us feel fresher as we carry out our tasks throughout our day. The gurus say this can be accomplished through meditation. By meditating every day, you can get more energy than you would ever have without meditation. If we do not meditate every day, we are likely to feel tired and exhausted as the day wears on. This is simply because the energy we get from sleep alone is not enough for our daily tasks. How you can use these various meditation practices to help you realize your life's purpose, and attract what you want in your life including the right partners for your life's journey, the job experiences and monetary experience you desire. These practices help you to be in control of your life's Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 13
experience rather than being a victim of your life's experience. The first type of meditation we will practice on is the full awareness of your breathing, or the “watch your breath meditation.” Gurus consider the breath as the life force, also known as ‘prana’. If we can learn to focus on this life force and control its movement through our breathing, we will be able to forget or remove all other thoughts. By removing all the other thoughts, we are able to calm our mind and build peace inside our body. Once we have learned to observe our breathing, we will move on to develop our focus power on objects. There are many benefits to developing our focus powers such as the ability to think more clearly, the ability to write more clearly, and the ability to understand the world around us more precisely. As you become more adept in using your focus power on objects, you will find yourself able to pick an object or character and develop a fuller understanding of its every aspect. You can create and alter that object in a multitude of ways once you understand it more fully. You can twist, turn, and zoom into the object. In my work as an author, the technique helps me clarify my ideas, characters, story and plot. Or, it allows me to brainstorm and come up with interesting ways in which to turn my stories. It is like dreaming but at a much higher efficiency and with a higher recall. This is often what happens in meditation. You get new insights from a subconscious that has become more powerful. These insights feel like a boon granted by the Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 14
universe. One can observe new divine insights about an object during the dreamlike or subconscious state of meditation. Meditation, say the ancients, is the means of getting new ideas from the universe into the human knowledge base. But, you may ask, if these ideas come while being in a dreamlike or subconscious state, how can they be remembered after having returned to the conscious state? As you continue practicing meditation, you will build your capability to remember ideas generated from this subconscious state. This capability helps you remember the object and its properties, and the many ways in which you observed it, after you come out of the meditative state. As an author I want to write about this object or thing in my story, therefore, it is important that I remember what I have learned after I break out of the meditative state. One of the ways you can increase your recall is to meditate for shorter time periods. When you meditate for a longer time you will have more things to remember. As your memory and recall abilities increase, you can remember more from longer sessions of meditation. But while you are still new to the practice, small short sessions are more effective. A longer session may lead to deep sleep, and result in dreams that are forgotten by the time you return to the conscious state. Personally, I prefer one hour long meditation sessions. Some of my longer sessions can go up to five hours, and some of my shorter sessions are as short as five minutes. I will later also discuss a special technique of the “one-moment meditation.” Usually, the longer sessions are more effective when thinking about objects that I already understand a lot about. I tend to Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 15
use longer sessions when observing stories or plots as compared to individual objects. There are other types of meditation such as sleep meditation. Sleep meditation is primarily used for relaxing the mind completely. This type of meditation is not used for observing or understanding but rather for gaining energy to perform other tasks during the day. Sleep meditation is one of the easiest types of meditation to perform. All you have to do is lie back in a relaxed position and focus on your breath. The idea is to remove all thoughts from the mind. If any thought comes – and there will be many – send it away by telling it to come back later as you are currently busy observing your breathing pattern. Typical types of thoughts that come to the mind at this time are thoughts about interactions with other people and responsibilities, as well as thoughts about things or work that you need to do. For most people these types of thoughts tend to take up most of their mind's energy. A recommended method for reducing these things that drain energy is to start writing down all your tasks and using that as a checklist for completion. Whether you use calendars, index cards or other tools for recording your tasks, it is up to you. The important thing is that once you have written these tasks down, you must stop maintaining them in your mind. Instead of a multitude of things to keep in mind, you’ll only have one thing to remember— that is, to use the paper or the tool in which you have recorded the tasks. Any tool is useless if you record what you need to do in it but do not refer back to it later to actually do the tasks. It’s the same thing with meditation. All of the meditation techniques I am describing here are similar to the usage of such tools. If Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 16
you just keep on reading about meditation but do not actually practice it, then it will be useless for you. Anyway, the use of appropriate tools to record your thoughts will free up your mind and allow you to focus your full attention on only one thing — the task at hand. You can proceed to do that and, once you’re done, you can go back to your checklist and proceed to the next task. Meditation can also be used for simple tasks such as cleaning your room in the most efficient manner. For example, if you are in an extremely messy room where there are clothes, books, electronics, bedding, groceries and food, paperwork and other random junk lying around. Looking at the room can make cleaning everything up too daunting a task. This task just overwhelms us, making us feel lazy … and we fail to clean up the room. So, we need a technique. The technique that we are going to follow is called the “open eye meditation”. We are going to focus on the single task of solving the problem of cleaning up the room. Why should we resolve the problem of cleaning up our room? What is the best manner in which we can solve this problem? How are we going to clean up the room? When we cause our mind to focus on questions like these, it will immediately start finding solutions to cleaning up this room and create motivation for us to start doing it. Our mind, when focused, becomes a very powerful device for solving any problem in the world. Remember the magnifying glass? Once you do the open-eye meditation, asking the right questions about the task at hand, the exact manner in which you are going to clean this room in the most efficient way will start becoming obvious. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 17
Immediately our mind will realize things, such as “the first thing to do is to organize the clothes; that will leave a lot of extra room allowing me to make it easier to see what else needs to be cleaned up.” Perhaps there is a lot of trash around the room and simply walking around the room with a trash bag in your hand will allow you to clean up a large chunk of the room. Before you know it, you have already cleaned up the room. Tidying up the room is just a simple example. You can apply the “open-eye meditation” to any task that you need to get finished. The technique is a way to set your mind towards action mode, instead of becoming overwhelmed by the task at hand and going into sleep mode. It works best for finishing real-world tasks. Another technique you will learn is the “third person observation meditation”. It is a way of improving your understanding of yourself and of the events and occurrences that happen around you. In the third person observation meditation, we focus on ourselves in the third person. We get into a meditative state and imagine that we are not ourselves but our image that is standing outside our body and observing its daily actions. This “other-self” image will observe everything we do in the course of our day. It may notice things like we use up so much time watching television, or that we easily get angry at other people. Observing ourselves in the third person is one of the best ways in which we can become a better person. We can begin to understand how we are behaving towards other people and what they feel about it. We can begin to understand how we tend to spend the time in our day. We can begin to understand the various ways in which we interact with our environment and other people. For example, if our boss told Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 18
us to do something, then did we follow directions or not? What was the cause of our inability to follow directions? Such questions can be answered very accurately when we understand ourselves in third person. The more we understand ourselves in third person, the better our relationships with other people get as well. We begin to understand why or how we are causing annoyance to them or if they are being unfair to us in certain ways and how we can deal with those situations. Meditating upon our day in third person allows us to become better problem solvers as well. Our overall focus improves and we begin to understand more clearly the goals in our life that we are currently pursuing and working so hard for. It helps us understand which of our activities contribute towards the goal we are trying to achieve in life and which of our activities are wasteful and do not help or lead to our objectives. The actual technique taught to us by the gurus for this type of meditation is to live the day forwards and then backwards in full. We will continue to discuss this technique in detail when we talk about rebirth therapy. That’s for later. Now, it is time to start.

we must treat everything with respect and care. It gives us our sense of purpose. Our happiness leads to the happiness of the people around us. However. It allows us to create focus and do much better at the practice of meditation as well. The space in which we live is composed of matter. Therefore. On the other hand. you should banish all worry from your mind while meditating. This is the state of mind we must maintain while meditating. especially our family and friends we suddenly become important. when it comes to society. The presence of worry is a sign of lack of knowledge. We are even more important for the people we see every day such as our coworkers. We are insignificant in the context of the whole universe. Matter is found everywhere throughout the known universe. This kind of thinking allows us to free ourselves of worries and become happier. friends and the people around us. family. because we are so important to our society. Meditating upon the vastness of the whole universe in all time we realize our being very small and unimportant in the whole scheme of things. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 20 .Chapter 1 – Relaxation Meditation and Mindfulness Space and time The most important aspects of meditation are the dimensions of space and time. This means that all our purposes and worries are not significant in the context of the whole universe. We are merely a small part of this huge universe. We may treat this duality of significance and insignificance with both respect and honor. which is to make a change for the positive in our micro-environment.
We will come back to these questions when we talk more about recalling sequences and going back and forward in time. These include halflotus posture. For beginners the purpose is relaxation. Instead you need to focus on and observe the breath with your full attention. When we are overworked or exhausted our breath tends to become uneven. The proper techniques for breathing are essential to bringing about a successful and calming meditative effect. The first thing about breathing is to understand that you should never force your expiration while meditating. As we breathe inwards. Once we are observing our breath we might notice that it is still uneven. In order to get to this stage of full attention and breathing observation. you should inhale and exhale three times allowing the major channel to clear up. We should then focus our attention to those parts of the body Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 24 . We should look out for when the breath hits stoppages. This will allow the breath to get to all the minor channels as well. it could be that some parts of our body are stressed. which result in an uneven breathing. Or. It’s just like there are major muscles and then there are smaller muscles surrounding them. it may be necessary to smooth out your breathing. breathe 20 to 30 times quickly and deeply. To breathe slowly and deeply. After that. Inside the body there are two types of breath channels: the major channels and the minor channels.the rhythm of your breathing as you inhale and exhale without forcing it. Once these preparatory exercises are performed then one can continue into focus meditation of the breath. Breathing Breathing is perhaps the most important part of meditation. we will be able to carefully observe the breath going to the different body parts.

A clean air duct system from our nose to our lungs and deeper into our body allows us to live both more healthily and more peacefully. One technique for clearing up the nasal tract is to breathe in deeply and hold the breath inside the stomach and use your thumb and index finger to close your nostrils. such as pouring water through one side of your nose and out the other. It adds to the comfort of our body. Good singers often practice cleansing their nasal and oral parts. It clears up our senses and our voice. This process is known as ‘netikriya’. Hold your breath inside the body for 32 seconds and then slowly release Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 26 .There are also other methods of clearing out the air ducts in our body. Doing so also helps one achieve meditative state faster as the mind is able to focus easier.
The breathing observation process is also known as a process of awareness. We will later discuss other processes. But it is crucial at the start that we learn to become fully aware before we can begin to truly understand and recall. inhaling and exhaling more quickly as needed. In yoga. Focusing on the task at hand of only observing the breath allows you to build focus and get the ultimate relaxation and awareness. Don’t worry. By closing our eyes and becoming aware. you will not be the first person to do it: many professional singers do the same. and our inside and our outside are all part of one whole. we go beyond our bodily boundaries and feel as if we are part of the same universe. This process of becoming aware allows us to become one with the universe. Going back to the observation of breath. The body will warm the breath when it is held inside and this warm breath when slowly exhaled will clean the nasal tract. you roar as loudly as you can to clear up all the tracts. One can also experiment with faster rhythms. Tell your mind to relax — you will resolve those issues at a later time and there is no rush to do everything immediately. Simply speaking. such as the process of understanding and the process of recall using meditation. At the same time if any thoughts come to the mind. you should brush them aside and let them go. The only thing that is changing is the life energy that is moving around us as we Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 27 . Alternate this with the other nostril.
inhale and exhale. We then begin to receive the life energy from all around us, including from the sky, from the ground, from below our feet and from above through our crown - the top of our head. We will talk about the crown chakra along with the other chakras of the body. Receiving energy from all around us — from above us, from below us — empowers us and energizes us to perform the daily tasks. Our awareness increases and our uncertainties decrease. We begin to realize that we are a very small and tiny particle of the universe and our problems are not important in the whole scheme of things. Yet, by being even the smallest particle in the universe we contribute to the positive energy of the whole universe. We are like a little white light in the universe. Such is the power of our breath.
Signs of a disturbed mind – Irregular Breathing
An important aspect of our breath is that we can use it to assess whether our mind is disturbed or not. Irregular breathing is often the result of a disturbed mind. The observable signs of a disturbed mind are sadness, bitterness, restlessness of the body, a lack of coordination in the body, and irregular breathing. By closely observing our breath, we can notice if our incoming breath is longer or our outgoing breath is longer. Our incoming breath is longer when we are excited, ready to go and happy, and our outgoing breath is longer or more pronounced when we are exhausted or unhappy. Through meditation and close observation of our breath we can bring ourselves to peace of mind. We can recognize the sources of our troubles better. Now, watch your breath. Is it regular or irregular? Are you breathing-in more or breathing-out more?

Closing the senses (known as Indriyas)
In traditional yoga there are 10 senses – 5 input and 5 output senses. The input senses are smell, taste, sight, touch, and listen. The output senses are elimination, reproduction, motion, grasp, and speech. The 10 senses connect our internal world with the external world. In basic meditation practice, we must close the 10 senses and focus on our breath and our inner being. We close our eyes so we do not see. We remove any noise and sound, any special smells etc. We become motionless. We do not chant or talk. We do away with any source of distractions, so we should attend to all bodily necessities such as the need to use the bathroom or drink water, etc., prior to beginning meditation. The 5 input senses are known as Gyanindriyas (or Jannendriyas = Knowledge + Senses) as they are related to our knowledge. We understand and learn about the world through our input senses. The 5 output senses are known as Karmaindriyas (Karma or Doing + Senses) as they are related to our actions. We act to express ourselves and our understanding of the world. We act to give and take from the world. As we go through our daily lives, our senses are actively engaging with the world and, as a result tiring our bodies. When we close the senses and begin to observe the breath, the brain becomes free. It is able to relax. Being mindful is the act of carefully observing our senses in our daily lives. Watch what you say to people, how you say it, what you do with your time and so on. A relaxed mind is better capable of watching the world and understanding it. This is the key to a successful life.
Let Your Mind See
Through meditation, as you become more mindful in your daily life, you will begin to realize you are independent of what you know and what you do. Your knowledge and your actions are part of your senses; they are part of you but they are not you. Your 10 senses are your tools. They are subordinate to you, but you should not be subordinate to them. You will not feel sad or angry about petty things in life as you begin to become more in control of your senses. Your heart, your desires, your fears will come under your control through proper practice of meditation. You will become more aware of your true nature. So, what is your true nature? For this let us begin by understanding the mind. The mind has four functions that direct your 10 senses. The four functions are 1) Habits, 2) Wisdom, 3) Ego, and 4) Desire. These four together determine how you use your senses. When you desire or want an ice cream, then you look around for ice cream. Your wisdom might tell you that eating ice cream is bad for your health causing you to not go buy the ice cream. This is where habits are important because they can determine whether you listen to your wisdom or your desire. Through meditation, you can become more mindful of your senses and thus more in control of your habits, ego, and desires. By carefully observing your senses in your daily life, you can better understand the state of your mind and how its four functions are interacting together. You will then be able to use your intelligence to control your mind and thus your bodily actions. Sitting still and meditating will allow your brain to become more and more aware of your inner being and your state of mind. You will become more firm in your decisions. you decide to do a task, you will be able to complete it without being distracted as easily. Through careful observation of the senses, yogis have determined that the indriyas are not reliable instruments. These portals to the physical world are easily distracted and they have trouble experiencing the absolute truths, realities, and the self. Our sense perceptions are not perfect. We misspeak, misunderstand, mishear, mistake what we see, and so forth. Simple worldly things like fog or dust can blind our sense of sight. The functioning of the senses can get mixed in some people with certain disorders. More generally, everybody has varying abilities in vision, hearing, taste and the other senses. The bottom line is, we cannot … we should not … rely completely on our senses. This means that if we must become more aware of everything around us, we need to go and seek ourselves inward. We need our inner faculties to cross-check our senses before making any conclusions. We should become mindful of the time and place in which events occur. Our chances of making a mistake are far less when we are continuously observing a situation rather than when we are seeing only a snapshot of the situation. We should understand that the whole truth is beyond our individual senses can apprehend. There is no need to become unnecessarily emotional due to a sensation as people often do. As you observe yourself in daily life and think deeper and deeper about how each action is influenced, you will quickly realize for yourself the 4 functions of the mind (known as manas) to be 1) Habits 2) Wisdom 3) Ego 4) Desire. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 31
Example 1: Why are you walking? It is because you need to move. Why are you moving? It is because you need to get somewhere. Why do you need to get somewhere? It is because you need to get an ice cream. Why do you need to get an ice cream? It is because you have a desire to get an ice cream. Example 2: Why are you yelling? It is because you want to make person X feel bad. Why do you want to make person X feel bad? It is because he hurt your ego for some reason. Do you get the idea? The awareness of your ten senses will lead to awareness about the functions of your mind. By understanding how the four functions of your mind play with each other, you can learn to be their referee. You can learn to not allow them to suppress one another but play nicely with each other. You can bring coordination to your mind and remove conflicting emotions. This will allow you to be happier and more successful as well as to detach your mind from petty problems of life while still working to fix them. To make this possible you must do 3 things 1) Make intelligent decisions 2) Do not give up on your decisions 3) Practice not being attached to the fruits of your decisions and attribute them to the universe or to god whichever you believe in The practice of meditation can make this whole process easier. Remember the universe or the supreme god is our master. Like every particle of the universe we are connected to it. Our soul or inner being is the master of our intelligence. Our intelligence is the master of our mind, which has the 4 functions I just described. Our mind is the master of our body and its 10 senses which I just described. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 32
Let your mind observe your breath and begin to remove all thoughts. Rather. The intelligent men and women make the world a better place because they live not for their senses. and you alone are not responsible for the whole universe. but for the society. You must set aside appropriate time and resources for the achievement to happen. don’t let your mind decide from among the things your senses may want. And at this time. but in making better what he is a part of. the world. close your senses and open the eye of the mind. So take one or two deep breaths and relax. Your full attention is at observing your breath go in through your body and out. You are a miniscule and tiny particle of the universe and everything you think that matters so much is tiny in the perspective of the universe. Removing all thoughts So go ahead.So. Everything is well and part of something greater. Now make a firm decision to not let any other thoughts bother you for however long you plan to meditate. It is all as it is meant to be. tell it you are busy observing your breath closely and you will come back to deal with that thought later after your meditation is over. the universe and the supreme god. Anytime a thought comes to your mind. Let your intelligence coordinate the 4 manas. let your senses do what your mind instructs. Your ability to make firm decisions in life is your key to successfully achieving everything you desire in life. The intelligent human realizes he is part of something much greater than himself and his happiness lies not in challenging what he is a part of. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 33 . you have decided to focus only on your breath and send away all other thoughts. Submit your intelligence to the world and the universe in which you live.
Your body is relaxing and healing itself. to talk.” Any other thought that comes. it won’t bother. If it is completely unbearable well then you are going to have to wake up and try again later. Once a decision is made. And don’t worry at all about forgetting it because if it is important. to think. Similarly. tell all your other thoughts to come back after meditation is over. Relaxing and rebooting As you continue to observe the breath without forcing it in or out. then do it with full focus with all the time and resources you’ve allocated to that task. just tell it to come back at a later time. to drink and many others but you are not using any of those abilities at this time. and the more unbearable the distraction then Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 34 . removing thoughts is very closely related to the closing of the senses. just ignore it. Realize that sitting still is the same thing as not using the ability to move around. you will notice it getting smaller and smaller. If there is any pain or itching or tickling. If it is not important. The only thought you are holding onto is “I am observing my breath. This is the key to successful meditation as well as accomplishing any other task in life. You tell the person to call back after the meeting is over. You should not be thinking of anything other than your breath. You are focused on the single task of observation of the breath with your mind’s eye. It is like if you are in a meeting you don’t take phone calls. I feel it go in and through my body and out. Your senses should be closed and your mind’s eye should be open. Realize you have the ability to walk. Thus. then it will come back.
the more breath you will have. The spirals of energy will grow bigger and bigger as you become more connected with the rest of the universe. Feel the energy aura develop around you. That is why it is so important to send them away when you are trying to reboot your body. and let that aura expand such that you can no longer tell the universe from your body. Ideally. in a packet of white life energy. breaking. This process should be very relaxing and ultimately the breath should get very small or disappear. You will need this extra energy for more advanced types of meditations and it will also energize you through the day in all your other tasks. but just continue to observe it. There will be no boundaries between your still body and the universe. So. both nostrils should be clear. smooth and even out. the energy of the universe is all yours and you will be protected inside its sphere. Dreaming is actually a tiring and energy-consuming process. The meditation mudra (locked hands as in the section when we talked about posture) will allow the energy to cycle smoothly in spirals through your body and around it. This flow of energy is intimately connected with your chakras. Then. Having no thoughts means your sleep will not be bothered by dreams.the more serious the damage your body is trying to heal as you meditate. The more thoughts you have and the more senses are open. As you observe it. The initial breath maybe fast or slow. it will become stable. now let’s talk about the chakras and the free energy flow through the body and their relation to the 10 senses. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 35 . not so smooth or uneven. Thoughts are a barrier to your ability to receive energy from the universe. Be mindful and keep the mind’s eye open and focused on observing the inner self and the breath that brings the good energy in and carries the bad energy out.
and Chakras We talked a bit about space and time at the beginning.Heat. meditation can be more effective if done Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 36 . Next. and so again the importance of having mindfulness through time came about. The temperature of the meditation place is very important and it should be first and foremost comfortable. or take off. extra clothing to make you comfortable. Then we discussed this idea of our senses not being perfect. You may put on. energy.
If you recall.” Chakras literally mean “wheels” and these Chakras are the centers of “Prāṇa” which means the “life force” or “vital energy”. Like our breath. Heat is one of the many types of energies that form around us. The concept is the same for all of these energies — whether it is the stabilization of the blood flow. the energy around us also stabilizes and becomes smooth as we stay still in our environment. The heat energy from our body and clothing will significantly contribute to the energy aura around us. but are believed to be part of the "subtle body". because the lower temperature prevents us from falling asleep and helps cool down the mind faster. The life energies in and around our bodies are closely related to our “chakras. Chakras correspond to vital points in the physical body. This helps the mind determine the areas where not enough blood is reaching and fix the problems with our body. As our feel is stabilized so is our blood flow. Karmendriyas consist of Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 37 . but let’s first understand them from the perspective of the five output senses — the Karmendriyas I discussed earlier. This energy aura dissipates if we set our room into slightly cool temperature. depending on where you go. We can then use this dissipation together with our exhalation to remove the negative energies from within. There are many philosophies and books on Chakras. the heat aura around us. These wheels symbolize the endless rotation of energy around the energy centers of the body. allowing our body to get more relaxed.in a slightly cooler (but not cold) room. thus healing us further. or our breath. The locked fingers will allow us to stabilize our sense of feel and the energy associated with it.
It is used for speech and is represented by the element “Ether”. They relate to the lower five chakras. Finally. as our heart is located to the left of the center. and is used for reproduction. the fifth chakra representing the Karmendriyas is the throat.elimination. our abs or our navel. The fourth chakra is the central chakra of the 7 chakras. how does all this talk about chakras help in our meditation? Since all of these output senses are sequential. It is materially driven and used for elimination. let it go. You might have heard of the saying “having a strong belly” as a reference to being strong willed. It is represented by the element “fire”. It is the cause of sensual drive. motion. It is represented by the element “Air” and is responsible for respiration. and speech. you may ask. we need to let go of our physically active senses. grasp. in the center of the body. To completely relax our mind. This region is the seat of our will power. It represents our love-compassion drive. It is known as the element “earth”. It is our power drive. mentally grasp it. It is above and behind the genitals. Above it is our core. we can explore them in a systematic sequence during meditation. and then cast it away. and it is used for digestion. reproduction. to imagine rolling it up into a ball. We want our mind to become fully aware of each active sense. It gives us our spiritual drive. It is located at the right of the physical heart. But. Above it is the chakra whose element is “water”. The lowest chakra is just above the anus. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 38 .
Your body should be satisfied and relaxed when you’ve let go of your needs. taste. discuss. Similarly. If we are successful in this. The attention will automatically shift from the output senses to the input senses as you let go of the output senses. Your seventh chakra is the crown of your head. motion. Next we think about motion or fire chakra and we let it go. at this stage. we think about speech or ether chakra and we let that go as well. Our emotions are put to rest. or any other relationships. If we force our mind to become aware of the elimination process or the earth chakra. Neither of these last two chakras is associated with any one element. it becomes possible during meditation. all you have to do is to continue focusing on the breath and sending thoughts away. The ability to shut down these subconscious thoughts is the key to allowing oneself to get greater relaxation.Your mind’s focus has slowly moved up from your lower body to your upper body and into your third eye. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 40 . Doing this is the easiest way for you to clear out subconscious thoughts and focus automatically on the third eye when the breath settles. Your focus will naturally shift from your breath into the center of your third eye. feel the mind chattering. these thoughts become your dreams and are generally beyond your control. or feel other sensations like itching or your body curing itself. you will become more aware of any thoughts that are coming to your subconscious mind. Remember. Again. During the state when you have turned off your output senses and are working on your input senses. you may see visions. While this is not possible during normal sleep. Surrounding sounds like someone whispering or the wind rustling might become amplified as more of your brain is freeing up to process the input senses. You can safely continue to meditate through these. Let your body continue to send away these thoughts and continue to relax. During normal sleep. ignore them and continue. You will find yourself capable of actively shutting down these subconscious thoughts. You do not need to be scared of a scary vision that might show up or some strong itching that might happen. telling them that you are busy in the process of meditation. hear sounds. A scary vision during sleep is well known as a nightmare but it is harmless. As you continue to focus on the center of your third eye. Your breath will have become very small and settled into your third eye.
Next. But in reality. Next. set aside the ability to hear. and then you set aside that ability. it is actually coming from the earth chakra. set aside the ability to see. the Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 41 . set aside the ability to taste. but rather. You are not trying to smell anything in particular. to become aware of the sense of smell itself. However. This will assist you in relaxing. Next. The sense of hearing automatically makes us think of the ears. The sense of sight is closely associated with the eyes. Set aside the ability to smell. We will walk through each of the input senses and work to set aside those abilities during meditation. but more importantly. the sense of sight operates from the third chakra – the fire chakra. You are letting go of the awareness of the ability to touch. It is not a question of what object you might be feeling. set aside the ability to touch. where the physical taste buds are located. the senses with which you are experiencing. the sense of touch operates from the fourth chakra – the air chakra. But in reality. What you are really doing is setting aside visions that you might get. Notice that we normally think of the ability to smell to be coming from the nose. Next.Be aware not only of the object you are experiencing. You become aware of the ability to smell. The sense of taste automatically draws your attention to the mouth. where the physical vision is located. But in reality. You are letting go of the awareness of the ability to see. the sense of taste operates from the second chakra – the water chakra. But in reality. Note your eyes should already have been closed. The sense of touch naturally brings your attention to the skin. You are letting go of the awareness of the ability to taste. but of the sense of touch itself.
As a short bonus to end this chapter I will now give you the one moment meditation technique as well. You are letting go of the awareness of the ability to listen just as you let go of speech. Sit up straight but don't be rigid. The one moment meditation Perhaps you have an easy time doing meditation at the getaway. We are going to begin the one moment meditation with one minute and then narrow down to one moment. but of the sense of listening itself.sense of touch operates from the fifth chakra – the ether chakra. You can now begin to become aware of your greater creator reality. You will be more aware and less thoughtful. How to meditate in a moment . If you have never achieved this state before. Tell others that you will be busy. Put your hands in any position that is balanced. It is not a question of what you might be hearing. You can begin to connect with the super conscience. or just need a good idea. you may need to meditate to bring a stressful conference. You will find yourself to have gotten more relaxation through a few minutes of meditation than you do with many hours of sleep. the same as where your sense of speaking originates. or are resting on easy before going to sleep for some reason such as anger. however. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 42 . For example. This will be the subject of another chapter. before speaking to an audience. You are choosing not to listen to anything going on around. you are not able to achieve that during your daily life. You will now be in a state of deep meditation. You can also just wake up after keeping yourself in this state for some time. you will have a wow moment when you do.
Now slowly reduce that minute to 30 seconds and then to 15 seconds – ultimately reducing this to a single breath in one moment. Once you train yourself to feel this way as you did after one-minute meditation in a single moment. Do not cheat and take longer than a minute to do this. Focus on your breathing for a minute. It is okay to smile.symmetrical. you can meditate at any moment. As you open your eyes realize how you felt. If you get distracted just bring your mind back to your breath. and comfortable. Chapter 2 . A calendar is a great tool. Why do some tools work while others don’t? I am here to teach you that. I intend to give you the tools that you need to be able to learn faster and more effectively. In order for you to effectively come up with new tools and to use them effectively you need to understand the theory of learning faster. You need to understand how it relates to your senses and your brain. it is crucial for us to be able to learn new material quickly and effectively. Rather. However. While there are many different articles and other materials that you can find on techniques for effective people. so there is no more need to go deeper into that. sight is faster than sound. For this reason. How to learn faster We live in a knowledge economy. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 44 . For example. These are the input senses that we talked about in the first chapter. many of them just do not work. They are often ad hoc material on various tools and tips you can use. Some of these senses allow us to gather information faster than the other senses. We shall begin by understanding our various senses that help us explore the world. I suppose you already know why it is so important to learn faster. so you don’t waste your time making laundry lists of tools. For example an article might suggest that you use a calendar to organize your day or your week. how many of us can actually stick to a calendar? How often have you made it task list that you never went back to read ever again? The need to be able to learn faster and be more organized is much more than simply learning a few tools of organization. This understanding will make you a more effective person.
However. honestly. I would highly recommend learning to speed read. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 45 . Many effective people like to listen to audiobooks while driving to work. Being able to learn by listening is a great way to learn even while our eyes are tired and we need to close them. We started with small words like ‘C-A-T’ cat and then move onto harder words like apple or banana. Therefore. we would like to continue learning even when our eyes are tired. We can also use our ability to learn by listening during a car ride or while we are driving. you may very well be able to train yourself to speed read at home simply by practice. This is a hard fact due to the speed at which we can learn by listening versus the speed at which we can learn by seeing. our eyes get tired at times. those of us who learn better by listening are worse off than those of us who learn better by seeing. Others learn best from seeing something done. Speed reading The concept behind speed-reading is as follows: as children we learned to read by pronouncing words. Some of us learn best from listening to someone. You can actually read this book much faster than somebody can speak it out to you. we all have our ways in which we learn best. We slowly begin to read aloud sentences and then short story books. As an effective person. it is important to be able to master learning through as many of our senses as we can.As children and adults. Because sight is the most important way for us to learn let us begin by looking at the concept of speed-reading. This inherently teaches us how to read using our ether chakra. But. If you do not know how to speed read it will put you at a disadvantage in this knowledge economy. There are full courses in speed-reading. However you decide to learn it. Some of them are expensive. They can help but if you understand the general principles by reading this book.
when we get accustomed to sightings such as road signs or logos we can see them and immediately create a mental image of what they are. However. This immediately takes away the barrier to speed which is set by the speed at which are vocal chords vibrate. We have been trained to read using a verbal technique. We can clearly see a whole page of the novel and flip to the next one. You would then be able to tell me that on that page you saw the logos of various companies such as Microsoft or Intel or Target or Walmart. That is what the average person can read — about a page a minute. et cetera. Simply take your index finger and move it across the page under a line of text. However. if one could use his eyes to look at the page and be able to absorb its information. An untrained eye gets lost when it sees too many lines of text in front of him. The basic idea behind speed-reading is to turn off the vocal chords while reading and read visually. One of the methods used by speed-reading coaches to train one’s eye is to use a finger or two that guide the eye as you go across the text.We listen and we speak. you could actually “read” those logos in a split second. we could be reading tens of thousands of words per minute if we can read visually. The first step to training ourselves to speed-read is to train our eyes to move along straight when reading text. then it would only take him a few seconds. The maximum reading speeds we are able to achieve via this method is of the order of 200 to 300 words per minute. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 46 . If I gave you a page of company logos. This immediately causes the person to resort to vocal reading. Technically. Allow your eyes to follow the tip of your finger as you take in that text.
Then use the finger technique described above to train your eyes to follow along while working your brain to make sense of the text.000 words per minute with complete understanding. One technique that can be used to stop this ether chakra from being in action is to put on a little background music or hum along something unrelated to the reading. It will demand a higher level of attention. I would recommend taking the Evelyn Wood Speed Reading Course: http://www. however. You can also seek out other resources on the web. Slowly with practice you can learn to keep your vocal chords off while reading using your eyes to move along quickly to the text. Speed listening We were just discussing speed-reading and you will become less likely to fall asleep and more interested during reading. Many speed readers have attained speeds of up of 10.com/ewrd/index. you will finish your reading many times faster. It could’ve been only be a matter of training your eyes to move along faster and faster while still continuing to understand what you’re reading. Most people in reading are using their vocal chords even when they’re reading silently. You will also become less likely to fall asleep and more interested during reading.asp. If you would like a full guided course in speed reading. You will find that in a short time you will train your eyes to speed read at speeds faster than ever before. Once you break the barrier to your reading speed you will have a wow moment. Their ether chakra is in action. This is because you can now use more of your brain and less Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 47 .ewrd. Reading can become just like watching a video. Start yourself off with long but easy readings. Another important technique that can be used by the speedreading is to attempt to visualize the scene or description as you go through it.
of your brain is idle. some people can learn a lot from these senses as well. I am well aware of them. crucial for an effective learner to speed up the rate at which he is listening. therefore. as in the case of a blind person. you should speed it up. feeling. even though he’s interesting. most of the media that I learn from is either audio or visual. and smell please contact me. Learning through Taste. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 48 . However. I know when the room is cold or hot et cetera. I’ve never used taste. This allows other people to listen more carefully to what he has to say. When we encounter a speaker who is talking relatively quickly we tend to be more attentive and listen carefully. If somebody has any great insight on learning from taste. automatically absorb more of what he has to say. therefore. to be honest. and smell as my primary senses of learning. We. Of course. when we encounter a speaker who may be talking rather slowly. Listening to faster speakers also helps one speed up the rate at which he speaks and learns. We very quickly feel as if our own mind can come up with or think about more things than the speaker is telling us. Perhaps. You may need to find some other tool that can help you speed up a speaker if you do not want your mind to wander away. YouTube now allows the speeding up of many of the lecture videos. However. If you are listening to a video of a slow speaker. They become more attentive as well. It is. and Smell I thought I will address this but. Feeling. a trained speaker varies his voice and the rate of speech depending on the difficulty of the material as well. ideally. It does not make sense to teach rocket science at rocket speeds to a group of novices. Your brain tends to want to fall asleep when it is idle. touch. our mind after a while tends to wander away into our own thoughts.
What we can do, however, is to analyze from these other senses the patterns in our life. These other senses can make us more aware of our health and well-being. There is not too much advantage trying to study how to eat faster or smell faster. In fact, if anything you should be eating slower and chewing your food well in order to avoid intestinal gases from bloating your stomach.
Visualization and Pattern Matching
Visualization is a very effective technique that a person can train himself to learn. That technique of visualization is one that allows a person to clearly see a scene in his mind’s eye. There are various methods for training in visualization. One training method is watching movies. Immersing oneself in a scene or repeatedly watching a particular type of image or scene allows our brain to learn what that image or scene looks like. This is perhaps the easiest way to learn visualization. Another way to learn visualization is by construction. For example, if you are to visualize a study room, you begin by putting all kinds of study materials in the room in their respective places. In order to put these materials in their places, you imagine the different constructs that may be available in the room where these items can be placed. So, you then imagine that there is a room that has bookshelves, tables, maybe a small cart, stools, and other shelving possibilities. You can also imagine people, such as students, in this room, or you can imagine that there are different types of books in this room. You can imagine that there are magazines, there are textbooks, there are novels, and there are stationeries as well as pens and pencils around the room. You can put these items in any places that you like. You can even put other items like a television set or things of need for this student who studies in the study room. Construction is a Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 49
great way to visualize new scenes that you might not have seen repeatedly before. Zooming in, rotating, scaling are other ways that can help your visualization. Imagine a small dot. Scale it up to a circle by zooming into it. Now rotate it really fast around one of its axes and you will discover that you have created a ball in your mind. These transformations such as zooming in, rotating and scaling can be applied to other full objects as well. You can also play breakdown with the objects. All of these things can help you with visualization. Another important aspect of visualization is pattern matching. Pattern matching and grouping allows you to encode a lot of visual information into smaller amounts of visual information. For example, in the construction example of the student’s room above I kind of just went ahead and imagined bookshelves or imagined shelving possibilities. This is a kind of grouping. A common exercise for practicing visualization is to walk into a room and observe it for a minute and then leave the room. Then ask a person to quiz you on the objects in the room. People who are good at pattern matching and grouping are more likely to get the positions and places of objects in the room right because they are able to visualize the room in groups or chunks. They remember, “oh the clipboard was sitting under the sofa” or “there were multiple black objects in the room that looked like coats and one was an actual jacket. Another was a Kinect that was sitting on top of the television. The television also was black…” These people have used color as a pattern to remember the various objects in the room. This immediately improves their ability to visualize the room. The more you remember about the room, the more likely you are to be able to visualize the room easily. The more you can visualize the room the more likely you are to remember where the various Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 50
objects in the room were. The neurons in your brain have an easier time with all the patterns you can observe. So how does this ability to do visualization and pattern matching help in let’s say a mathematician’s life? Say, the mathematician maybe trying to remember certain equations. If he can make observations about the patterns in the equations and remember the smaller chunks of the equation which have a similar pattern or are the same building blocks; then, he or she becomes more capable of remembering the mathematical equations. The ability to remember patterns or to break down into smaller patterns is not only useful for remembering things, but it also helps build a better understanding of the world. When we see a pattern that repeats itself in a situation we know that there may be a more general underlying cause, due to which that pattern is emerging. When we make an observation of the pattern, we immediately can become curious and explore the reasons for its emergence. When we understand why that pattern is coming about then we begin to understand more about the world around us. Strong visualization abilities are keys to effective persons. Observing patterns is a key to building up these strong visualization abilities. Note that visualization is visual and we discussed that visuals are superior to audios in their ability to convey information faster. However, an interesting thing to observe here is that the ability of visualization relies on pattern matching. And pattern matching is not restricted to visual. We can also do audio pattern matching. Audio pattern matching is a great tool for us to realize when we keep repeating ourselves to others or also when somebody else keeps repeating to us. We can very quickly realize when we are not learning effectively from a person Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 51
anymore because we are simply getting the same information back all the time. Audio pattern matching in encoding information to make a lot of audio into much smaller amounts of audio can allow us to become more effective at learning and teaching. I would recommend starting with visualization. Practice your visualization abilities until you can clearly visualize easily. Then also practice your ability to create audio models of the world around you and your brain. One way to do this is to listen to a movie without the visuals. Just hear the soundtrack of the movie. Or listen to a speaker while going to bed. It is important to develop both the visual and the audio capabilities of our mind and our senses. Developing them separately will allow you to separate out the scene into its audio and visual components. This will allow you to become a more effective learner and teacher because you will be able to consciously choose which mode of learning is required any given scenario.
Pattern Matching reversed
Now that you have already learned the importance of pattern matching in relation to the senses and learning theory I would like to discuss the reversal of pattern matching and its importance in learning theory. This is the undoing of patterns. It’s important to understand how to undo patterns because we have been training and learning patterns ever since our childhood. We begin early on by learning different shapes for example triangle, circle, or a square. What if you were given a shape that you’ve never learned about? It would be trickier for you to remember this shape. The real world is not actually composed of shapes as we know them at all. They are mere categorizations of our own brain in order to understand and make sense of the world.
Let Your Mind See
For example. yellow or brown. it is important for us to understand that the world does not exactly correspond to the patterns. Reverse patterning is attempting to dissolve the boundaries in our head. When we look around at the objects around us. blue. For example. Humans categorized them in order to remember and identify different wavelengths easily. We will get back to the idea of understanding that we exist beyond our senses. However. During the meditation process when we turn off our output and input senses. certain cultures cannot tell the difference between certain sounds because of the way they have characterized sound. Our senses are inherently designed to show us the patterns in our world. It also occurs across cultures. The identification problem is dealt with by using patterns. This kind of categorization due to the senses occurs in all animals. When they see red in that shape they think it is a fish.Take for example colors like red. If you have met other people of other cultures you may very well know that you’re not able to pronounce the words correctly in other languages because they fall out of the categorization of your language. there exist certain types of fish that others cannot tell the difference between a cardboard red fish versus a real red fish. blue. green. These are colors are not as they seem. green. We then realize the loss of these boundaries and patterns that we create in order to understand our world the way we do. They are merely wavelengths of a continuous spectrum. we become one with the universe. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 53 . When we remove the boundaries we realize that there is more to it and it is all matter of different wavelengths. or brown. We should realize that there is more to colors than the patterns that can categorize them in such as red. yellow. we distinguish the objects we have decided to define based on certain boundaries.
Sometimes you look at the world through the lens of color. and then re-patterning them in a different way. cold. They will bring new insights and realizations about your life. Sometimes you look at the world through the lens of shapes. Oscillating between creating and coming up with patterns and mixing pattern boundaries and then coming up with new patterns allows us to remember. There are whole courses in body language and I will not get into them. Observe if you feel hot. Feeling Finally. Sometimes you look at the world through the lens of the silence it is making. However. identify. Observe what your hands tend to spend their time doing. I would recommend them to anyone who’s interested in exploring these issues further. We can understand much more about the world by removing the categorizations and patterns we are used to seeing things with. It is almost like looking through the world with different lenses. Observed the direction in which you sleep. looking at the world through the lens of meditation is the way to experience the universe and its wholeness. we could take our spectrum and redefine the boundaries at which we define our colors. This technique can be applied to anything from mathematical equations to songs to speech to visualization or matter itself. Look for patterns in these observations. On which side do you sleep? Observe how you count your fingers. and finally understand our world a little better. However. observe your grasp of things. Doing so will allow us to remember more types of colors and become more detailed in our understanding of color. Sometimes you look at the world through the lens of light. or normal most of the time. It helps them decide when to shut up and when to talk to another person. For example. It helps them decide if the other person is being genuine or not. Patterning the kind of work that you’re doing. Knowing or having the tool is not enough. and the body language of yourself and others is a key to being effective in most businesses and especially in professions like sales or politics. Now you might begin to realize how learning faster is a matter of understanding yourself and your senses. the more effectively you can understand which learning tools will work for you. We will now discuss one of the most important and interesting advantages of understanding meditation and our brain: How to think faster and in more depth. Our world is full of tools everything from software. It all starts with a calm and aware mind.

Chapter 3 - How to think faster and more deeply
Just as the eye needs training to read in straight lines and learn to stop moving in circles and getting lost in the text, the mind also needs training to stop wandering all over the place and to focus in order to clearly visualize a scenario. With practice you can learn to focus on an object or person and let it evolve like a movie, without being distracted by random thoughts. When you sleep and dream, your mind settles down and visualizes one sequential story, but a calm trained mind can do the same thing without actually falling asleep. This is helpful for many things from analyzing business scenarios, possible reactions of people, writing stories and more.
The four minds that cause thinking
The key lies in the various functions of the brain that were discussed in the first chapter. If you recall, the four functions of the brain that direct our senses are 1) Habits 2) Wisdom 3) Ego 4) Desire. In order to think faster, let us explore the question of what does it mean to think faster? What does it mean to think deeper? What does it mean to think about anything at all? What does it mean to think? What do we think about? How do we think about what we think about? Why do we think about what we think about? When do we think about what we think about? Where do we think about what we think about? What are we doing when we think about what we think about? Understanding the answers to these questions is the key to thinking faster and more clearly. For example, by thinking about these questions I have discovered that I think faster Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 57
when I am walking as compared to when I’m lying in bed. This relates directly to my habit of going to sleep when I’m in bed, and paying attention to my surroundings when I am talking. This is directly related to the first of the four functions of the brain. To give you an example of how the second function of our brain, i.e. wisdom causes us to think faster or slower. If we know a lot about a particular topic, then we tend to think faster about this topic. If we know less about that topic, we tend to think slower about it. The knowing we speak about here does not refer only to knowledge. Sometimes we have experience and we can, therefore, write or think faster about that topic. Our ego also causes us to think slower or faster about certain topics. If we are mentally or emotionally attached to something, then we tend to think faster and more clearly about the topic compared to the topic we have not attached ourselves to. For example, a child will look up as soon as cake is mentioned. It immediately triggers a response in the child’s mind, which is attached to the taste of cake. This is also the reason that our mind gets excited and thinks faster when we are offended. Finally, our desire also causes us to think faster and more clearly. In a dire situation, we might see a wild tiger and immediately our mind would start racing with a desire to run for our life. With this deeper understanding one can tame the mind to think faster as needed. For example, we can artificially create time pressure to get something done such as by setting due dates or developing a sense of urgency. We can develop a liking for — an attachment to — our work. In order Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 58
To illustrate the point: my mind is more creative in coming up with stories as a writer if I do it while walking instead of while sitting and if I do it in a singing voice than in a monotonous voice. are generally better than women at computing and solving for things. men. This means that they are typically better at things like driving or problem solving. Both the ability to memorize and the ability to compute need to be trained for becoming a better thinker. I find that mnemonic devices work amazingly well in order to improve memory. So. men can develop an understanding of how to memorize using mnemonics and pattern matching to become very efficient at memorizing as well. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 60 . However. one way is to practice by solving a lot of problems.Memory versus Computation To develop faster thinking. They have a ready ability to recognize patterns and match them up. you also have to develop your abilities to compute and come up with new solutions faster and your ability to memorize things better. on the other hand. This relation allows our brain to remember content more easily. Essentially we. are using our ability to compute and solve and make sense of things to memorize. Certainly. Personally. Pattern matching is actually a great way to create these relations because the commonalities are related to each other in a very direct way. although I’m not a woman. Men. Pattern matching. Mnemonics help us translate information into something our brains can grasp more easily. is a great way to improve both memory and computational abilities. Women generally seem to be better than men at memorizing things. It allows us to relate the material to old material that we already know. as discussed earlier. I imagine that there is a way of using efficient memorization and knowledge in order to improve your ability to compute and solve as well.
There is a distinct speed advantage if you have already memorized or know the solution to a problem or have practiced solving lots of similar problems. People can drastically improve the speed at which they are able to learn by learning the techniques that have already been resolved by the experts in their respective fields. Nobody has enough time in their life to figure out everything for themselves. However, in those things that you figure out for yourself, you will have a deeper understanding of them than people who have not figured it out for themselves.
Thinking visually versus thinking in words – visualizing with the subconscious
I won’t go over this too much because I’ve already emphasized how thinking visually is superior to thinking in audio or words or sound. What I do want to say here is that while we have talked about visualization, you can actually stop letting go of yourself at some point during the process of meditation after you have let go of your output senses. This actually puts your being in a state where your output senses are off but your input senses are still on. You continue to see the visions of your subconscious in your mind’s eye. Practicing this ability has helped me tremendously in my ability to visualize scenes for my novel in my subconscious, when I wish to. This may be a somewhat tricky ability to acquire and may take some practice and meditation expertise. If this is not working for you or the technique puts you to sleep, you can utilize other techniques of visualization such as construction. Having a clear vision of what you’re doing, or what you’re saying, or what you’re describing is important not only for being able to think deeply but also for being able to improve your understanding, which is the subject of our next chapter. We will get back to the idea of using your subconscious mind in more detail in the sixth chapter. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 61
Defragmenting the Mind - Focus on one task at a time
The mind’s decisions continuously divide it up into fragments. The mind is faced with continuous dualities. Should I do one thing or another? What is the most important thing I should do right now? What will give me the most benefits? What have I gained or lost in life? There are dualities of the past, present, and future. The only way to deal with these dualities is to choose one task and put our entire mind and focus into that one task. Doing so will automatically begin to defragment our mind and put our mind to get there. It eventually causes us to get bored and restless; however, it allows us to bring clarity to our mind. Like the computer’s defragmenter, the mind also needs to be defragmented. Meditations discussed in the Chapter 4, such as reliving meditation, are great ways of defragmenting the already fragmented mind. To prevent the mind from becoming fragmented easily and quickly, you should focus on one task at a time.
Make a decision and be that decision
The key to moving forward in life and to accomplish tasks is to make sure that you dedicate yourself to that task that you have decided to focus on. Once you have made a decision to focus on a specific task, do not get on any other task before finishing the current task. Tell every other task to get out of your way and wait until the task at hand is finished. If you successfully do this, you will notice that you are a more efficient person and you accomplish a lot of things in life. People who are not able to focus on their tasks do not get very far with their works. This is similar to what we discussed about focusing on the breath when practicing meditation.

I will discuss the more advanced energy fields. they will exhaust you and you will not be able to perform them well. Visualize.
What kind of a person are you? How do you treat others and deal with them? How do you treat yourself? Do you take care of yourself? Are you obsessed about anything such as money or another person or sex or anything else? How does that body lying in front of you treat itself on a daily basis? What does that person do for a living? How does he or she look from a distance? Let your soul stand and Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 78 . We are moving away from observing thoughts to observing ourselves and the world around us. use your intellect chakra to let your soul observe your body from the outside. Next. In this third person meditation. You will become detached from your own personality.3rd Person Observation The next type of meditation that helps us in developing a better understanding of ourselves and the world around us is the third-person observation. This time we are not going to be in the first person observing our thoughts. It knows everything about you and is aware of everything about you. your soul will observe you and allow you to rest in peace. It can assume any body it chooses. We are actually going to observe ourselves in third person. It is independent of your problems. Try to observe yourself from 3 to 4 feet away. After shutting down your output senses. in Vipassana we explored our thoughts and simply observed. Your soul is independent of your body. In this third person observation. It is independent of your faults and flaws and lies. Notice that we started with just breathing meditation which allowed us to relax to an ultimate level. lie down. You can be completely honest to your own soul as it stands outside your body watching you. close your eyes and relax using the breathing meditation.
You will automatically create more happiness and love for yourself from your own being and from others over time. this third person meditation is another way of better understanding yourself. If this is the case. I put this 3rd person observation in between the intermediate and advanced meditations because it can actually be performed at two levels. you can let it ask any questions to your body which then sends the answers as energy to it. Practicing the silence allows your soul to truly observe in 3rd person. Let it observe quietly. It could remove many of the difficulties in your life as you will begin to realize the ways in which you need to change yourself to become a better person. you actually start with the third-eye meditation and Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 79 . Again. our thoughts. In the basic method you kind of just think about yourself in 3rd person and it can be performed by practically anyone. Notice. By doing this. Later after a few times of letting it observe quietly. Performing this type of meditation often will also help you become a more relaxed and more honest person. Do not talk to the soul early on. you will slowly develop a deeper understanding of the self and how others perceive you. In the more advanced format. go back and perform Vipassana meditation with the new thoughts that have arisen that are making you uncomfortable. Now that through these different meditation procedures we have begun to understand our senses. you may at times realize things that might make you feel uncomfortable with your own self.observe your life from a 3rd person perspective. As you do this. let us explore in more detail our interaction with the world around us and then our interaction with our divine self and the universe. and our being better.
You are now reliving that moment. You will know for yourself and for sure you’ll be wonder-struck if you are doing the second type. I will talk more about rebirth meditation in the seventh chapter. observing more about what happens in our life than the first time around. but rather try to relive it at the same pace as you went through the day. you might realize that there was construction in the parking lot which you ignored the first time as you walked to the superstore. Do not merely think about the events that happened during the day. You might notice events that are happening as you walk to the superstore that you chose to ignore the first time around. in which you are reborn as your-self. There were certain construction workers Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 80 . Kundalini and Divine connection Re-living meditation is a type of rebirth meditation. Lie back and start imagining one thing at a time from the start of the day and reliving your day. This time however we will relive our day in the first person. Rebirth meditation is an interesting methodology for observing one person in the first person and being reborn as your-self. We previously discussed about observing oneself in the third person. For example. If you walked to the superstore. but here is how the basic re-living meditation goes. imagine once again that you are walking to the superstore and be more observant about the events happening around you as you walk to the superstore. As you go through from the start of the day to the end of the day you will observe many different sequences of events that you failed to observe the first time around. Now before we move onto making the most of the subconscious mind and advanced meditations like kundalini. This sort of rebirth meditation can help you in understanding the world around yourself better and why certain things worked out for you during the day and why other things did not. you will learn more about the mistakes you made during the interview process. By definition as an object. Therefore. Our whole body. Instead. Memory is one of the most important things about our brain and the more you understand about it the more effective you will be as a person in everything from daily tasks to discovering and learning to do new things and long term vision and focus. just like muscle weight training. It has the ability to dynamically become stronger with training. football he or she often does not need to think that all about the actions once these become part of muscle memory. The ability to retrieve information is tied directly to how you store that information. When an athlete plays a sport like volleyball. we should focus on improving the ability for our brain to learn by meditating frequently. we train and fatigue the brain muscle. or tennis. retains memory. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 83 . Because memory both strengthens the brain and works by association.Chapter 5 . memory is essentially learning that has persisted over time. the more things we learn and memorize the better we get at memorizing. Or better yet you can see it as a process. When we spend time thinking. Several studies have now shown that the brain too is like a large muscle that is specialized to do various functions. the process of storing and retrieving information. we should not worry much about our brain filling up.How to increase memory Understanding memory We discussed memory and computation a little bit earlier in thinking faster and deeper. not only the brain. Meditation is the best way to relax that muscle after. We have something called muscle memory.
Various types of memorization or learning goes to different parts of our brain muscle. Let us now tackle about subliminal learning which is a better way to learn and remember new materials for the long-term.
Way too often we stress ourselves out trying to learn new material using our conscious brain. Because our subconscious brain is significantly more powerful, it is actually more effective to memorize using our subliminal brain. In order to bypass our conscious brain and memorize or learn using our subliminal brain, we need to first relax and be calm. When we are happy, relaxed and calm we allow our subconscious brain to be stress-free and take in new information. The best way to remember information in the long-term is to relax and read or listen with full attention and calm mind, letting the material get absorbed into your subconscious brain. Just relax and think of the inner parts of your brain easily absorbing all the information that you’re reading and learning. Become more aware of the information you are taking in, and believe that you are an expert and that it is easy to take in and remember the information. As we will discuss more about utilizing this subconscious mind in the next chapter, it is actually much easier for us to learn when we do not restrict our ability to learn by thinking that the material is hard to learn. Truly believe that you can simply view the information, look at the information, and make sense of the information. It is easy for you to do so because you have the background necessary to understand and grasp that information. Believe that you’re in the state of mind and you’re ready to accept that information into your subliminal mind. Do not try to force the information into your brain; rather break it up into patterns, create mnemonics and Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 84
associations, pay attention to it, and try to accept the information into your brain. Repeat the information several times because that helps build stronger connections between the neurons in your brain which help you remember the material better. The less you repeat the information or the less you use the information, the more likely you are to forget that material. However, when you learn something and you repeat it many times over and make sure you will retain it, then even if you do not use it you will still retain it.
Long term and Short term memory banks
Short-term memory is the very small register of memory that resides in our frontal cortex. It helps us remember up to about seven items and for a period of about 18 to 30 seconds. Long-term memory, on the other hand, helps us remember things for up to a lifetime. Short-term memory is stored in the front part of our brain, right behind our forehead. This is the primary reason why we imagine the object in our forehead, between our two eyes, when we do object meditation or inner gazing meditation. The ephemeral short-term memory is good for quick memory access. The reason it is placed in the forehead is because the region is very close to the eyes. Communication between the eyes and the short-term memory is very fast. Short-term memory is constantly either moved into long-term memory or lost before being refreshed to free up the short term memory register. Repeating information or associated information is more likely to get moved into long term memory and less likely to be lost. Long-term memory is stored in the rest of the brain. It is stored in a variety of ways. Different parts of the brain can store different amounts of long-term memory. Different Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 85
physical positions of the brain work with different amount of association and can retain information for different lengths of time. But the main thing that helps you in memory is to remember that short term memory is in the front of the brain and is ephemeral. You can deal with phone numbers that are 7 digits. Which memory stores behavioral information. This memory is responsible for making it very easy for us to repeat what we just heard. The word episodic comes from episodes. But. It is essentially related to the various event groups in our life. suppose you want to remember a longer sequence of numbers: 5815465545964646464465464185 Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 86 . Recalling number sequences Neuroscientists are putting in a lot of effort into decoding which types of memory banks are where in the brain. Near our ears is another type of small memory which is the things that are considered to be ‘on top of our head’ or ‘at the tip of our tongue. For example. It can only store a list of some 7 things at a time at max. where the English is stored and so forth. If you remember the audio and hearing capabilities are directly related to the throat or ether chakra. where is the science stored. The brain decides where to store the long-term memory depending on its purpose.

So break this up into 6 numbers like this: 58154 | 65545 | 96464 | 64644 | 65464 | 185 Now just look at it for a second and let your subliminal memory absorb it. big. big. 81. Include the sitting back and just looking at it and absorbing it with a relaxed mind for a few seconds into the mental training technique. object types. Remember.
Chapter 6 – How to utilize the subconscious mind
The subconscious mind unlike the conscious mind does not work on logic and reason. Rather, it works on inhibiting emotion and images and exhibiting intuition and creative insight. The ‘wow’ or ‘aha’ moments that we have are actually the moments that directly strike with our subconscious mind. Harnessing the subconscious mind is a matter of controlling and navigating your emotions. Also, the subconscious mind happens to be a lot more powerful than the conscious mind (I’ve seen numbers from 10,000 times more powerful to 10 billion times more powerful in literature). It doesn’t matter. Just understand that it’s a lot more powerful and most people who know of it are afraid to tell you or talk about training it, because then you’d become very powerful. With proper practice you can become in-control of your emotions. You will be in charge of when you want to be angry, sad, happy, hungry et cetera, unlike the average person who is slave to his emotions. You will not be angry at other people just because you feel angry, but you will display anger only if and when you want to in order to achieve your goals. You will not feel hungry and subject yourself to eating randomly. Rather, you will be in control of your hunger and be able to conscientiously decide which healthy or unhealthy foods you want to eat for taste or for getting nutrition to your body. Through proper meditation practice you can control all of your emotions and all of your senses. In order to better understand, start by understanding the anatomy of the brain. The brain is broken up into three main regions: the reptile Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 89

The reptile brain in many ways is the core of our subconscious as it controls the most primordial emotions such as fear. This is the part of the brain that tells us to run away when we see a snake for example. and parenting. the parietal lobe.brain (known as R-complex). The lighting around us makes a huge difference in our meditation practices as it can determine how charged up our pineal gland or other parts of the brain are. The primate brain is the next part of our mind and controls our ability for language. the occipital in the back. The mammal brain is the next part of our subconscious as it controls motivation and emotions involved in feeding. abstraction. This is the ‘conscious’ part of the brain that works on reason and logic. This is the part of the brain that tells us to desire food or like another person as a potential partner or care for our children. when I talk about being in control of emotions and controlling the subconscious it is deeply engrained in this anatomy of the brain. reproductive behavior. In a lateral view of the brain we can divide it up into four sections: The frontal lobe. anger. The frontal lobe goes in the front. the mammal brain (known as the limbic system). We already talked about how the pineal gland meditation should be done at dawn. and the primate brain (neocortex) from the inside to the outside. the temporal lobe. and the occipital lobe.
This is crucial to our success in today’s business and economic environment. It allows the awakening of the frontal lobe. The dopamine system is associated with reward. and motivation. short-term memory tasks. decision-making skills. An active frontal lobe makes us feel positive and happy. and inhibition. which is all that your Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 91 . you can keep the amygdala from taking over by naming the trigger or emotion. judgment. Being in control of your amygdala is the way to reduce unwanted hormone release that creates anxiety. It puts us in greater control. The ability to activate the frontal lobe is crucial for doing well with the various understanding meditations which I talked about in the fourth chapter. It is the connection between your subconscious animal brain and your conscious human brain. It helps counteract the fears generated by the reptile brain and is responsible for executive functions such as planning for the future. Rubbing against your temples is one way that has been suggested to massage it internally. making the neocortex aware of it and taking deep breaths with purpose. If starting to feel anxious. The frontal lobe is the part of the brain that we want to activate by meditation. It contains the primary motor cortex and allows us to control specific body parts. planning. The frontal lobe is activated best by performing inner gazing meditations and keeping object images in the front of our brain. attention. attention span. It will allow you to think logically and reasonably instead of seeing it as a fight-or-flight situation. The frontal lobe contains most of the dopamine-sensitive neurons in the cerebral cortex. which when activated causes us to be optimistic and ecstatic. The amygdala is an almond shaped mass of nuclei located deep within the temporal lobe of the brain.
you will be able to train your mind to use the very powerful subconscious for better uses than simply deciding fight or flight and be anxious in every situation. but will allow you to do all kinds of cool things like cooking and smelting if you can master it. the ‘law of attraction’ simply says that.animal subconscious will want you to do. by thinking positively in a direction and positively about yourself and imagining yourself in the ideal state. This is why taking deep breaths in the face of anxiety works in preventing the amygdala from overreacting and imposing the reptile brain on the more logical human brain. Many of you might already know the law of attraction if you have read something like Napoleon Hill’s book “Think and Grow Rich. fire. air. you can achieve anything physically possible. It is just like controlling real fire which will burn you if you have not learned to use it.” Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 92 .” For those who don’t. You should tell yourself everyday “I like myself. The meditation techniques discussed in the fourth chapter along with exercise and healthy living will allow you to prevent the amygdala from taking over in every situation and to continue using your frontal lobe. Sages and saints are good at this and thus they appear to always be in control of the situations around them. Having understood the way the brain is set up as well as the learning and meditation techniques I’ve discussed.
more ideas and more creativity. We already said how the subconscious doesn’t work on reason but on images and emotion and has so much capacity. So putting yourself and the people around you in the right state of mind is absolutely essential. Recognizing Addictions Our subconscious brain is largely responsible for our addictions. This very principle is the foundation of hypnosis as well. excitement and confidence are contagious as they bypass the conscious and directly hit the subconscious of the people around you as well. more shall be given to him. it is typically because we have not acknowledged it properly using meditation techniques such as Vipassana meditation (see the fourth chapter) or we just let it sit there in our subconscious. A hypnotist is an expert in stimulating such emotions and can achieve it best when the other person turns off their conscious mind. To top it off. while those who are depressed and negative and going nowhere get very few ideas and even the energy that they have gets lost and dissipated. If we are addicted to something. Those who are excited and positive and moving toward the accomplishment of their goals receive even more energy. nothing shall be given to him and even that which he already has will also be taken away from him. The positive mind automatically and continuously solves every problem on the pathway to the goal and becomes capable of best utilizing both the subconscious mind and the frontal lobe. The positive environment you create around yourself acts as a magnet and will attract everything you desire. To him who thinks he has more.
Ultimately. over time you will become healthier.and image-based as we discussed) to either keeping it or losing it. you will want to stay away Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 94 . This decision should be made using your intelligence and knowledge about the subject matter. by definition. During the interval of time in which you are curing yourself. You will notice the things that you kept repeating on a momentary. but not being subjected to them by the unconscious and carrying them out to unhealthy and inappropriate levels. daily. Not all addictions are bad. if you’re addicted to drinking water often that’s actually good. the intelligence should be controlled using the universal super-conscious. the term has a negative connotation because we typically think about addictions as those things that we repeat unconsciously but we do not want to be doing. The cure to addictions begins with the step of recognizing them. You might initially feel angry or depressed upon giving up an addiction. you should take a few minutes daily and calmly think about your day. and the body should be controlled using the mind. This decision of whether or not an addiction should be kept or discarded should not be made using emotion itself. Once you have acknowledged and recognized an addiction. model. It should always be made wisely using intelligence. For example. you can take subconscious steps (emotional.
The Role Model Trick This trick is useful when you fear something or are trying to learn a new skill or deal with an undesirable situation. Most addictions take at least a month or two of complete abstinence from them while you train your subconscious emotions to cope. In that case. Once you have swapped yourself into the picture instead of the role model that is the new image. You could. It works for fear of animals.completely from that addiction. fear of talking on stage and every other kind of phobia. As it becomes completely clear in your mind how to behave in that situation your fear gets driven away. learn to communicate better by watching a person who communicates well closely. Suppose you cannot get yourself out of a fear or even begin to visualize or imagine yourself against that situation or fear. It will automatically improve your communication as your subconscious begins to absorb how a person can naturally communicate smoothly without fear. You then slowly envision yourself in the role model's position dealing with that situation. This personality or this role model is actually an image for you. I have already talked about how your subconscious mind works with emotion and images. As you continue to watch the role model you get the capacity to envision yourself as a replacement of your role model. for example. Challenge Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 95 . you find a role model who is fearless in that situation. This will strike your subconscious directly and you will begin to behave naturally and comfortably in the situation that you once feared. You then watch the role model as much as you can and see how he behaves and acts in that situation. You can build an emotional connection with your role model and his ability.
In feedback learning. If you understand it. therefore. One of the greatest fears that we have is negative reinforcement to a particular action. we overcome the fear by challenging it. If you’re not able to do it by yourself. Thank you. that is a genuine fear so don’t do it. the reinforcement is the result of an action. Keep practicing. if you fear putting your hand in fire and burning it. you might try a professional hypnotist. However. we have sometimes had a negative reinforcement of an action which has caused us to develop that fear. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 96 . They are false fears. In the past. If we do the same action again and again we would not actually get the same negative reinforcement. Of course. many of our fears are not genuine. or a fear of spiders or pet cats. But if it is something like what would people say about you if you speak on stage.your fears and with practice you can overcome them completely. then you might try to overcome it. you are now ready for a supercharged brain that has no fears and anxieties so long as you can keep your amygdala from hijacking your brain. Please use the powerful knowledge I’ve given to you here ethically and morally.
in the breathing meditation we also learned how to control and shutdown our senses. there is philosophy about if a tree fell in the forest and you did not hear it fall. We will build a connection with the universe. We will understand the energies around this. most of us believe in logic that the tree did fall and other people continue to live in this world past our individual death. In the more advanced forms of meditation. However. Even if you’re sitting in a room. We have practiced becoming aware through our senses. But if you close your eyes. we should know that there are many things in this universe that we are unable to sense but still exist. Similarly. We will then work to connect with our divine form. I know up until this point we have practiced imagery quite a bit. You can still know of the existence of the universe with your eyes closed. Your self-awareness does not depend on your senses. If you hold out your hand. If you have withdrawn all of your senses inward. Instead of sensing with the usual senses. We believe that the world continues to exist outside the realm of our sight.Chapter 7 – Introduction to Advanced Techniques The advanced techniques that I am now going to discuss rely on understanding and knowing that you exist beyond the senses. In order to get beyond the usual forms and into the more advanced forms. did it really fall? However. One type that we discussed was the advanced third person observation with our soul observing us from the outside. Avoid falling sick while trying to cure a sick person. That is one type of an out-of-body experience. For this. you are more likely to yell at them or fight them.
I then saw from the perspective of the subtle body — I was no longer in the body that was sitting on the bench. saying “Look what I can do. I believe I have managed to do an occasional astral projection or two but I am certainly not an expert on how to force oneself into an astral projection.” I said nothing and continued to focus on the fresh air and energy that surrounded me. I am not a miracle worker and do not understand how that works. Many ideas related to the subtle body can be found in YogaVashishta-Maharamayana of Valmiki. In the next section I talk about SanatSujata which was actually a sage subtle body created by Vidur in the epic poem of Mahabharata. The art of dying and being reborn in another body Similar to the way the third person object meditation had a basic and then advanced version. The advanced version of this therapy is quite dangerous and is only performed at old age when a person is ready to actually pass away peacefully.I will share with you at the end of this chapter some incidences related to my own dreams that may make you believe that there is more to it than belief. the rebirth therapy also has the basic and an advanced version. In the basic version. This is not the proper way to do it and has resulted in several brutal murders which were attempts at forcing another person through rebirth. Section XLI of the Mahabharata. we create the image of the object we want to be reborn as in our mind’s eye as we did in reliving our day. [Story Reference: For more details on the story of death of Vidur refer to UdyogaParva (Sanat-sujataparva).htm#Sanat-sujata] As an aside and a warning. there have been some very sad cases of people attempting to force others into rebirth through forcing them to suffocate etc.
You can choose to live the day from the perspective of your mother. saying they are going to allow her to be reborn to end her diseases and depressions. you will learn more about the relationships that your mother has with the different people in her life. It is particularly helpful to do a rebirth meditation technique from the perspective of people you have conflicts in life with. It will help you better understand their perspectives on life. We observe the breath until it narrows down and sits in our third eye. We can understand how his intelligence is different from our own. The intelligence of a person is basically how he deals with any given situation. You can also perform rebirth meditation as living in the body of another person or being. Rebirth meditation also helps us better understand intelligence. and dealing with the situation from the perspective of multiple different Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 108 . Earlier we talked about reliving our day as ourselves in our mind’s eye which was the first type of rebirth meditation where you live as your own self. This is simply wrong and not advocated here or by me at all. we can better understand how his or her intelligence functions in that situation. As an author I like to do rebirth meditation particularly on the characters of my book. For example. Through multiple experiences. By living the day of another person or living in the shoes of another person. Let us have a closer look at the proper technique. you live with your mother. By doing so. This gives me greater insight on how their individual stories might play out in the whole scheme of things in my novel.modern times. there was a case of a group of ‘rebirth scientists’ who suffocated a little girl in a hot room under a pillow. The breathing technique in rebirth meditation is very similar to the breathing technique of focus meditation.
this is typically done only in old age when a being is ready to sacrifice this life and move on to the next. We can better know how others would deal in our situations and make a better decision on how to deal with it ourselves. Now you should be able to better understand that the “rebirth scientists” who suffocated the little girl were unknowledgeable and simply wrong in their understanding of it. Rebirth meditation can also be discussed in the context of death. Therefore. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 109 . it is typically advised that a person thinks about God during this time. you haven't left the rebirth cycle anyway. In the context of death. The object of focus during this rebirth meditation is the object that the person expects to become or achieve in their next lifetime. This allows a person to get out of the rebirth cycle and achieve God's home in the next lifetime or enlightenment. this art of dying is performed only in old age after a point when a person is ready to pass away this life in peace. Again.intelligences we can learn a lot more about how to deal with various situations in our life. I gave you the example of Mahatama Vidur on this earlier. This ability is only achieved through years and sometimes a lifetime of practice in meditation. this means you have passed away your life and are now dead. You can even focus on nothingness and achieve enlightenment. While some people might choose to focus on love or a certain kind of being. As mentioned earlier.
? These are very personal questions to be answered. the art of dying is simply to think about the object that we want to be in our next lifetime at the time of our death. Having the capability to think about the divine at the time of death is the consequence of thinking about the divine on a daily basis. it would be really hard to think about the divine suddenly when death is imminent. It has no physical consequences other than helping us to understand our life better from a certain perspective of another life form. We should personally realize for ourselves how and where we would like to die. how should you handle it? This is an advanced state of mind and comes after we develop compassion and understanding and have learned the art of living through the other forms of meditation. So as for most of us. I’m merely discussing the art of dying. The rebirth meditation that one can practice on a daily basis does not involve letting go of the prana through your crown. You may make your close friends aware of your preferences for a happier passing away when you naturally do. Remember that I’m not advocating suicidal tendencies or any such attempts. understanding how to die peacefully and achieve whatever we desire in our next lifetime is a very important skill. Most knowledgeable and saintly people choose to think about the divine being or God or something religious as the object to think about at the time of their dying so they can in their next life dwell with God. we can choose to be reborn in our minds or in Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 110 . but the soul is never born and never dies. by whatever means it is. When in the process of naturally dying. Therefore. Everything that is born comes to an end. After mastering the techniques of rebirth meditation. that had made it on time. The bus dropped us off at school and left. This wide hall as I walked in more had a staircase downwards. You are the experiences you have and you will retain that experience you’ve had. The bus had been coming at two in the afternoon. “Why did the bus come at twelve today?” I wondered out loud. We. but that day we–the boys–had planned to come to the bus stop at twelve and leave before two when the bus would actually come. I now describe to you one such vivid experience that I had in the year 2002. I call it Maya. the few guys. So my sister was still getting ready at the time the bus was supposed to come and I had left for the bus stop just in time to make it to the bus that came on an earlier time that day. got into the bus. A small diagonal piece of hall connected the compartmented cafeteria to the wide hall I was in. “I remembered you said you were going to all come at twelve and miss the bus. But the bus came at twelve and she missed the bus. Maya The bus to school came late each day.” the weird bus driver responded. “Oh!” We said in unison. After walking into the hall. The left hand side of this Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 113 . Next to the bus area on the left side looking from outside the school or the right side from inside was the cafeteria. You will know it and it’s amazing. My sister was going to come at two. I noticed for the first time the water fountains and the restrooms on the left side of the hall–the same side as the cafeteria.
There was something about everything in the room that made me dizzy. I stood in a lobby. It wasn’t the message that bothered me. I found my classroom and went and sat down. it was the fact that there was no visible exit. on my left was a large stone wall and in front I could see the stairs leading up. and a slimmer taller guy who stood right in front of me. I don’t see any exit in this lobby. Behind me was the hall of classrooms. On the right hand side wall of the hall on the upper floor were huge glass doors giving a peek of the outside and bringing some outer light into the darker cavelike place. I sat in the front right corner of the room. I will come back here later. It was hollow. Everything was normal. but the large space between this wall and the end of the stairs was an unusually dark place.” I thought. After going down the stairs. I don’t remember exactly what I said to the teacher standing in front of me but I made an excuse and left for the lobby where I heard an announcement. I continued straight after coming down the stairs into the infinitely long hall where all of the classrooms were. I wished to leave the room. and there were two teachers/instructors – an old fat guy who sat in front of the class in a chair. The classroom was completely underground with no windows. “DO NOT USE THE LOBBY EXIT TO LEAVE SCHOOL OR YOU WILL BE KILLED” the announcement repeatedly said. and the right hand side wall simply had water fountains on it. I went to the fountains to drink a sip of water. only fluorescent light.wide hall simply had a railing from where one could stand and look down. Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 114 . “The lobby exit. For then. next to the door. and the glass doors.
It must be the lobby exit I figured. How spooky! At a closer look it seemed as if one could go right behind this wall of fountains by walking around it in that dark opening. He was dark in color. But I didn’t seem to remember anything and he did. The candy was transparent and I remember most of them being red or green. I imagine was where the bus left us. I had another drink of water at the fountains upstairs where I met this other kid who had also been on the bus with me. hehe). but wanting to take no chances yet. although I had thought it had been a school I had gone to for years. I don’t recall what he bought but I bought some hard candy shaped like a donut. The elephant quickly approached the wall on our right. I didn’t remember any elephant. And the Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 115 . I left and went upstairs. I got the feeling that I was completely new to the school and he wasn’t. Funny. Behind this wall. He then showed me how to buy a snack sitting in a compartment.but gave the look of a wall. He showed me around into the compartmentalized cafeteria. almost brown with a bluish effect and not very tall. He seemed to know everything. I only recalled gardens being there. I realized the elephant was running toward us at great speed. I felt as if he was omnipresent–he had been there on the bus right next to me–I had only ignored his presence. We walked back out of the cafeteria into the hall again. He then took me outside the glass doors on the upper floor. There was an elephant in the distance. or maybe a room whose other wall would mark where the bus left us. although I imagine they were more than those two colors. Suddenly. To the left there had been nothing except the longest extension of the wall in which the door we stood in resided. He was also very slim. I didn’t know elephants ran that fast and with that much force (mass X acceleration.
Again. I was immediately scared.elephant had been running right at the wall to our right from this great open field on the left. I would have no clue to my way around. I felt as if I was so new to this prehistoric school of some sort. The depth of the ditch was just enough to save us both and their shots went right over our heads. I had a friend who was showing me the way around. Thank god for that I thought. The kid who stood next to me explained that it was how they pumped water through the school. I had thought the school had better ways of pumping water than making an elephant run back and forth. I imagine the shine was because the bulge was wet. On the other side of the wall were a large grass field and a plateau-topped hill. they would soon come close enough to shoot into it. That is exactly what happened. Apparently. the way out was through the darkness that had looked like a black wall. We walked in the ditch along the hill. Indeed. we walked back down the stairs. We stood in sort of a ditch between the hill and the grass field. I was curious enough or he had enough control over my mind that I went out with him. Now they were able to Let Your Mind See Aditya Mittal 116 . Yet. The elephant ran into this shiny dark black rubbery bulge. We quickly advanced our way to behind a tree in the field right next to the ditch. but more astonished about why he would say that. the upper floor of the school had been built the way it was due to the hill. Otherwise. and there they were. Then he suggested that we go outside through the lobby. Anyway. If we had stayed in the ditch. On this wall at which the elephant ran was a huge rubbery bulge in the middle. They attacked us with slingshots at great speeds–they could kill instantly I imagine. Immediately it was obvious that the elephant would squeeze it hard into the wall running into it head first.
“My turn to get behind the tree. He was behind the tree enough to not get hit. while I kept bending back and forth just enough to dodge them.
